    I remember 1/2 of our block lost electricity for the week. Sadly, I was part of that 1/2. Very disappointing to live like a Neanderthal while watching the neighbors across the street watch tv at night.

      i get it’s a metaphor but saying you’re living like a neanderthal can carry a “down on yourself” type of ignorance to a lot of other situations you may get into in new york. be lucky to be a human 😤

      Although I'm originally from Philly during the time of Hurricane Sandy we were living in Tampa Florida and it seemed weird that instead of us worrying about a hurricane it was people back home up north who had to worry ... it seemed really strange ... and then seeing the aftermath in the news was just so unreal .

    I live in Nassau County and I did not have power for 11 days after Sandy. The LIRR had limited service. The biggest problem out here was the unavailability of gasoline. It was like wartime conditions. Even 5 years later its a grim memory.

    I will never understand how Sandy made it up the East Coast when it was so cold, even the ocean water was cold, we were going into winter, it was freezing out, so how did Sandy not fall apart before it got to NY? Nothing about Sandy made any sense, ask anybody who lives on the coastline, it was way too cold, as soon as Sandy came up the coast it should have fell apart, it's like Sandy was pushed up the coast and on to land. I never saw anything like it, and I have been through a lot of hurricanes in my life. I always thought Sandy was a man-made storm, it wasn't natural, everything about it was weird. I live right across the street from the beach in Rockaway Queens NY, and when I tell you there was no rain but a light drizzle, and no wind, Everybody was outside when the ocean water started to come on land, and it came very slowly, first a light drizzle started which didn't cause people to stay in side, then water started coming on shore very slowly, there were puddles in the street, kids were still playing outside, surfers were still in the water, then as it got dark out that's when the water reached all the streets, but it was still quiet outside, all we saw was water, we didn't see rain or hear wind, plus it was very cold out, it was in the 30's, people were wearing winter coats. The rain did pick up later that night, but it wasn't hurricane winds, it was regular winds. Don't believe everything you see and hear from the media, I'm telling you there were no hurricane force winds, not where I was anyway, and I was right on the beach, I saw the water come over the boardwalk in to the streets, I saw cars floating down the block, then everything went dark, everybody lost power, and the next morning, there was nothing but sand everywhere. I remember the cold, it was freezing out, and we didn't have electric or heat for over a month, I remember trying to sleep, and I couldn't because it was so cold. Then we left and stayed with my sister for a month until the power came back on. I will always question Sandy, it wasn't normal.

      It mixed with a nor’easter

    • @MemeRaider
      @MemeRaider 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Superstorm Storm Sandy started off as an usually low pressure system due to flow from nearby high pressure systems along with atmospheric variability (Low windshear and moist air). Sandy then struck as a powerful Category 3 weakening to a Tropical Storm but due to favoriability from the jet stream, low windshear, and very strong warm core, it was able to retain it's strength and even increase due to the jet stream. Sandy's size allowed for a stronger circulation of waves to increase making stronger storm surge. It turned to the northeast without weakening due to a Bermuda High and transitioning into a powerful low pressure extropical storm fueled by the jet stream while launching it's potential energy. Sandy was never a hurricane at landfall, he was a energized powerful extra tropical cyclone categorized as a superstorm. And Yes, observing Sandy's the wind/rain radar before landfall, his warm core eye collapsed weakening it's overall Winds in MPH. If Sandy had struck with it's full core intact winds would have been overall 96MPH in those areas instead of 76 MPH with rain totals reaching closer to 8 Inches.
