Interesting since you are planting what we used to call 2 in 1 out I would have called these 24 & 12 row planters even though you are only planting 16 & 8. In order for us to plant 2/1 we had to have 2 tractors planting a field with 2 different configurations: first tractor with a setup of xx-x doing a right turn and planting both directions resulting in xx-xx-xx then skip 4 rows for the second tractor planting -xx- so it only had to plant 1 pass out of every 3 to result in xx-xx-xx-xx-. so sometimes we planted 4/2, 4/4, 2/2. this was also dependent upon the way the ASC office calculated the acreage for the cotton and the milo acreage. ASC would penalize you for the vacant acreage. If you planted 100 acres at 2/1 which would realistically be 66.6 acres they might call it 75 acres or if it wa 4/4 it might be calculated as 66.6 acres instead of 50 acres, etc,
Great vid. Hope we start planting soon ourselves, but not sure when we'll start, we farm NW of you actually. One thing I noticed in this video is why put the 8320r on the smaller planter instead of the stack fold out of curiosit (sorry if I missed in a video why you did it this way.)
You didnt miss it. The 8285 is newer and sometimes i get to drive it 🤪 i prefer to drive the newer one. Thats my main reasoning for hooking it on the bigger planter. The 320 has a much better turn radius for the smaller planter. Thanks for watching!!
I am planting DP 1822 & Fiber Max 2498-2398 on the majority of my acres. I have a few seed blocks that are different varieties. Thanks so much for watching!
@@wildwestfarmer I planted some 1822 last year on a pivot that didn’t stress from the drought, it kind of stayed short but it didn’t produce as much as I thought it should have on that pivot, I’ve been planting DP 1820 on pivots and really liked it until last year, it seems to have fizzled out a little , course last year wasn’t a good year to judge any variety on really. I enjoy your videos, good luck this year !
In short, our irrigation pattern is set up every 80 inches so we moved a 40 inch pattern to a 30/50 row pattern by moving each row 5 inches. This allows our rows to be closer to its irrigation source.

What's row spacing .I live in illinois find it fascinating
Thanks for watching! It’s the distance in between the individual rows.
What variety are you planting?

Why do you plant cotton with that row spacing?
