My name is Casey. I’m a 5th generation farmer here in west Texas. I grow multiple crops but cotton is my family’s main cash crop.
I have a passion for farming that started when I was a little boy. I enjoy building/welding, fixing and improving equipment, and diving into new projects as often as I can.
My hope is to educate others on day to day life of west Texas cotton farming. My biggest supporter and fan is my wife Laney, who helps edit my videos.

Casey how many tractors do you have and what are the numbers I grew up in the plainview area
I didn't know Bush Hog made module builders! Bush Hog started in my home town of Selma AL...Looks like they teamed up with Husky to build the module builders. Who knew? We grew "skip-row" cotton from 1971-93 and Bush Hog built us a three point hitch, "skip-row', bush hog. It had 3- 10' bush hogs(rotary mowers) spaced accordingly all connected by pto shaft on a 8 row tool bar. I spent several hours/years running it on an open cab 6030 before we bought 4840's. We would put "skirts' (as we called them) that hooked over and under the engine and sides and had a half plastic wind shield and a small door for access. The heat off the engine kept ya warm on those days that it did get cold in central Alabama. Good times! I enjoy your video's, keep um coming. Where are all the tree's around your fields out there in West Texas? Lol.
Great video can't wait till next Season.
Why do you run strippers instead of pickers? Do you have plans to go to the cotton rollers? I know they are expensive, but you would have at least 7-8 fewer pieces of equipment in the field. I enjoy your videos!!!
Awesome video!
Good to see a fleet of basket machines,7460’s are beasts
A great video. Very well done.
White cotton!!
Thank you for all the videos. I've been watching and enjoy your content and information. Can I find out what kind of Drone you used ? The Drone footage was Awesome 👌. Merry Christmas to You and Family and all your Employees!
Excellent job 👍
Another great video! I love the drone shots! Merry Christmas to your family.
Casey you do a great job explaining how we farm cotton on the south plains of Texas be safe every day you work God bless.
I just found your channel to three months ago. I really like watching cotton harvest. Not something we do in Nebraska or Minnesota. I still would like to know what is the benefits of a cotton stripper versus a cotton picker. I also watch Greig farms in western Tennessee and triple R farms in central Alabama. They both use cotton pickers. I know the difference between the two machines, were the Daugher’s over, but what is the benefits of one over the other? Thank you.
Great video. 🤘
I’d pay someone to come clean my stripper, it only has 3 days worth of dirt and lint on it lol.
Nice to get the equipment clean and ready for next season. Splitting them up for storage is a good idea.
What's the weather likes there?
Really enjoyed the videos Take care God bless you and your family.
I have a question, what row spacing is the cotton behind your logo on the intro?
That field was on 40s when the picture was taken. It was a few years ago prior to switching row pattern and putting in drip irrigation.
@wildwestfarmer ok it kinda looked wider than 40's look like dang good cotton
Will you soon be marketing Wild West Farmer ear plugs? Thanks for another great video!
Stay tuned to find out 😂
Hi there, Casey. Really appreciate all the modern equipment that you have to work with! I lived on farms for 32 years (‘46-‘78) and just worked mostly with tractors without cabs! The sun, dirt, and exhaust fumes takes a toll on your health throughout the years. When you were cleaning the equipment, wish you were wearing a mask to protect your lungs. When I was young, I didn’t use a handkerchief as a mask and it can bother your health later on down the line! Keep Safe & Healthy!!!
Can you add black worker to your cotton farm?
We run the 7460 just south west of Lubbock in the ropesville area
Which gin hauls your modules off?
A topic you can touch on is how you sell or market your cotton. Sell it on the board, store any in warehouses etc,
You do a great job describing the operation and how the machinery works. One of the things I like a lot about your channel. In general are pickers more efficient in regards to how clean they can pick the cotton and remove trash? With the cost of pickers these days I am surprised stippers are not more popular.
It amazes me as to how much lint is left on the stalks, falls out of the stripper/picker in the field when dumped and also beside the modules when the buggies dump into the builder. I remember in the ;'50's.60's planting linted cotton seed -it came in 3 bushel sacks (100#) then changed to more manageable 2 bushel (67#) then in later years the "delinted" 50# sacks. We grew what was referred to as stormproof" cotton - the bolls did not open as wide to help keep the cotton in the boll during rain and wind storms. In Terry County (Meadow).
What replaces that style picker from Deere and can you get the new bailer picker or stripper?
No one bail of cotton is 500 pounds. They're more likely thin bales than they're.
Those things are great, cheap fun!
Great video Casey I’m 73 year old retired farmer. I have enjoyed your videos all fall this year, you seem like a Christen and I pray for you and your family…
Thank you for the support but even more so for the prayers! Merry Christmas and blessings.
Enjoyed the cotton harvest. Has anyone crashed the field bike yet?
Glad you enjoyed. So far it’s just been for chasing my kids and showing off for them 😂
That where the profit is as t the last twenty ft
No actually it was the next 20 feet beyond the end 🤪
Really enjoy your videos. Great job. Just wonder how long have ya been running 50/30 rows. God bless!
Thank you!! We have been running 50/30 for about 6 or 7 years
Glad yall got done safe.
We are too!
Very insightful look into cotton farming for someone who grew up in ranching in New Mexico. How close to Lubbock are you?
Thanks to all y’all for showing us around the cotton fields Casey! 😊
Thank you for watching each one and for your support!
What is the tape buried in the field and what’s its purpose.
For water , irrigation drip tape…
One of those modules is only 500 pounds ?? I noticed a fan on the front of the buggy, what is that for ? thanks.
A bale weighs approximately 500 lbs. Those big square modules you see are approximately 14 bales. (13-15).
Also, there is seed and burrs still in the cotton in the module, which adds a lot of weight. An average module weighs 20,000-25,000 lbs., although I’ve seen them up to 33,000.
A bale does weigh 500 lbs. Our stripper cotton modules average 14-18,000 lbs and only contain 11 1/2 - 12 1/2 bales per module.
You sure miss a lot of cotton when your stripping the cotton from the plants
It’s not as much as what it looks. But these last few fields were tagging (leaving more behind) than usual due to the rain we got.
East Arkansas here the cotton seed here gets pressed into cooking oil
Same here in West Texas
It does here in west Texas as well.
I am thankful that y’all were able to finish! Have a great Christmas, and a blessed new year!
We are too! Merry Christmas!
Great video Casey you really did a great job this year taking us on your farming journey. You really explain things so that folks that aren't familiar where and how we get our jeans and hoodies, and such come from. Keep up the good work and I'll catch you in your next video👍👍.
Thank you that means a lot to me!
How much is cotton worth to you?
It’s been trading for 65-69 cents per pound
I really enjoy your videos. I'm Brittany's uncle from potato country in Colorado.
Really appreciate the support! Thank you for watching.
👍I like 🙏
Really enjoying this channel.
We use to plant Rye for cover crop after cotton in Central Alabama too. Usually turned it under with moldboard plows but that was back in the 80's. We also planted Vetch to rotate cover crops and for erosion purposes.
🌾 Amazing to see how cover crops directly enhance cotton farming. Healthier soil, better yields, and a brighter future for agriculture!
Thank you! It's truly rewarding to see the positive impact cover crops have on our land.
We called those spike points bull tongue points. Another good video. Yall take care.
Thank you for watching!
