Idk why more people aren’t competing with GSD’s… it was so obvious here. The Shepherd owner brought a tank to the fight and everyone else brought fly swatters….
To have a better advantage at herding sheep than the working line does. Show line shepherds are bred for herding sheep much better than the working lines are
No police force is going to use a shepherd that looks like that one. The ones on the American show circuit will not hold up physically to any sort of real work. I wish they would breed them for soundness rather than what they consider looks. That sloped back in the formed hind end is not healthy. It’s actually pretty sad.
You’re right-no police force will use a gsd that has angulation like Mercedes because police don’t use their dogs for the original purpose of the breed. Each GSD has different angulation that corresponds to their job. If they are more angulated, they are more for herding because their gait (and herding style) requires it. The GSD should be able to smoothly and quickly trot (without breaking into a canter) for long periods of time, and their angulation allows that. The croup is angled, and the back should smoothly flow to the croup. No GSD has a ‘straight’ back. They should all have some sort of angulation, whether minimal or not. Mercedes has good and normal OFA hips and shoulders and would most likely hold up well to herding. (I dont mean to come off as rude. I know there are very bad AmSL gsds, but recently they’ve been a lot better)
That is correct gait for GSD, far reaching front, & smooth effortless hindquartwrs, suited to running all day. Th 3 point stack is bc farmers from way back when , noticed that's how stood comfortably overlooking livestock .
Disgusting what they have done to these dogs with messed up back legs. Notice - non of the other breeds have back legs that look like skis. Even more disgusting that it is being rewarded at dog shows.
If you read the breed standard this is how the German Shepherd is supposed to move so that it can serve its purpose as a herding dog. There are plenty of German Sheppards who cannot move. That dog was floating around the ring, and that is what it is supposed to do. If you don’t actually know the breed don’t comment.
@@audreybennett4272 Noticed what seems to be a wonderful correction on their backs also even in the GS line judging up. So nice to see. There was a reason no GS won for years before Rumor. It was and is a thing of beauty to see this stable of GS.
You are very incorrect with your statement! The rear angulation on all GSD's is suppose to be just like this dog. GSD's in movement are suppose to cover the most amount of ground with the least amount of effort and with correct shoulder layback, strong back and rear underdrive angulation they can accomplish this. Read the standard! This dog is a beautiful representative of our breed! For your info, it is now standard practice that all GSD's that are competing/breeding are also getting OFA Certified!
@@marysmith8128 That GSD is beautiful. I was not surprised that she won the herding group, her movement looks completely effortless and she is a good representative of the breed. I can’t wait to watch the groups and Best in Show tonight! I’m rooting for Mercedes. 😊
Listening to American commentary (in many competitive endeavours), so often reading off scripts full of errors, is always worth the entertainment value. None more so than when in a room of people who've seen "Best in Show". "isn't it great to see all the different gaits...?"; yes, it is, and the qualities amongst them pretending they could still function in herding for a full day's work. Exaggerations of the quality of "professional handlers" as they make the same level of errors as owner handlers elsewhere in the world, also quite amusing. In most sports we say the best judge/ref is the one we don't notice; and then pulls out his awarded dogs with no regard to the place markers.
What an impressive win by Mercedes!
Beautiful German Shepherd! Nice gait and movement, short and springy pasterns, etc...
I've had 5 German shepherds, love that breed
getting one soon 🎉

@@justsaying9443 right on, have had 4 in my family over the years and luckily someone found her roaming the streets as a young dog and had to have her
I am from Bermuda
Congrats to super adorable and champion Mercedes. But why GS have the hind legs so short lately???
Over breeding them for shows. This why it shouldn't of won, a working GS are supposed to have straight backs
To have a better advantage at herding sheep than the working line does. Show line shepherds are bred for herding sheep much better than the working lines are
I would like the information on this dog
I thought Mercedes was going to win Best In Show
GSD - the dog lover's dog.
German Shepard should have won. Always the littlest happy dogs win. Rigged.

Fox.. Sports?
What on earth is that gait?!
A gait developed for fence herding sheep all day 🤓

Horrible, can you not see the damage you have done to this once magnificent breed? The slope is absolutely awful.

No other breed is 3p0int stacked, that gives more slope to back. More worry be about th brachy faced , bulldogs, Pekes, Pugs,& frenchies
POST the AFGHAN HOUND BREED judging FOX! Come on, it's been 2 days now. BIS is done.
Meh. I wouldn’t say a great representation of the GSD
😊
The Bearded Collie should of won this. German shepherd's are supposed to have straight backs not sloped
