Near The Cross

Fanny Crosby, who wrote over 8000 hymns and gospel songs, often collaborated with American industrialist, inventor, musician and composer Willam H. Doane. Traditionally a composer would write the music based on the poet or author's words. In this case Ms. Crosby wrote the lyrics in response to how she would be moved by the music.
