the way dijon and mkgee influence each other is out of this world, they move in a space completely of their own and witnessing their progression separately, for the past 6 years or so. But speaking about mkgee on this album he’s really shown his gift to write songs that, despite their crazy and unconventional production style, are as catchy as some of the GREATEST pop songs ever. Are you looking up and Candy are prime examples of that
That is a wild sound you get running through your Tascam Cassette Record. I'm a 71 year old musician and always looking for the next big thing. Brother, you've found it. The sound you get is so unique. I could listen all day.
The melodies and chords are pure pop, but the arrangement and mix are unusual, and the guitar tone is unique. I've certainly heard lo-fi guitar before, but his particular sound is truly his own.
@@oross4001 Just heard that in an interview, and when Mk.Gee talked about this I almost jumped out of my seat and shouted "YES! So that’s what I was feeling, just didn’t know how to put it into words!" Chorus , reverb , octave pedal . Literally only people mesmerized by this are people who never heard a guitar through effects before . Not saying he's not good , just not as mind blowing as the average person thinks it is .
I've listened to this at least 50 times now and I'm convinced its one of the greatest songs I have ever heard. incredible melody and vocal performance along with unique guitar phrasing and tone. just.. wow.. so modern and fresh. .. low key would have topped the charts in '86 regardless of what anyone else put out at the time. I hope for your recognition while also hoping you stay true to your music.
Good for you. Opening melody is just Like "First Cut Is the Deepest" written by Cat Stevens in the 60's and the rest sounds like an 80's song with a sloppy guitar solo random special effects over it. I don't understand what people get worked up over these days....

His guitar playing and effects setup is fantastic, of course, but don't sleep on that uncanny vocal resemblance to a very young Todd Rundgren, nor that hypogogic in-and-out-of-focus singing style a la John Martyn. Sublime stuff.
If you wanna hear someone else do a really interesting, sorta almost "abstract expressionist" vocal/guitar performance like this, where there's a range of dynamics and clarity that could be described as "too much on purpose", listen to John Martyn's '70s material. "Bless The Weather", "May You Never", the extra weird and creepy "Solid Air"...lotsa great songs. FWIW, "Head And Heart" is also like what Bon Iver would sound like to me if I could....you know, actually get into it. That's just me.
I hadn’t even made the Todd comparison! I just thought it was reminiscent. Todd really had something going for him with Hello It’s Me, some voices represent generations

He has similar tone on his guitar - that's what makes him remind people of Prince. Actually I think his playing reminds me of Richard Thompson. There's a huge folkie style of playing that sounds really good to me.
