This gasket provides the oil seal between the valve cover and the head. It requires periodic replacement as part of regular maintenance. The replacement interval is usually between 25,000-50,000 miles or as needed. Check the valve cover for leaks whenever you change the oil. This video shows how to remove the valve cover to access the gasket and some tips on replacing it.
