Little discussed Gilles Berthoud Aubisque saddle is about the most comfortable saddle I’ve owned.

Brooks B17 softened, all the way; I was shocked at how comfy it was out of the box, and it still is.

I love the sa with cut out, i have the heavier model and i am just under 200lbs range. Never had a pinch problem, in the beginning there was a little bit of thigh rub noticeable with my chunky legs and all.
Tuning the bolt is important for these, just like tire pressure, just less often.
    Saddle nose slightly up.

depends on the bike I am riding. For the back of the Hubbuhubbuh a Brooks Flyer S is a necessity....the captain doesn't always warn his stoker that there is a bump coming up so the sprung saddle is a marriage saver. I do have some Brooks Cambium saddles (mostly the winter commuter). I keep coming back to the Brooks B17S. I see a pattern here.......😉 I considered the SA brand, but never got around to buying one.

As often, Chris, your videos are frequently topical to what I'm going through.
I'm amid a saddle conundrum. I used to be really into road cycling with a more aggressive fit: no butt pain on a stock Bontrager saddle. I took many years off from cycling, and now I have a much more upright fit on my Bridge Club - but butt pain has become intolerable on longer rides. The BC's stock WTB saddle didn't work for me. I'm not liking my choice in replacement - a Brooks C17 carved - too much, either.
Recently I finally got my first "real" mountain bike, with a more aggressive fit than the Bridge Club. I have had little to no rear-end pain on those rides using the stock saddle (which is very similar to the BC's WTB). So I'm thinking my saddle displeasure is related to my more-upright posture. When going upright, maybe there is actually is a use for those big-butt gel-infused seats after all, because, quite frankly, it's way more comfortable.

Everyone is different, but I would guess a really squishy saddle will present different issues on longer rides. Let’s hope not.

@@ThePsychicDerailleur True. I'm going to continue to play around with my current saddles' positioning and overall bike fit before I go with that nuclear option.

I am that person far away from any bike shop that has anything resembling a saddle loaner program. So I have a B17, a Rivet, a couple of SA, and a Gilles Berthoud. The Sella Anatomicas both seem to pinch a bit in the slotted areas no matter how they are adjusted. So I gave one away and have another in a drawer. The Rivet is a good, solid saddle but firmer (even with the slot,) than my B17. The B17 is not carved and is the oldest of the lot, going back to probably 2005 or so. It has been the main saddle in the group, the one I always go back to until I got the Berthoud. As the Berthoud breaks in it becomes more and more invisible. Time will tell. But saddles are so extremely personal and subjective!

i have a brooks b17 with the cooper rivets on my surly lht, its working fine. i had problems with numbness on my wiener, so i got a sqlab 702 sattle and that solved the problem. i highly recommend sqlab. in order to getting the correct saddle width you need your sitting bone measurements. just ran into your channel, me like. greetings from germany.

I’ve been an SA customer for 7 years. I do like the Cambiums but nothing beats the SA for me. I broke two of them however. The older version had easily damaged rails, which they have improved. Probably shouldn’t have been jumping curbs on that. Then I broke the adjuster at the nose on another saddle. Fixed easily with a replacement part. The only other issue I’ve had is at time that slot will pinch my taint area. 😂 I usually ride with a waterproof cover and must remember to keep the saddle tight and I’m good to go.

I’ve been wondering when that word would show up in the comments. Figured it would be pointed at me. So that was a nice surprise. 😆

Love the Brooks b17 always use it on my touring bike
Really struggling on the brompton I have tried 4 different saddles
Bromptons own totally a device for torture
The Brooks b17 just didn't work for me it felt really hard and unforgiving it's one I have done thousands of miles on
    A sella itala didn't work
I am now on a ergon which I would say is the best so far but still not great
I think bike geometry plays a huge part as well
I love the brompton but I would say after about 2 hours of cycling it becomes very uncomfortable for me I don't think I will find a ideal saddle for it
    Thanks great video keep safe

A thing to keep in mind; the higher the bars, the wider the saddle will likely need to be- and vice versa.

I wish I could live with something other than a B17 or Brooks Team. They’re heavy and expensive. But they are the only saddles I have tried that work for me. Heck; the Cambium feels like the Spanish Inquisition to me. So I buy Proofide in the industrial gallon drum. But maybe I’ll try Selle Anatomica.

You can overdo the Proofide. You probably know that, but I feel like it’s my duty to say it.

@@Hhieronim C17 All Weather (cambium) on my Bridge Club. B17 on my LHT/Clydesdale. I’ve warmed to the Cambium over the last couple of years. Not as comfortable (to me) as the leather, but willing to make the trade off for the weather protection. Hope that helps!

Notice that Gilles Berthoud has been getting quite a lot of publicity recently. Brooks B17 and the likes need time to get used to if it’s your first but comfortable once broken in. Selle Anatomica is great out of the box but the sides flare up and could be annoying for some. Selle SMP is ugly like a duck but imo is the most comfortable saddle I’ve tried. SMP also might have some rubbing on the nose as they are just slightly wider. Fabric Scoop probably has the best value for what you get. Lesser known would be the Rido LT which are very comfortable too. Btw love your videos do continue making them!
