I haven't heard this song in over 50 years! This brings back memories . . . . One thing I'd always wondered is how well Snoopy would have done in areal combat against Muttley from the old Hanna-Barbera cartoon, "Dastardly and Muttley in their Flying Machines." Now, THAT would have been a "real dogfight" . . . .

That is a real debate going on with who really killed the Red Baron. The Australian machine gunner that was shooting at him or the Pilot that was shooting at him and was giving credit for the kill. The Red Baron’s final flight took place on April 21, 1918, when pilots from his Flying Circus engaged a group of British planes over Vaux-sur-Somme, France. As Richthofen swooped low in pursuit of an enemy fighter, he came under attack from Australian machine gunners on the ground and a plane piloted by Canadian ace Arthur Roy Brown. During the exchange of fire, Richthofen was struck in the torso by a bullet and died after crash-landing in a field. Brown got official credit for the victory, but debate continues over whether he or the Australian infantrymen fired the fatal shot. www.history.com/topics/world-war-i/manfred-baron-von-richthofen

Well this is the one 45 that my mom bought for me. I used to listen to it for hours, so thanks for the memories. I could not keep the smile off of my face as I sang with The Royal Guardsman. Don't mind me if I revisit every once in a while.
Me too! Between my sister and I we played this record into the ground even before cassettes. What a blast from the past. Makes me feel 5 yrs old hummed it all day.
This song is on the movie Once Upon A Time in Hollywood. Leonardo sings it while relaxing in his pool just before a Manson family member crashes thru his sliding glass door and falls into the pool. Leo runs to get his flame thrower when the crazed nut starts shooting wildly into the air. That whole 15 minute scene towards the end of the movie was awesome! 😄
Still one of my favorite songs, has been since i was a kid, even more so since i found out that it was a true story (according to one take of the end of the Red Baron.)

Lyrics
After the turn of the century
In the clear blue skies over Germany
Came a roar and a thunder men had never heard
Like the screamin' sound of a big war bird
Up in the sky, a man in a plane
Baron von Richthofen was his name
Eighty men tried, and eighty men died
Now, they're buried together on the countryside
Ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty or more
The Bloody Red Baron was rollin' up the score
Eighty men died tryin' to end that spree
Of the Bloody Red Baron of Germany
In the nick of time, a hero arose
A funny-lookin' dog with a big black nose
He flew into the sky to seek revenge
But the Baron shot him down (Curses, foiled again!)
Ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty or more
The Bloody Red Baron was rollin' up the score
Eighty men died tryin' to end that spree
Of the Bloody Red Baron of Germany
Now, Snoopy had swore that he'd get that man
So he asked the Great Pumpkin for a new battle plan
He challenged the German to a real dogfight
While the Baron was laughin', he got him in his sight
That Bloody Red Baron was in a fix
He tried everything, but he'd run out of tricks
Snoopy fired once, and he fired twice
And that Bloody Red Baron went spinnin' out of sight
Ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty or more
The Bloody Red Baron was rollin' up the score
Eighty men died tryin' to end that spree
Of the Bloody Red Baron of Germany
Ten, twenty, thirty, forty, fifty or more
The Bloody Red Baron was rollin' up the score
Eighty men died tryin' to end that spree
Of the Bloody Red Baron of Germany (last chorus repeated in fade til end of song)

+Susan Gibbs I wish my dog was that brave ! ha,ha
I grew up with this song every Christmas. My biological father was a pilot for the Air Force.
I used to listen to this all the time when I was 6 or 7. I've heard it maybe twice since then. I came across this link and still was able to sing along with it perfectly on the first try!
I was like six years old back in 1976, and for Christmas I got one of those really cheap record players with the monotone speaker that was fit only to play '45s. Well this is the one 45 that my mom bought for me. I used to listen to it for hours, so thanks for the memories.
I could not keep the smile off of my face as I sang with The Royal Guardsman. Don't mind me if I revisit every once in a while.
CANT THINK OF MY LIFE WITHOUT THESE TUNES
Same here. :)
yep
Snoopy has the heart of a hero and lives on thanks to the royal guardsman
thanks for posting

Brings back memories of watching Snoopy. on t.v. when I was a. child.
I love this song! we used to have it on record and I listened to it over and over and over again.
My older brother had this album. Knew all these songs by heart. Good memories.
When I was a boy and this song was on the radio it was a real treat. Life was so simple then. DJ's ruled the world. Now they are just DJ's
Childhood favorite. LOVE THIS
Still have my original 45. The vocals on this are epic, it's odd this group didn't have more commercial success. However, this is immortal.
One of my favorite songs as a child
My 13 year old grandson Fisher and I sang this song as we drove to my house from his. He loves it!
yaay
I love this tune as much as when I first played it endlessly over 50 years ago. The cadence is awesome
Cool song ,man , I love Charlie Brown and the peanuts, especially that cute dog ,Snoopy!!!😉💖👍
This song was used perfectly in the movie. A great happy song to listen to when you're spaced out drunk
Leo truly seemed hammered when he had those massive 50's era cans on his ears lol
What movie?

I love the lyrics, and the graphics.
Not the song I was looking for, but the song I needed
Oh, my! We refused to vote for any other song to be played over the sound system at the beginning of each school day. It drove the principal to near craziness; but, we third graders loved it!
Guten tag! Auf wiedersehen!
