It is the only song of theirs I ever hear on the radio and always at Christmas. The drummer John is my stepfather and this song is often the only proof I have anyone ever remembers them...
My dad bought me the album when I was young. I stll love it but my favorite songs skip :-( I still dig it out and play it from time to time. A decade or more I finally found a CD of my album, however my two favorite songs weren't on it. Balads. I guess Snoopy Is more famous, but they did do other songs which many don't know about.
My mom would play this song a lot during Christmas it's one of my favorites I'm 58 now an still love hearing it lots of memories ! God Bless us all ! Merry Christmas to one and all ! Mom still plays it also she is 83 !
That's cool! 83 actually isn't super shocking when I think about it; Peanuts were HUGE throughout the 1950s and beyond when the first comic strip was run in 1950, so children from that era are theoretically in their mid to late 70s at least today...and that's just the grade school kids I'm talking about. I guess, my point is, time flies! I can't believe it's almost 2023, and it's been over 60 years since these lovable characters were conceived. Be Merry!
I remember when this first came out. No Christmas seems to be complete without reliving the precious memory of listening to this with my childhood friends.
This makes me nostalgic for that traditional, old-timey Christmas celebration; where everyone pauses their normal lives, and gets together just to appreciate and celebrate one another. I like getting presents, but the true gift of Christmas is spending time with people you love
I have pretty severe holiday depression, but listening to this song always gets me into the Christmas Spirit. What a simple, but accessible message it sends. Merry Christmas, my friends!
Merry Christmas my friend... I get sad at this time of year also...I have that sad disorder and I miss my family 🎄 But Snoopy and The Peanuts Family always cheers me up ✌️
@@jonijohnston1688 Bless you, friend, I'm glad the Peanuts Gang can be there for you at least. Hopefully you can find more cheer and hope in this darkest of seasons ❤
My Grandma had this 45 record at her house, when I was a kid in the 70's, and I listened to it over and over, and later I took it home, and I'm pretty sure I still have it! (Been a few years since I looked into my kiddie records, but I do still have many of them!)
the only thing is, that no one believes in the one day we should put down our weapons and say thank you that we are here.there is no trust left so to you Zachary a very Merry Christmas and many ,many more hopefully
My favorite Christmas song as an 11yr old kid having to stay in hospital from Nov.24 1974 - Jan.12 1975 (broken leg due to car accident had me in traction). It was the first time I ever was away from home and I was fiercely homesick.Luckily members of the Salvation Army came to visit the Children's ward of my hospital and gave me a stuffed rabbit that played Brahm's lullaby and sang Christmas carols outside my window.I have never forgotten them since then. God bless everyone and thank you for the memories.
My dad told me when he was stationed in Germany that he'd always go to the Salvation Army for coffee and donuts because the Red Cross always charged the service men.
I got this album back in the late 60s and it brings back so many happy memories. Much later when I had a radio show, on the Friday before Christmas, I played the whole second side. I love this song and every time I hear it on radio, I get something in my eye.
The first time I heard this song I fell in love with it & that's been over 55 yrs. ago and I still love it. Reminds me of happier times & spending time with family, white Christmas 🎄, deep snows, simpler times. How I miss those times and wish I could actually travel back to those Christmases.
A buddy of mine had Snoopy vs The Red Baron and we had to listen to it every time we were together, then go out in the yard and have "dogfights". Good times, good memories.
I listened to this song as a little girl. It brings back memories of my best friend and I acting out the parts as we sang it over and over again. Also fun fact; it has a historical story behind the song.
This song brings back special memories. ❤🎄🎅 Since we heard it in the late 60's, it was a much different time growing up, compared to today's world. Our brother especially liked listening to this classic song. Back in the day it was on a 45 record. We played it often and happily sang along. It will be 7 years that he passed away. Hearing this song, I will always think of him and all the good times we shared. He is terribly missed.😢💙🙏🕊
I have always believed this song either purposely or inadvertently references the 1914 Christmas truce during the first year of WWI. a event in which British and German troops for a short while laid down there arms and celebrated the holiday. this was short lived and not to be repeated.
I love this song I Wish was played on the radio more often and I love the comment about the soldiers celebrating Christmas together I wish it would be peace like that everyday I think that would be a little preview of when Jesus returns Merry Christmas to everyone from Paul Smith
I loved this song when it came out. I must have worn out the grooves in my LP by my incessant replays. Later, I learned that this song is loosely based on a true incident, as WWI soldiers from opposing regiments at the front line agreed to a brief truce to enjoy Christmas together. This incident is the basis for the movie, "Joyeux Noel".
I can't thank you enough for this! I still remember the first day this played on the radio. Mom loved it. My little sister had everything Snoopy and the whole Peanuts gang. Untold number of books, records, and even a director's chair. Her love for Snoopy continued all her life. Each birthday or holiday brought a new mug or T-shirt and Snoopy cards, most of which she kept. She really did look like "Sally", Charlie Brown's sister with the blond "naturally curly hair". So...when she passed away last June at 62, I wasn't in the least surprised to find many of those same books. Really miss her!
I remember this from my late teens. Great then and great now. I'm from Australasia and this played every Christmas along Auld Langsyne by Dan Fogelberg. Found this randomly. Thank you so much for posting it.😁
Woke up this morning with the chorus of this song in my head "Christmas bells, oh Christmas bells...la la la la laaa" but couldn't remember the rest of it. Searched TH-cam and saw this and thought "nah, it can't be this song" but, sure enough, it was! My parents used to play this alot at Christmas and my 2 brothers would sing along and act silly -- which is why this song surprised me because my parents were of the "children should be seen and not heard" generation.
Its never xmas until I hear this song. I always stop to listen to it and it always makes me tear up thinking of all those young men who didn't make it back home during those years so we can enjoy our friendships & freedoms today

I had a model of the Sopwith Camel and one of the Fokker D7 Triplane when I was around 7 years old. One Christmas, I played this song over and over (I think I had the 45) while holding the models and doing circles in the living room!
It reminds me of when The family would get together at grandparents house and all sing Christmas songs as my Grandma played the piano ( I can't sing so I was not as loud as the rest of the family ) but still Enjoyed it & remember the times from 10 - 14 YEARS Old 😊😊😊😊,. Yes, Snoopy ( who is potrtrayed by my Uncle, Aurthur Roy Brown) actually flew a Sopwith Camel, a fighter plane that was open, and freezing cold, my Uncle Roy admitted. He shot down the Red Baron Julia Trefry ( nee Brown)
This song makes me think of the Christmas Truce and I start to tear up. A beautiful moment during a terrible time. It also reminds me of Roy Brown's comments on seeing the "Red Baron's" body. Another cause of tears.

I'm sure I know where you can find it if you're interested ? A friend has a record store and sells 45's, albums all new condition, 8 track tapes, cassettes, old artists like Jimmy hendrix, etc. If he doesn't have it I'm sure he can find it. Just let me know
Yes it is! And I have it on a "Royal Guardsmen" compilation CD. There are two albums that I own, and across them, I have the entire sequence of Snoopy Vs Red Baron songs. "Snoopy Vs The Red Baron" "Return of The Red Baron" "Snoopy's Christmas" (this song) and "Snoopy For President" but there's a lot more to The Royal Guardsmen than just the Snoopy recordings. Among my personal favourites are, "Mother, Where's Your Daughter" "Biplane Evermore" and "In My Airplane". Every bit as good as the Monkees, these guys didn't seem to get the breaks that might have brought them to fame - They were very good, I loved them when I was just a child, and still do.
My favorite Christmas song😊😊. Growing up my neighbor Lawrence Guyer was a ww1 fighter pilot. And a shopwith Camel propeller above his fire place. . His favorite fighter was the spad.brings back memories from listening to him.he is the reason i became a pilot. . I owned a cessna for years.
But they ARE remembered! And remembered for the joy this song brought and continues to bring! A wonderful legacy.❤

Funny to think that the song is as old as WWI was when it first came out....I know, I was there in `67...Time and the passing parade. Sigh...
Actually, Kharkovid was right. This came out in 1967. "Snoopy Vs. The Red Baron" came out in 1966. This was performed and released a year later.

Man and machine and nothing there in between
A flying circus and a man from Prussia
The sky and a plane, this man commands his domain
The western front and all the way to Russia
Death from above, you're under fire
Stained red as blood, he's roaming higher
Born a soldier from the horseback to the skies
That's where the legend will arise
And he's flying
Higher, the king of the sky
He's flying too fast and he's flying to high
Higher, an eye for an eye
The legend will never die
First to the scene he is a lethal machine
It's bloody April and the tide is turning
Fire at will it is the thrill of the kill
Four in a day shot down with engines burning
Embrace the fame, red squadron leader
Call out his name, Rote Kampffieger
In the game to win, a gambler rolls the dice
Eighty allies paid the price
And he's flying
Higher, the king of the sky
He's flying too fast and he's flying to high
Higher, an eye for an eye
The legend will never die
Higher
Higher, the king of the sky
He's flying too fast and he's flying to high
Higher, an eye for an eye
The legend will never die
Higher
Born a soldier from the horseback to the skies
And the legend never dies
And he's flying
And he's flying
And he's flying
Higher
Higher, the king of the sky
He's flying too fast and he's flying too high
Higher, an eye for an eye
The legend will never die
Higher
Higher, the king of the sky
He's flying too fast and he's flying too high
Higher, an eye for an eye
The legend will never die
Funny enough, it's that song that always leads me to this one. 🙂

For the crew at WJW TV Fox 8 (Cleveland, OH) -- Christmas past and present (2021). Remembering Hoolihan (Bob Wells) and Big Chuck (Chuck Schodowski). Thanks for the laughs and the memories, Bob, Chuck and pals! God keep all of you!
Had this album on vinyl as a kid... had not heard this song in at least 30 years... wish I still had it. Wonder if it is on CD...
It's on TH-cam
@@Bugf1 I'm old. I still like having a cd in my hand...
@@rfclef I'm old too my 45's are gone and my analog turn table will not play But I have a computer and connection Take care man.
My favorite!!! ALWAYS makes me smile! ❤
The Royal Guardsmen did a wonderful rendition of "The Man who Shot Liberty valance." It is the best version of the song I have heard anybody perform.
Love it, always will!! I'm 58 and remember this very well!!🌲🌲🌲❤
