    My Fertilization routine for 80L planted tank based on Seachem Flourish range:
    .: Week 1 :.
    Monday: 5ml K
    Wednesday: 2ml Fe + 5ml K
    Friday: 5ml K
    Saturday: Partial water change 20-50%
    .: Week 2 :.
    Monday: 5ml K
    Wednesday: 2ml NO3 + 3ml PO4
    Friday: 5ml K
    Saturday: Partial water change 20-50%
    .: When I'm out :.
    Monday: Flourish 2ml
    Wednesday: Flourish advance 5ml
    Friday: 5ml K
    Saturday: Partial water NONE
    Since the dosing pumps are of 1ml, I adjusted the dose of each product according to my needs and plant's mass.

    • @jordangeller5257
      @jordangeller5257 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      On Week 2 you only dose NO3 and PO4 once? That puts for N 0.4(1.7ppm NO3 equivalent) and PO4(0.16ppm) dosing well below the targets you posted above as it biweekly. @Filipe Oliveira?

    • @jordangeller5257
      @jordangeller5257 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @FIlipe Oliveira is what you posted correct? You only dose Macros on Wednesday in Week 2 every two weeks. Just one day every two weeks and only 2ml NO3 for 80 litres? That would make your N dosing 0.2ppm/week which is much lower than the Seachem reccomendations.

      I’m thinking too about what kind of water are you using. Because this factor changes the concentration of micros and also of nitrate, so the dosing will not be the same.

    • @FAAOAquascaping
      @FAAOAquascaping  5 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      Yes, it's correct! This is what I dose. I don't follow EI levels, I just want to be sure I provide some macros to let the plants take everything fast and grow a bit, then they will stay longer under the light to achieve nice colouration.
      I use tap water, so no need to use buffers and Trace elements. If you use RO water, be sure you add them after water changes.

    • @FAAOAquascaping
      @FAAOAquascaping  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I use tap water on my water changes when I'm home, if I'm out, I change a bit my fertilization routine to provide the nutrients replenish on my water changes, but that is explained in the video and in the post above.

      Os workshops nunca são iguais e dependendo da audiência, o conteúdo muda. Estar a ser demasiado técnico quando a maioria é iniciante não faz qualquer sentido.
      Este vídeo podia ser mais técnico? Podia, mas seria o mesmo que fazer uma revisão ao EI, para isso não preciso de o fazer já existem bastantes. As pessoas têm de meter na cabeça que quanto mais fácil, maior é a margem de sucesso.

I really learn a lot when experts discuss their thought process during their demonstrations, just as you did in your last video about tank maintenance. It's a real pleasure learning from top professionals. Thank you for your videos!

      It's not easy to do a video like that. My previous video I had to neglect my tank for a few weeks to have something to show. Can you imagine, you had to almost destroy your tank to show it and recover it, otherwise people would not believe on you. And even showing, some will say that is impossible!
      But I will keep that in mind and see what can be done. Thanks

    Many thanks Filipe for the details.. like to know little more bout ADA fertilizer as well.. will minimum dosing work for them as well like seachem , if possible also share some easy tricks to fight against algae ..it will be very helpful.. simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.. very much inspired by seeing, how you drive this tank with a small hangon filter, little dosing and a Twinstar sp light.. plants are supper healthy and colorful.👍👌🙏

    • @FAAOAquascaping
      @FAAOAquascaping  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No idea about ADA fertilization, I'm sorry. This can sounds weird to you, but I never used it before. I believe would be similar because manufacturers usually don't make their fertilisers too concentrated to be easier to dose in all tank sizes, unless they have two range of products like Seachem has Flourish vs Aquavitro.
      Everyone likes high concentration fertilisers but they are very difficult to handle, if you overdose a bit can be a nightmare to solve it... Unless you have a big tank.

Blended ones are the solution not only for beginners but also for people that doesn't want to be measuring values all the time.

  • @unwired
    @unwired 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The best way to know if you are over dosing or just have leaner dose is to have plant indicators.
    The best plant to use is the Hygrophilila Pinnafitida. It is sensitive to the amount of minerals in the tank, if it has holes you are low on Potassium, if it is growing as a red plant your Nitrate is at minimum (on highlight setup).

  • @simonetovo7778
    @simonetovo7778 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Filipe, thank you for the video it's super informative! I just have a doubt about the concentration of Potassium. You said you aim to dose 20 ppm per week of K, but by adding 15ml per week of Flourish Potassium you would dose only 9 ppm. Where do the others come from? Am I missing something? Thank you again, looking forward to your new videos!

    • @FAAOAquascaping
      @FAAOAquascaping  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Simone, 5ml is for 125L to raise 2mgl or 2ppm; this tank has 80L but empty, not full of water. This has probably 50L or even less, so you end up by giving between 15-18ppm of Potassium, plus the Potassium available on Nitrogen, Phosphorus, Flourish and Advance.

    • @FAAOAquascaping
      @FAAOAquascaping  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's normal they fight about nutrients because they have different growing speed. Providing root tabs and even if you dose very lean, plants will have always something to absorb.

    • @FAAOAquascaping
      @FAAOAquascaping  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Best way to get rid of nitrogen added improperly in the water is doing partial water changes, if you do it slowly, you can do 50%+50%.

      Chris, the quantity of CO2 depends of the volume of your tank and light intensity.
      Sometimes lot of CO2 is not good, because will increase plant's photosynthesis and you must dose more liquid fertilization to keep them healthy. Think on CO2 as a gear box of a car, you need to find the best gear to drive safe (balanced) and your plants and livestock will appreciate it.

    Good day Sir and thank you for sharing your knowledge with us.
    Your work has inspired me, and I recently purchased the Seachem Flourish products recommended by you.
    Before I start dosing my tanks, there is a few questions for clarity please.
    Your guidelines on dosing:
    Week 1: Potassium @ Mon, Wed & Thu (3 days). Iron once a week, skip 2nd week if plants are healthy.
    Week 2: Potassium @ Mon & Thu. Iron once a week (optional). Nitrogen & Phosphorus @ Fri.
    Question 1. On which day of the week will it be best to dose Iron, maybe Tue after Monday’s Potassium?
    Question 2. I use inert gravel with under-gravel filter on powerhead, no root tabs, what is the recommended dose of Flourish (liquid) and on which day(s) of the week?
    Question 3. Can Flourish Excel be used instead of a CO2 system, if so, what is the recommended dose of Flourish Excel and on which day(s) of the week?

    • @FAAOAquascaping
      @FAAOAquascaping  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks! Regarding your questions:
      1. Iron must be dosed 2 days after water change. Potassium I dose it one the day after.
      2. If you use Flourish, you don't need to use Iron. Iron is already included on Flourish.
      If you will use Flourish, dose it as recommended dose one day after water changes, then use Potassium (only on the next two times a week).
      3. No. Excel doesn't replace the CO2. You can dose it once or twice a week if you want and only during the photoperiod.

    Question: Will type of water hard or soft have an effect on this type of lean fertilization?

    • @FAAOAquascaping
      @FAAOAquascaping  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks!
      Usually soft water demands more liquid fertilization because plants will grow a bit faster than in hard water.
      Personally I like more to use hard water (gh 10-15 and kh 8-10) but in both situations the routine will be more or less the same.

I started with recomendet dosage and some of my Red cherry shrimps died, after that I reduced it to half and shrimps are doing just fine.

      I don't use it so often or at least in my weekly fertilization routine. I use excel or similar products to fight some unbalance or algae issues time to time, mostly when I'm out and I can't control my tanks daily.
      I don't see any problem in using it daily, most of people says that helps to control and prevent algae.

      Exactly, no patience!!! Sometimes they are on the right track but don't wait time enough to see if the results are better.
      People freak out when they get a few algae, then they keep changing their routines when most of the situations it's nothing related to fertilization but just poor circulation that doesn't let CO2 reaches same spots as before.

    • @FAAOAquascaping
      @FAAOAquascaping  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It's not about size of tank but about volume of plant mass. You can dose more in 60L than in a 400L tank. It all depend on the plants you have, if you use CO2, kind of plants (fast or slow growth), light...
      What I suggest is to start to use just half of the recommended dose twice a week, then you can increase depending how your plants react. No need to overdose fertilization if you are going to remove most of it during partial water changes.

I'm now having success with Alxyon (only macro n+p+k) and using DRAK for micros. Is It dangerous or has some counter indication using two brand to fertilize? I mean i think using just one brand will be more balanced in terms of chemical elements (i supposed) but at the moment as i said i'm having success mixing them. What's your opinion? Thanks !
