I was a Camera man for the show, and I remember when Rickles came up to the camera at 47:43 and just made one of the biggest jokes that I will never forget. I had the rare honor of being called up onstage by Mr. Rickles to join in an impromptu skit he did at Harrah's Reno casino, way back in the early 70's. Myself and one other poor victim. It was a skit about cowboys and indians. It COULD have been about space aliens and auto mechanics and the end result would have been the same....utter, uncontrolled madness. I loved every second of it.
Don Rickles God bless his soul and may He rest in peace, but he had such momentum and totally ignored political correctness until the end. And that's what we need that's what comedy should be and nobody harassed ham or questioned his humor. I never had the luxury of ever meeting or corresponding with the man, but everyone who knew him personally said he was the loveliest human being and I think his humor showed that. There are so few individuals like that to just don't care but do!

He was tremendously funny. Nothing and no one was safe, exactly the way comedy is supposed to be. His talent will never be matched. Many great Jewish comedians from his time, each with their own unique style. Don on the Dean Martin Man of the Hour Roasts were the best. He could make you choke from laughing too hard. Agreed to a certain extent. Don was trained at the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. He actually had some good parts in some films and his acting chops were not bad in dramas. Problem is there was just no vehicle to capture his style of comedy. It was not even his so called 'improv' as he used 90% (in his words) of his intended act every night, but his timing was impeccable. Watch his clips on Carson and other shows, he uses the same lines many times. He used 'my wife is a valium' for over 40 years, yet he got laughs nearly every time.

Many times he would laugh and get a real kick out of things he said. Even he didn't know for sure what he would say during portions of his performance.
