After this interview, I'm left with this impression: Don Rickles is phenomenally funny; that's self evident. But, beyond that, he seems to be a fine and genuine person.
I’ve seen mr rickles a few time My all time favorite. My only regret is that I was never close enough for him to insult me and my wife. Such a great person. RIP dear man.
My Father passed away, I was in tears. That night, Don Rickles actually spoke about death of a friend. He stated I will miss my best friend forever. Don with fake crying saying he owed me so much money too! I met Don told him about my Dad passing and his jokes made me feel better. He asked, I am very sad to hear this. By the way! Did he owe you money too? I laughed! He will truly be missed in the world.
Im 57 and an only child with no family now and I can remember watching Don far back as I can remember, even on the old Andy Griffith show in the early 60's. When one of the old guard like this goes I swear I feel emotional like ive lost a dear friend or family member. So many memories of him on the Dean Martin Roasts, numerous appearances on so many shows, and on Johnny Carson including the famous time he subbed for Johnny one night and broke his cherished cigarette box-lol Carson came back the next nite, asked if Rickles had done it and acting mad took the whole Camera crew, completely left his own studio and walked in on filming of Dons show 'CPO Sharkey" and started in on him - Don dropped to his knees at Johhnys feet calling Carson Mr. NBC begging him for mercy-LOL I swear I teared up when I heard about Dons passing, so many laughs for so many decades and such a genuinely nice guy in real life. He was part of my lifetime TV family so to speak and I deeply mourn his passing, one less icon among us - God Bless you Don Rickles, RIP.
This was cool... A very rare chance to hear Rickles actually speak and not cracking jokes the entire time. Usually you couldn't get two serious sentences out of the man because he was always on. He did everything he wanted to do, always did things his own way no matter what anyone else said, and had one hell of a life by the time he died at 90. Many of us will only have a small fraction of the type of experiences this man had. Lucky guy. And funny as hell.
Wow! Just think, ''They'' took Charlie away from us. I love his interviewing style. Always have. Him and Tavis Smiley. Sad......CHARLIE is Awesome! Thank you Mr. Rickles! You are and were A True Gift Of Gut bucket Uncut Laughter! You are Of The Humorous off the Hook ''Unique''.......Indeed
Well said. I always want to hear him tell his story, but he usually drifted over to humor. This was very insightful to a wonderful man that made me laugh my entire life. Comedians from this era will never be replaced.
Im black but i actually loved this guy because of his racist jokes lol its ironic i know but u can blatantly see he done it to say yes we are all different from different backgrounds, lets joke and laugh amongst each other. You could see his intentions were good hes a legend straight up
I totally agree . I'm probably very liberal but when it comes to humor I say anything goes, if it's funny , it's funny. Different groups have different characteristics what's wrong with pointing that out ? Assuming you're not doing it in a mean way. The world will be very boring if we pretend we are all the same , we're not.
He was one in a million. His era had talent. Real real talent. Saw him years back and he was up there in age but sharp as a tac. You can tell he's a beautiful ❤️❤️❤️❤️ human being. Humor is what gets us through this tough journey. He's missed. His entire crew is missed.. Dean Martin Frank Sinatra..Jerry Lewis....Dom DeLouise. It was classic to see him crack up when Foster Brooks came on Dean's Roasts
I saw Don at the Sahara in the Congo room and he got my black record producer up on stage. The door man kept telling us to come back until I said hey we want pretty good seats, and he put us right in front so Don could see John Perry lol. And he sent over a bottle of champagne.
Such a funny man, One of the all time greats Don Rickles. ❤ So glad I grew up being entertained by Don Rickles. Rest in peace Don Rickles. Hope to see you in the after life.
The Best Rose is such a talented Interviewer. His genuine interest and fascination with ones life story is his greatest gift. He draws the viewer in...
Don Rickles was one of a kind. There will never be another like him. I could not imagine his brand of humor being done today, people are just too sensitive and need to get over themselves. Loved him. Charlie Rose, not so much
Rickles was so reflective here. He had a wonderful grace to his soul, diametrically opposed to his performing persona.Very touching, in spite of Charlie Rose.
I thought he did a tremendous job. Do you realize how much ground he covered in this interview? They talked about many, many facets of Don's life. More than any other interview I've found with the exception of maybe Tom Snyder. I'm a HUGE Rickles fan, but let's be honest, when a host let Don go they were lucky to cover two or three questions. Charlie let him answer each question, but kept it moving and didn't let him keep ad-libbing off the same question. From an entertainment perspective his appearances in Carson and Letterman were much better, but as far as candid interviews go this one is near the top.
God Bless Mr. DON RICKLE'S, Thank you for the year's of laughter and wonderful memories of the entire family gathering around the television to watch your appearance on Dean Martin Roast. Rest In Peace
I appreciate the fact, you included the date this was aired in your description. Too many people fail to provide this important detail with the videos they post. The date provides an important context to the overall framework of what is being presented.
Agreed. This is one of my biggest peeves on TH-cam next to converting old footage that was filmed/video taped in 4:3 ration and "wide screening" it to 16:9 and chopping the top and bottom of the video, drives me nuts. I add the year in the title, then go into detail in the description. .::Gary
Thanks for bringing a lot of laughter to a lot of people for a lot of years Mr. Pickles.... (someone once called him pickles and it cracked him up)....
Thank God this was the second comment I saw. I stopped the vid 11 minutes in because I'm almost dumbfounded how a seasoned interviewer could be so oblivious to how much he destroying this interview. It's expected to laugh at Don's answers but Charlie is actually laughing and cutting him off to make his own little in funny quips effectively stopping Don in his tracks.
Thank you for uploading this, i like to watch Charlie Rose, but I never got to see this interview. Great interview, you got to see Don Rickles' the man, without the act, but there was some of the banter he would do on the late talk shows. and the bit of , "put the guns on the Table" was classic. thank you again.
Charlie Rose, sorry to say destroyed this interview. He's like he is coked up or something. Non stop interruptions and talking over Rickles. Every single answer was interrupted. Every single one. He seemed to just want to hear his own voice and not the person he was interviewing. Rickles obviously noticed and I believe gave him a little dig with the line "Like you, you're a great interviewer Charlie, you know when to jump in" :)
+Francebrasil I am British, black & gay. I LOVE Don Rickles, funniest man alive. He should be cloned, either that or frozen so he can come back again & again.

Miketheman926 Have just been invited to the Spectre Premier. How I wish Don Rickles was MY "date"..bf will have do do. He's a "hipster", I'm stuffed!!!!!!!!!
As an atheist, who worships comedy... Don Rickles and Patrice O'neal are my "gods". Never got to meet, or even see either of them live... so I appreciate the anecdotes of them being treated accordingly.
Agreed. Rose sounds like he has had one too many here. He asks interesting questions but then he can't shut-up and listen for Rickle's answer. -Really annoying.
Charlie Rose is a typical libtard, who does not let his guest shine in an interview. He just keeps asking scripted questions, and is too stupid and lazy to pay attention to what his guest is actually saying. If Charlie had a clue, he would feed off of their points., and segue into other questions.
I can listen to Don all night but I couldn’t get thru this with all of Rose’s interruptions. One thing about Don, when he talks people want to keep listening because he has a another funny story or insult coming.
Charming man The story about " calling New York" was chilling. I found it slightly strange that when Don was asked who made him laugh he really took his time, mentioning some heavyweights. I was expecting to hear the name of big hitter Jackie Mason ( who I understand fell foul of Sinatra) but it was as if he wasn't even on Don's radar.
Future journalists should watch this as an example of how NOT to do an interview. Let the person interviewed be center stage, and allow viewers to follow the speaker’s train of thought without constant interruptions.
Everytime i see a video of Don, I can't resist watching it. Rip Don. U are very much missed.
After this interview, I'm left with this impression: Don Rickles is phenomenally funny; that's self evident. But, beyond that, he seems to be a fine and genuine person.

I have no doubt he was a class act on and off stage.

Don Rickles the king of Satire! 😁
The man was always a favorite of mine. 🌹

"I don't tell jokes, I tell Attitude..." More than just a comedian.. We miss you, Don.
It's nice hearing Rickles not doing his act, but just talking. Good interview.
I really miss Don, and I equally miss Charlie Rose interviews
Well said. I always want to hear him tell his story, but he usually drifted over to humor. This was very insightful to a wonderful man that made me laugh my entire life. Comedians from this era will never be replaced.
Charlie Rose makes this unwatchable. What an idiot. Was he drunk?

iv watched all Don Rickles "interviews ". none compares to Charlie Rose. never heard Rickles so calm, better stories
This is the most serious side of the legend Don that I’ve ever watched and he still the funniest! 😂❤

Wow, probably the only time that I have heard Don Rickles give a serious interview. Very interesting and , not surprisingly, very perceptive.
The Best
Rose is such a talented Interviewer.

He draws the viewer in...

*Rickles is totally amazing at passed 80 !* he still "has it" here and makes the interview worthwhile and (at times) hysterically funny.
Past
I wish he hadn't interrupted Don, when he started talking about Dean Martin. I would have liked to hear more about him. Don, as always, was great.
Rose talks way too much when we're trying to hear the gues
Rickles was so reflective here. He had a wonderful grace to his soul, diametrically opposed to his performing persona.Very touching, in spite of Charlie Rose.
The greatest comedian of all time.
I miss Rickles & I knew Frank Sinatra when I was 16-18. He was always kind to me. I miss him too.
One of a kind. Great memories watching him on the Tonight Show w Johnny Carson.
The greatest comedian that this world has ever witnessed.. Simply
Don is a smart intellegent genius and very well spoken
Russell Foisy
you know Don Rickles never graduated from high school?
he was too smart.
John Derf don was to cool for school
im glad he got 10 more years after this. god bless legend
I love his interviews. So smart and funny. He was so sweet, he wouldn't joke with you unless he really liked you.

Wonderful. Delightful!
Bravo e bravi!!
Rickles and Rose connected so well!
Let Don speak for god's sake. Stop cutting and giggling when Don is serious rarely and speaks out of his act.
Charlie is the best interviewer. Sorry about all his troubles. Miss him on tv.
He's a predator.. why feel sorry for him?
Charlie Rose is a wilted old hack. Good riddance.
I regret that I never got to see this master in person..RIP Mr Wartmh one of a kind.
Great interview, great character. Almost ruined by Charlie Rose’s constant interruptions
Yesterday I fell into a Rickles TH-cam wormhole. But I kept this separate, a little treat for today.
Such a good interview. Rarely see Don this genuine.
I first saw him in the movie “ goodfellas” and I had no idea who he was. I’ve come to now realize he was the biggest star in the movie!
