For a young man like you probably yes. You have to get the big power thing out of your system. I did it in my early 30s with a TVR Griffith 500 (and a few others). Ironically, I now have a red NC MX-5 almost identical to yours!

@@AlexRoebuck the way electric cars are going, I think the big power thing is here to stay! The torque on the base teslas is incredible.

I would say that you probably made a mistake from a channel perspective. The MX5 content was great and probably reached out to more people than your Merc content does. I know that I stopped watching immediately that you sold the MX5 and bought the Merc. The other thing is that a lot of people see a C63 Merc as being out of their reach, whereas most anyone could own a MX5 if they so wish. Again, I think you have limited your audience and IMO you would have been better served getting something a bit more attainable. Just my opinion of course and I know a lot of people will disagree. Also, you could have kept the MX5 and bought another car too, so you wouldn't have been stuck to just MX5 content. You could also review other peoples cars, similar to what Jack (Number 27) does.

I personally like MX-5 content as I own an NC2. I enjoy your presentations, and I love my NC2, but at the end of the day, you drive what you love. I am not into Mercs, but i don't hate them . As long as you're happy with your car, that's all that counts.

You do what you want, no point missing out on what you really want to do just to please some randoms on the internet. I found your channel as I was looking at getting an MX5 as a track car (ended up getting a Clio instead). Can't say I'm a big Mercedes fan but that C63 is a beast and I totally get why you love it.

I think this comment hits the nail on the head Mikey. If the M156 engine was in a Renault or a Volvo, I’d buy a Renault or a Volvo. Clio is an awesome track toy, was overtaken by many on track when I have the 5!

Thoroughly enjoyed the content of this vlog. Its refreshing to hear the honesty behind someone treating YT as a business, but also sharing really interesting information. I've watched most of your MX5 posts, as they've helped me make an informed decision before purchasing my own car. I totally get your reasons for upgrading to the C63 and thank you for your time and excellent channel.

Hi Dom, you definitely made the right decision selling the MX5, especially as it was to me! Its pretty much as you left it other than a Cobra Race back box, decatted mid pipe and will be going in for a 2.5 litre engine swap in the winter!

I am pleased that you got the C63 when you have wanted one from been 12 years old. I was gutted when you sold your MX 5 but shortly afterwards I sold mine which was a shock to friends and myself as I have had MX5s since 2006. I had always wanted a classic car and purchased my dream car a Saab 96. It's very different but gets far more attention than the MX5s. I love your videos and your style of presentation I like your sense of humour. The videos are great to watch and I am always looking forwards to the next one. I enjoy the ones where your friends are involved and the different locations. Keep up the good work I for one appreciate your videos and sometimes It's as though I know you.

Definitely regret selling my 350z. Was a extremely clean 04, touring, 6 speed manual. Had lots of custom parts, and I modified it very tastefully. Had headers, high flow cats, bigger injectors and tuned. Loved that car. Wish I would of never sold it, especially now seeing the prices shoot up here in Canada :/.

I’m buying my first MX5 this weekend and a lot of your content on them has helped me in coming to that decision to buy one! The C63 looks like a beast though, I’m the same when it comes to cars and I’ll likely only have the MX5 for a couple years until I fancy something else.

I do understand where your coming from my dream car was Audi RS4 b7 V8 I had it 2 years, loved the car and sound I really did enjoy that car even took car on track, Only problem was you always knew if something goes wrong with this car it's gonna cost me a arm and a leg to fix and it did, I then sold it and bought a MX-5 MK3.5 Which I use as track day/fast road use, I liked it so much I ended up buying another one MK4 launch edition with only 600 miles on clock which I only use as a summer car. Best thing with MX-5's they are very reliable and if they did break, you never have to stress with these car it's never gonna cost you major £££££

I absolutely agree with liking and wanting lots of cars, having owned Land Rovers (including a V8) and a Tesla that you use for examples! The MX-5 is a new love for me, let's see how long it lasts. I intend to take mine on European roadtrips so don't intend to do any track-based mods, I tolerated several hours in a Smart Roadster so the MX-5 should be fine.

I can’t understand how you struggled to go on a weekend break in the MX5! Did you take the kitchen sink?? 😂
My partner and I toured 1500 miles around Scotland for one week in August 2020 and my MX5 didn’t miss a beat!! Boot space was not a problem and we took more than enough clothing for the whole week! It Was one of the best holidays we’ve had!
Sounds to me like you fell out of love with your MX5 or if your only concern was views , that, or you couldn’t come up with fresh ideas to film with the MX5 then that’s not really the MX5’s fault!
I stopped watching your channel the moment you announced you’d sold the MX5 but stayed subscribed in the hope you’d come to you senses and buy another MX5!
I’m not sure what, if any kind of cult following there is surrounding the Merc but what i do know is that there are millions of MX5 owners around the globe just itching for someone to make fantastic content to showcase the cars they all love!! Is that you??? thinking back to some of your MX5 content it was informative, and practical but not very exciting to watch, bog standard production methods. I’m not saying have the production levels of topgear but I hope you get what I mean!!

I personally think you made a mistake but do what makes you happy. Over the years I went from a Clio rs200 to a M2 competiton. I’ve just sold the M2 because it felt boring once the novelty of the power wore off.
I think you need to decide if you want a car for yourself of for your channel content, the c63 has been done to death on TH-cam.

    • @CarThought
      @CarThought  2 ปีที่แล้ว

And I think this highlights how different people are after different things, although I never owned it, the M2 I drove was awesome (non competition) although I did think the interior was a bit tacky for the price! Couldn’t beat the torque though, loved it!

You hit it on the head it is a business for you and many people don't understand the concept I.e. have a business to share your hobbies like dislikes and likes. Part of the growing number of people trying to make money on youtube as a job. getting patreons to help grow the business. Now I have a problem with this Dom I had a business but I never asked people to pay so my business could develop I did it myself sink or swim. For me this is personal if someone wants to share their lifestyle for example the love of cars and someone wants to watch this why should they pay for it and the person wants to spend the time editing a video that's a personal decision but why expect people to pay for that? I love cars I have an MX5 I have owned and built lots of cars but no one helped me. Maybe I'm old but I am a realist how long will youtube last before something else takes over and people move on to that new fad. I went in my local supermarket to see lots of video equipment for sale specifically to make youtube content it's all business and we are the consumers. So if you want to make content an share do it, it is your decision to do that but as for a business expecting us to pay to view em! for me I just move on, now that is your dilemma not mine as a viewer. I loved you videos but did stop watching them because the car you bought did not interest me personally. I only clicked on this video as I had not seen one for a while. As I say I'm old fashioned want a job get a job with longevity how long will youtube last as a career. Sorry I like you as a person but get real. Now will you have the guts to allow this post??????

I enjoyed your MX5 content as well. There’s no right or wrong you made a change but that was always going to lose you a dedicated group of followers. I can also understand the need to keep content fresh and interesting so what comes after the C63 Dom?
I’m 40 now and have done the big car thing and recently craved something simpler and purer to remind me about how much fun driving can be when all the fat is trimmed away. For that I’m very fond of the NC and all the adventures I’ve had in it. It’s really rekindled the love of driving simplicity and fun I’d lost whilst piloting more sophisticated cars up and down the motorways and A roads. Your style is great and I enjoyed your videos although I’m not interested in big shouty German cars I’d love to see you renovate a classic like a Lotus Elan/Elise or such like when you change next.

First off love the noise of the Merc. Loved the MX5 content because the car is a good platform to tinker. It probably depends what you want to do with your channel. If driving cars that make exciting noises is what you want to do then yea the Merc is a good platform for you. However I'm not sure Merc owners will tinker with their car so. If you want to make content fixing stuff then not sure the Merc is the car for that. If you are done with the MX5 and want to move on to something else maybe a Westfield or something like that would be the way to go. Decide what you want to do with the channel and just carry on dude.

Your choice to change. I don't even know what a C63 is. From this video it looks to me like just another old Mercedes. The V8 sounds fantastic but.... That's it. I'd expect it to be a potential money pit as Merc reliability is reputedly awful and they ain't cheap to fix. And the roof doesn't come down. If you love lightweight agile chuckable totally reliable fun cars, with a drop top, there's nothing to beat the MX5, and the ND even looks the part (your model was a bit 'boaty'). So, horses for courses. If you run a youtube channel and need variety, I see why you changed. But 99.999% of us just want the car we want that will always work and ticks our personal boxes. But yes, if yoy have an MX5 in your life you do need a 'practical' car as well. Which is why the wife has a Focus! Me? In may I traded the 2007 100% reliable MX5 I'd owned from new for a brand new model in soul red because after 14 years I fancied a change - and I Iove it!
Edited to add - I've driven an MX 5 since 2004 and I don't recognise your relating of people not letting you out at junctions or dissing the car. Quite the reverse! The MX5 is seen as cute and inoffensive, not a threat to the masculinity of the masculinity-challenged nutter. Not on his radar. I'd think that C63 is it? would be treated like a BMW or Audi as driven by a tw@t and NEVER let out!

Think you've gone the wrong way. The MX5 is a cheap affordable car that people can do stuff to and make it better. You probably need to spend about 20 grand for a C63 and most people are not going to spend that money and start fiddling with the car. I watched your Mazda films and see how you got so popular but now you have moved into a different sector and will potentially lose your existing audience. You said obviously to keep interest up you need to change cars but your niche was affordable and suitable for DIY. I would have gone down a Spitfire, or MG B or Midget route if I were you. Good luck with the C63 you can't beat that sound. I've got a 58 plate MX5 and a Tesla Model 3 performance - probably the fastest car you will see on the road most days. I watch MX5 videos but never watched a Tesla one. Its already a complete car, i cant really add anything to it, but the Mazda is just more fun.

Yeah I like watching you modding the mx5. Switching to the merc is the opposite type of car from the mx5, and seems to alienate your viewer base.
I stayed subbed anyways, because i was curious if the c63 decision would be regetted. (Why your c63 reliabilty issues video got so many view probably).
You cpuld start modding the c63 to make interesting videos like before, but that would be ungodly expensive and complicated.

MX5 is common ground for way more people than the C63 par example. So in youtube terms, an MX5 would be a better tool for more views. Nevertheless, is the final product going public that matters. (i.e. Sretten with ,much pricier than MX5, BMWs work has been rocketed in views.). In car terms, if someone can afford replacing a 10-year old MX5 with any premium GT, it absolutely makes sense. I do own the NC and i really, really like the car for casual and track driving, but i would easily make the transition if my wife didn't think that spending big for another sports car is nonsense and waste of money... So i feel quite happy that i am allowed to even keep my MX5 along with the family estate... LOL.
