    For me, this song brings me out of depression and points me in the direction of Jesus. i'm a very strong Christian, so i don't know if i'm the only one who takes the lyrics in that way.

    David Draiman, (vocalist of Disturbed) used to attend Rabbi school. He’s still a very spiritual person. His music tends to reflect that. His brother, Ben, moved to Israel to get closer to God many years ago and has stayed ever since. Listen to the song I’m Alive. That song used to motivate when I was a depressed teenager.

      OMG !
      There always has to be some "😤Better Than Thou-ist 😤" around correcting people about their knowledge of anything...and everything.
      That kinda thing gets "😴tired😴".
      Generally the point of music is the end result... not why it was originated.
      Please enter adulthood, and if ya can't, then please ..."😯"
      🎆"Thank you" 🎆

    The official music video reminded me of the book of Job. A firefighter suffers severe burns. He endures physical therapy all the while enduring the shocked looks of others. He manages to get his life back together with newfound love and hope. This song helped me through a divorce. I'm glad you listened with an open mind.

    Last year when my mom passed away this song and the sound of silence got me through my grief. I play the sound of silence at my moms funeral. And the light for me was my bf. He was there for me through everything. All the tears, all the anger. He's my light in a time of darkness.

    I am very much not religious. I was raised Christian, attended Christian schools, Studied the bible as well as many other books on various religions. I can most certainly see where this song is not only inspirational to someone living with a tragedy, but to Christians alike. In every one of us there is darkness. Everyone backslides at times in their lives. Whether it be from God or even drug addiction, maybe even a horrible accident. That darkness you find in those situations will often times drive you back toward the greater good you seek, whatever it may be. For me personally this song came out when my wife was living in the hospital. I sent it to her and she did find it inspirational in her fight for her life. Sadly nearly 2 years later. Still living in the hospital she passed. I now use this song in the rebuilding of my life. It still gives me inspiration today to rebuild a new and healthier me. I was given a very short time to live myself for a multitude of reasons. Through hard work and diet most of those are now obsolete. Basically the point of my post. No matter what you believe or what darkness you find yourself in. Grasp onto what inspiration you can to find the light you desire.

      The message of the song is that you have to go through struggles and fight past them to get something good. In the official video for example, a man is disfigured in a fire and afterwards is ashamed of his appearance, but with time he develops a relationship with his rehab nurse.

    I just heard this song for the first time earlier this week and it really spoke to me. I've been through some very hard things and life has seemed impossible so it impacted me in a big way and encouraged me when I heard it and it's cool to see you guys doing a reaction video to it a few days later.
    I definitely interpret the song as meaning that those horrible experiences can be what leads you to strength and healing, a happiness and appreciation for life that never would have been possible before.

    BigKat TV, before doing this reaction, did you read the story on this song? Plus, Disturbed did a video showing band playing in front of a burning building while having mini movie showing man been disfigured from an accident feeling distraught of being disfigured. During his rehab from his injures, man finds love with his nurse. I think man went thru traumatic accident (darkness) and (the light) is feeling loved from woman who loves him no matter of his disfigurement.

    I just discovered this song. I can tell you as a born again Christian it inspired me. I was baptized at an early age, walked away from God and became an atheist 20 years ago. Last year I tried to commit suicide because of marital infidelity but wasn't successful. At that point God put his saving grace upon me and brought me back out of the darkness into his light. That's what this song says to me. Our sins are the darkness and God is the light. When I first heard this song my soul was alight with joy and love. Everyone has different takes on what the song says to them. Glad you liked it. Another song that speaks to me is Disturbeds Sound of Silence. Very powerful song.

    I am glad I saw this video because I have wondered about this song. To me the darkness inside is real and is always there unfortunately. A happy dad and husband on most days, I love God and love Jesus Christ, but sometimes the darkness of depression does not let go and grabs a hold of me without warning. I have listened to this song many times and I can only think about how it is represented in my lifes walk and struggle.

    I get the darkness showing the light. I spent years battling drug and alcohol addiction, and in my lowest place I had a motorcycle accident that put me in a wheelchair. I couldn't stop drinking, I couldn't stop using, and I couldn't walk. God reached into my life, and today I'm 14 months clean and sober, and I'm on 2 feet again. Life still kicks the crap out of me at times, but because I spent so many years living in that awful hopelessness, I can appreciate what I've been delivered from and where I'm at now. I'm thankful for a constant reminder of just how bad it can get, and just how powerful God is to do for me what I couldn't do for myself.

    It’s simple; we all experience tragedy and sometimes out of tragedy comes a lesson and an awakening.

  • @jonispatented
    @jonispatented 6 ปีที่แล้ว +61

    The biggest problem is that you are searching for some kind of religious meaning but there isn’t one, not intentionally, anyway. Also, if there was, it wouldn’t have been one about Jesus. It’s simply saying that sometimes, going through some really bad stuff can introduce you to some really good stuff. For an example of this, watch the music video. A man gets disfigured from a fire and thinks his life is basically over (darkness) but then, during his rehabilitation, he falls in love with his nurse (light) and he never would’ve found that light if it wasn’t for that darkness. Sometimes darkness can show you the light.

    • @MarcelWilsonLynch
      @MarcelWilsonLynch 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      JonIsPatented well he is a pastor plus what's the issue if Christians do find religious meaning behind it. Just because you aren't religious for the one's who are the light in our life is Jesus and our relationship with him found while wandering lost in the world (the darkness) and if that bothers you then watch a reaction video not by a pastor.

    • @sharasman
      @sharasman 6 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      JonIsPatented people of faith always see the spiritual meanings in lyrics. That’s the beauty of music. It can mean something different to everyone.

    • @jonispatented
      @jonispatented 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Justin Walker of course yes I just meant that there wasn’t an intentional religious message. Like if you do find a message like that, and i easily see how you can. It wasn’t the original intent. It just worked out that way

    • @jonispatented
      @jonispatented 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Marcel Wilson-Lynch I don’t think there is an issue. I found the video fascinating actually. I never thought of it that way. I was just trying to express that if you find that meaning in the song it’s a sort of happy accident as it certainly wasn’t intended that way initially.

    • @BRUISER14
      @BRUISER14 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Most Christian rock and Christian metal music doesn't scream Jesus. Theres nothing wrong with looking for a spiritual meaning in non-Christian music. I consider music that can be interpreted either way great. Lyricists who can have a Christian rock band and have their music interpreted by a non-Christian or a non-Christian band that can be interpreted as Christian. Like for example Demon Hunter and Red are unapologetically Christian but they're lyrics can be interpreted into a non-Christian way and bands like Alter Bridge that can be interpreted in a Christian way. It's just good music. Dont try to restrict someone because they view lyrics a different way. That's the whole thing about music. It's meant to be relatable to the listener.

    I know this reaction video is a couple of years old now, but I feel that it's important to try to explain something. David's girlfriend killed herself several years ago (look up Inside the Fire-Disturbed). He stated that it was a conversation with Satan telling him to kill himself as well.
    He worked through it (look up "Reason to Fight-Disturbed), even telling you not to let it steal your soul. Then this one is written. The past several years of his life, translated into music, is very personal, true, scary, and beautiful. These few songs, to me, show how you can go from considering suicide to finding the light by just keeping hope inside.

    In times of desperation, or times of "darkness", your pride is broken or your "guard", and youre able to see the light. As well, look into Davids relationship with his father, a vicious religious zealot. His hope in his faith was crushed by his fathers example..dont let hope become a memory.. All of these words are so cryptic, and to assume direct meaning...you lose the power of the message..it is possible to overcome... The inner dark, is righteous anger, and we are encouraged to let it ignite the fire within you..the fight to overcome...SO POWERFUL

    Hey first time seeing a video of yours and I’d like to share my experience with you.
    So for years I have suffered with depression, anxiety, mental health problems and I’m still trying to get diagnosed at the age of 20 with whatever is going on with me. (Possibly aspergers) but because of all the harassment, bullying, myself attempting suicide , people trying to kill me or threatening to kill my family and a whole lot more. I went counselling many times and all but my last session worked because of something they tried. They put me in a state of trance and helped me to overcome one huge thing in my life which stopped me from cutting myself.
    Aside from the last paragraph I still suffered with depression and anxiety and PTSD (not confirmed by doctor). I ended up listening to disturbed and many other bands which may be considered heavy metal. The bands them self may sound heavy but you listen to the words and you find a connection with people.

    This song has helped me in ways that words will never be able to express. Nearly 2 years ago my brother passed away while I was pregnant with my son. I listened to this particular album of Disturbed's alot during the week between his passing and his farewell while I was travelling to help my parents with the arrangements and this particular song always stood out and gave me hope and strength that I was struggling to find. Later on in my pregnancy, my son, Gabriel, would start kicking furiously whenever I would play this song and he still settles down whenever it is on. He was very literally my light during the darkest time of my life. A couple of months ago I got a tattoo for my brother (my parents both got the same one) and within it we have the lyrics "Sometimes darkness can show you the light"; we all have a sense of peace now just being able to look at our arms and see these words.
    Disturbed's new album has a song that has become my go-to song for days when I really struggle. I highly recommend having a listen to Reason To Fight.

    The song discussing an unforgivable tragedy... Like a Child dying, or in the video, a firefighter who was severely injured on the job. It shows the recovery process and coming to love yourself and believe in yourself again. It is very different from what you might think. It is not meant to be read into very deeply, its a very deep song that discussing depression and recovery, but the meaning behind it is fairly clear.

    This song he wrote about those going through suicidal thoughts, or actions, he is sharing that even in the darkness we are not alone. He was saying that the darkness inside is the devil and sin and we need to learn that God if we just listen to him can help us! If you watch the video he talks about suicide not being the answer that God is out there, and not to lose any hope because it will help strengthen us in the hard times with God right next to us.. then towards the end of the music video he give out a suicide hotline and says some other things. If you want to also know the song Wrong Side of Heaven, if you watch the video also you will see he is talking about war and people with mental issues due to war...

    I get that you wanted to see the lyrics, but the actual video shows what the song is talking about. It shows a fireman who gets badly burned in an accident. He is in the hospital, he’s depressed at how he looks now, but in that darkness, he meets a girl. His therapist. She sees him beyond what he looks like now and they fall in love. In that darkness of the aftermath of his accident, he finds the light in her.

    The meaning of the song from my point of view is that whenever you are at your weakest point in life a light can be shown to bring you out of the darkness and show you that there is hope. As the song says sometimes Darkness will show you the light and sometimes people has to fall into the darkness into the weakest point in order for the path to be shown to the light

    Hey, it would mean a lot to me if you did a reaction to Rehab - It Don't Matter. Rehab is kind of a spiritual band to a lot of it's liseners as most of us have in or in and out of rehab and or AA and/or NA. One foot in front of the other and all that.
    Cheers.

    I have to go to a church where the pastor opens his sermon with a Disturbed song! If you didn't know, the did a video where a close friend of his took their life. So he's quite proactive in helping others with depression. And they put on a great show (seen them twice). Keep up the great work and think about posting the services on here if you don't already. If you do please let me know.

    To the others that commented, just a heads up... This song's music video notwithstanding, the beautiful thing about music, is that a song's interpretation is at the discretion of the listener. I even believe David Draiman himself would understand and appreciate that.

    I love channels like this. In fact, I love it when people do things like this in general, stepping out of their comfort zone of music.
    I really wish more people gave different genres of music a try a lot more often and stopped labelling other based on what they listen to.
    Just cuz u listen to metal or anything of the sort, doesn't make u a devil worshiper who loves "screaming and noise" for music. It's the same the other way around. Just because u listen to Christian music, doesn't mean you're a saint or even a follower of that religion.
    Maybe in a just universe these things could happen; however, sadly, we're not living in one of those nor will we ever. Sad but true.

    I just came across this reaction, and I have to say that having read many of the comments, that there is another aspect of darkness that most seem to have missed...addiction. To me, this song fits in with the recovery process like a glove, especially when the process is Christian based. Perhaps that is the sermon you might think about.

    Pastor Andy, you make a good point. And I don't know why I didn't make this connection sooner. The line 'sometimes darkness can show you the light' powerful words. There is a song Disturbed released years ago titled "Darkness" may I suggest giving that a listen? My interpretation is, perhaps "The Light" is a pseudo-sequel to "Darkness" with the plot line being a person's journey, in life and in spirit. "Darkness" representing point A, and "The Light" representing point B.
    Btw, Disturbed is my favorite band👍🏻 Love these videos you guys make! God Bless 🙏🏻

    Disturbed has a song from a previous album saying “give in to the night”. Maybe this song is the same theme just sprinkled with sugar.
