My father was a Chicago firefighter my entire childhood and died on the job. He is my hero to this day, 30 years later.

Wow, I'm so incredibly sorry to hear that! I bet you're very proud of him and his dedication to serve the community. Things can really hit home. My boys are also with Chicago and I was watching the news a couple of months ago and they reported on an explosion that took place while fighting a fire and one of the firefighters was injured/burned and taken to the hospital. I learned just a bit after that that it was one of my sons. That really made things real for me. Fortunately he didn't sustain any life threatening injuries, but he did miss a couple months of work. Thank you for your fathers service as a Chicago firefighter!!!

My husband was badly burned last year. No one knows what burn victims go through. They’re traumatized over and over during the following treatment. It takes a long time but there is light out of the darkness, eventually. That fear of it happening again NEVER leaves you. It really is a meaningful song about recovery. But hard for us to watch. ❤️ to all those who have gone through it. You’re in a special group of extraordinarily STRONG people. ❤️

I’m almost 64…I am also a “70’s mind” lol. I’ve loved this song from the first time I heard it. I’m stunned sometimes by the versatility and talent of Disturbed as a whole, and especially David Draiman. Dan Donegan is an incredible guitarist, vastly underrated in my opinion. Thanks for doing this one!

As much as I love how this video was shot, I have often thought a better ending would have been him running into a building to rescue someone as a civilian after having gone through what he had

Thank you for sharing your personal response, please don’t apologise. It really shows how David and Disturbed take those difficult subjects (watch A Reason to Fight), and show that there is help and there is hope.

This song, A Reason to Fight, and Hold on to Memories are my favorite Disturbed songs. If you haven't heard them they're well worth your time.

A lot of Disturbeds songs deal with dark parts of our lives, but in a positive way ultimately, David has written a lot of songs that are pretty personal in some way including dealing with suicide. David is a great advocate for mental health and always makes a point live of reminding the audience that most people either have to deal with it personally or because of somebody very close to them. Disturbed can sometimes be hard to listen to but are always ultimately worth it

THURSDAY!!! Disturbed are releasing the first single from their up coming album! "Hey You" sounds awesome on the tidbit preview so maybe you can plan a reaction on it, too.
"The Light", imo, is one of Disturbed's best, of a whole 100+ catalog of really great songs. I think that the lyrics do speak to anyone being tromped by fate, both physically and/or mentally to not give up hope ... to find a way to grow and find the positive from your pain, no matter how hard it may seem. The video just happened to make it about an injured firefighter, but it could just as easily been anything, such as a soldier, a police officer, a car wreck survivor, or even, just the average guy beaten down mentally by society, or, a bad job ... or whatever. I think it is applicable to situations in just about anyones life. David writes the vocal melodies and lyrics to riffs/segments of music first composed by Dan and Mike, Guitarist and drummer. So all the music is a joint effort of the band.
Thanks for the Disturbed reaction! Hope to hear more from you soon!

I have a son addicted to drugs , hes in rehab now. This song just resonates with me. I hope he gets through this dark time, and the rest of our family.
I love your reaction videos. Keep it up.

David Draiman...imho, one of the best male vocalists on the planet! The man has amazing range, unbelievable control and the ability to turn the vocal fry/destortion on and off at will! Not an easy task. Loved your reaction!

Hello Bob, two sons who are firefighters and then this song. I can sympathize with you that it is not easy to see that. Our older daughter will start her service with the police in October after 3 years of study. She wants to do patrol duty for a few years. It's not mandatory, but it's common. We (parents) have our thoughts too. You can't always just switch off the cinema in your head.
The song is great. The music, the lyrics, the voice. I hadn't expected anything else. It should give hope in case something bad happened. The music is hard, the video is harder. I hope you understand what I mean.
I wish that your sons can always do their work safely. Because they want to help. The children go their own way. We have to accept that. The worries remain.
Everything is OK here. Keep enjoying the music and always showcasing and commenting on it so great for us.
    Greetings from Germany

Hey Olaf. Yea, that's the thing. Those darn kids grow up and find their path, even though it may not be one that we like. It sounds like you're in the same boat as me with your daughter. If you're anything like me, you can't be more proud of her though! Thanks for checking in. I always enjoy your comments.

Another great vocalist is Tom Englund of Evergrey. Floor Jansen has guested on Evergrey - song "Disconnect" - or try "Where August Mourns".

First, god bless your boys. I believe we all have our paths to walk. I love the message of this song. I’ve had many times of darkness but it has definitely helped me appreciate the light. Oh, by the way, I had an 8 track player in my car when I was a teenager. I know that was from a former video, but had to tell you. 😁 Also, stupid observation, my first concert was “Rush”

I know God doesn't give us trials that we can't overcome. He knows everything about us; and he knows our strengths and weaknesses. Positive experiences are blessings and bad experiences are lessons we learn as we become stronger. Thank you for sharing this song. Sorry it initially hit too close to home. All people who work in protective services have my utmost respect.

Hello Bob! Excellent reaction 🙂 And this song is extremely powerful. Like you said - The visuals, the music, the arrangement and the vocal splendor makes this special. And I understand very well how this impacts you even more than it does me, given your sons' line of work. I guess you're really proud of them 🙂 I particularly liked the ending of the video, where his gf/wife comes in with the bulge on her belly ♥ You saw her treat his wounds in the beginning of the video, and I wonder if she was maybe just a nurse at that time, but that she fell for his determination to push through or smt like that. Anyhow, to see that life continues like that, symboling the biggest light you can ever experience, despite of all the paind and struggle, is just very beautiful. It makes everything worth while, right ? My 2 cents there, not as cheap as last time. Take care, Bob! Love from Norway♥

Hi. I think you summed it up perfectly. This was such a powerful video. I nearly cut it off a couple of times, but it had such a wonderful message that I really wanted to see it through. Fighting through hard times is something we're all faced with from time to time. Hey, thanks once again for the listen. You're still a cheap ass. ;)

First, thanks to your sons for doing what they do.
