  • Welcome retired Mixed Martial Artist RJ Clifford and what better introduction than to get him to react to one of the best fighting games, Tekken 7! This MMA Expert talks about the realism of the moves used throughout the game from classic characters like Steve, Josie, and Kuma and how accurate/ effective they can be in a fight. What did you think of RJ’s debut?
    Tekken 7 is the ninth game overall and the seventh main installment in the Tekken series. Taking place shortly after Tekken 6, the plot centers on Heihachi Mishima and his son Kazuya as they prepare for their final showdown. There are various new elements included in this game, such as Rage Arts and the Power Crush mechanic, which makes it more user-friendly than previous games in the series.

      I really like this channel's ability to find experts who aren't just going to dump all over the games for not being realistic. Like the doctor who reacts to mortal kombat fatalities. He laughs about how crazy they can get and then gives out really interesting medical and anatomy facts.

      Well... it helps that for the most part Tekken's martial arts has been more grounded in realism than Mortal Kombat or even Street Fighter. You're not gonna find any water benders (Rain), blood benders (Skarlet), air benders (Fujin), lightning benders (Raiden), earth benders (Tremor), ice benders (Sub Zero and Frost), necromancers (Quan Chi), shapeshifting sorcerors (Shang Tsung), or blind telekinetic swordsmen (Kenshi) in Tekken! Although you _will_ find cyborgs, robots, and grizzly bears (oh my). Still, overall, there's not nearly as much supernatural / nonhuman stuff as there is in MK.

As others have pointed out on this thread, he didn't just dismiss moves as being "fake" and broke down either the moves themselves or their real life counterparts. Additionally, his technical breakdown was solid in my opinion. He really made concepts such as power, speed, angles, torque, counters, takedowns, submissions, and more accessible to the lay person without speaking down to folks. I love that there are these conditioning moves like what we express in fighting games. Threatening areas to force them to uncover areas they would normally already be covering, throwing out attacks that force the opponent to consider those options, and using status conditions such as stamina drain, bleed, and blind.
    It's actually incredible how well Tekken executed these moves too. It's cool because they've always cared about this kind of thing, and seeing this brings validation for this legendary series.

    @moonsaves 2 ปีที่แล้ว +27

    Alright, so a lot of these are pro-wrestling moves, and as a pro-wrestling nerd, I gotta chip in where he mentions them as being stuff like throws or slams with the real names:
    4:05 - This is a running version of an inverted powerbomb/dominator, as made famous by Farooq and Bobby Lashley. This one has a bit on the end where they jump forward onto the opponent and stand up like with a Steamroller.
    14:15 - This is an Irish Whip but instead of letting go, King holds onto Marduk, putting him back-facing. The move that RJ refers to as a "Twister" is in wrestling terms called an Abdominal Stretch, which is a very old school submission.
    14:58 - Tornado DDT.
    15:43 - Olympic Slam/Angle Slam, popularised by Kurt Angle.
    16:49 - That's a Reverse Gory Special. The unmodified version was created by Gory Guerrero, father of Eddie Guerrero and Uncle of Chavo Guerrero. Both used this version a few times.
    16:56 - This is an Irish Whip where King hangs on and brings them back in for a Lariat. JBL used a version of this he'd call the Clothesline From Hell.

    • @MagicalLobsterHand
      @MagicalLobsterHand 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      4:05 I think is more of a crucifix powerbomb
      16:49 That's a Kudo Driver that's was innovated by Megumi Kudo. While yes it is a modified Inverted Gory Bomb by the Guerreros, Megumi is given credit for the move while Hurricane Helms popularized and created the name The Verebreaker.
      16:56 I think it might be a reference to Okada's Rainmaker aka Ripcord Lariat. I know that this game had tie in with NJPW so I think they're referencing Japanese wrestlers.

    • @moonsaves
      @moonsaves 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@MagicalLobsterHand Yeah I could see the first actually because he hooks their arms. You're probably right on the second - I don't know my Japanese wrestling too well. King's twister was a pro-wrestling hold called an abdominal stretch. It's a very standard pro-wrestling submission hold, not to be confused with the much more painful looking octopus stretch. A lot of pro-wrestling moves are kind of developed from real submissions, just watered down so that nobody actually gets hurt.

      Because Spec ops mostly use rifles, they only get in hands when they black on Ammo or only for stealth reasons, its more practical and effective for them to use rifles rather than hands, and its more practical for them. They know how to use and Manipulate their rifles, not discrediting them of their Hand to hand combat training, but their first resort is their guns and its what they say. For a military guy on a mission, they have a weapon that they manipulate/use at situations, even they explained a stand point of combat, but then again combat has a lot of stand points and army soldiers and Martial artists experience only a side or more, MMA fighter is however a Stand point of combat on its own, I don't know about how you mean about the martial artists, cause you clearly didnt watch them all, if you pay attention, they did talk about how you would be able to do stuff as well. In tactical Hand to hand combat. This shows you dont really pay that much attention to detail.
