I remember watching this vid about 6 years ago and wasn’t ready to really digest this technique because I was too stubborn..I wanted to use my own technique but now on January 4th 2021 this video has changed my life of sorts!! I appreciate this so much
I second one of your earlier comments. "I have been on the TH-cam machine for a while and no one has explained the bassline jawn like you. You are God sent and i subscribed to your channel becuse of this feat. Peace" thanks for taking the time and showing and teaching. stay blessed.
I have been on the the TH-cam machine for a while and no one has explained the bassline jawn like you. You are God sent and i subscribed to your channel becuse of this feat. Peace
I was asking the question out of curiosity, it's kinda easy to adapt your method to an SP404+piano. So that must be the reason why you couldn't press each pads by order because that 16LVL btn actually helps you to get all the notes on your mic in one single manipulation (whereas for an SP like mine, I have to record each and every note I want to hear). That's great man, thanks to you I can now understand a bigger amount of MPC videos :)
Yo, the bassline you made is some flylo type shit. I'm mad impressed. The people that usually make tutorials make such wack beats but are so helpful when they speak about the ideas/fundamentals of making music. That's obviously not the case for you.
JFilt, I have to say my friend... you're tutorials have knocked the dust off my XL dude. I really appreciate all the tuts fam. Any promo you need let me know.
Much respect, you have some of the best beat making videos on TH-cam. This bass line tutorial is sick. I would start charging people for this information you are holding nothing back and I like the fact that you get into theory a little bit.
good look on this bruh i have an mpc that im about to fix and use in my own studio for the first time and this is a gem right here, i struggle with bass a lot, we need more kats like you, brotha!
Dude, i've been trying this for years, havent been able to do it...dont spend alot of time on the MPC 5000 that I have because of work, but you made this so simple for me now I got to go do this like right now
My MPC is down, so I’ve been trying to think of ways to reinvent my sound....I’ve been watching a lot of your theory based videos...you are a blessing, slim....that’s on the real...I know nothing about music theory other than what I’m learning from you...much love all the way from DC
I figured it out. My drum pad cant make those chops. but I can use direct wave in fl and import bass samples. I'm not good with my ear on note differences so I use melodyne to match what I play. I use the pentatonic scale on keyboard. thanks bro and I subscribed
That is such a great tip. And it ties into music theory. Thanks for that insight. It's like one hidden secret that separates leggitamate cooked beats from ametuer level productions. That low end is as crucial as everything else in the mix. Sucks tho cause my 2 row of pads going across on my Xl stopped working so I'm gonna have to adjust my bass notes around that whole row. Fuck!
I'm working out of fl. I'm using Korg pad control. It just works as midi. Has no internal functions. I pair that with FPC. I sample on that. I use direct wave and my keyboard to layer bass. I really just figured this keyboard thing out thanks to you did some research and thats my way right now.
The Secrets of FUNK-FU ! You gave away the pad numbers and everything! (lol) Great video, man. Youre really helping out these NEW JACKS...BTW, do you intend to buy the new MPC Renny when it drops? Peace...
I also use melodyne which I just got. So I play the pentatonic scale and then I'll analyze in melodyne the sample how its hitting the notes. Then I'll adjust my midi notes to hit those with my sample. So my bass will hit the notes the sample is hitting. Maybe I dont have to do this but just thought hit will sound as one with the beat.
Thank you for being the person, who really has tutorials which help. Thank you very much!! Dope beat by the way, good idea with the billie jean bassline hahah.
Just stumbled on this. You taught me something, which I'm gonna run away with. As I'm learning scales now (self taught), I was only familiar with the major/minor heptatonic scale. Gotta go, more study and practice is in order. Thanks :)
dope tutorial ...greatly appreciated....one quick question...how did u filter the bass sound..what did you filter out..sorry in advance for the stupid question im new to this producing game..thanks again djsman
I was turned on to Ur page by OverlorBeats. And I'm glad he pointed me in Ur direction, Ur tutorials are on point! Quick question, might be a dumb one but I need some clarification. When u go to 16 levels with Ur sample and u say the sample ends up on pad 4 is there an option in the mpc to make it always end up on pad 4 or is this automatic? I'm gonna be trying this technique on my MV. And need to know if I'm gonna have to find a way to make the sample land on pad 4. Thanx in advance.
Cool Beat ! How do you save the Bass Multi -pad? As a set or Set-up.? Can you show how to save your Multi-Pad assignment of instruments ..? You dig.?! Cool Very Sick Beats Thanks Bro!, DJ-RockStar
Extremely helpful and simple, thanks man! Any chance you could make a midi sync tutorial for the 2000xl? Can't seem to get my midi keyboard to play over the beat I create on the xl...I have midi in connected to midi out and vice versa with the mpc and keyboard. I play the beat I recorded, move to a track I did not record on, switch the drum to midi, then get silence. I can hear the sounds the midi keyboard sounds when I hit the keys, but the beat is not audible. Any idea what I'm missing?
Thanks for the vid man, much appreciated. Still got a few questions. I'm using an SP404 which doesn't have a 16 LVL buttn. What does it do on ur mpc btw ? And what'd u do with the scale ? Unless you've edited the video, for a non-mpc user, it looks like you only put one note of the scale in ur mpc (that first pad), then pushed a magic button to transfer the rest of the notes of the scale on the 15 other pads. It can't be right, tho, or is it ??
Love the beat!! Great job....I think there aren't too many bids on creating baselines because I think ppl caught on to the concept on 16notes button...if you read your manual a creative mind would run with the idea
hey man... liking the videos. just got one question. I recently got an mpc 5000 and im trying to figure out how you get the release of the bass sound to stop when u pull ur finger off the pad... mine plays the whole sound and is longer or shorter in duration depending on the pitch. so basically where is it that u fix that... i tried messing with the envelope and nuthing happened. Thanks
11 years later and still inspiring producers. Cheers to you

You manage to pack a lot of information in very short and concise videos. Cheers to you, champ.
I appreciate that!
man, this is gold. not for the video in itself, but because u match music theory and beat making. Few producers mind about that. Well done
Andrea Uliana thank u, i appreciate that
Everything you hit works that bass is amazingly flavory.

It's very kind of you to help people who can't do this. Though my advise to them is: just fuck around , you'll eventually get a feel for it.

@skeloton
You cant do it with a mpd unless using a sampler program or mpc with the sample spread across the keys. Hope that helps.
Bless you sir.
