  • I have spent the last week developing a low cost method for converting just about any of the large Bruder Trucks to hobby-grade RC - using readily available components and requires no specialist tools or techniques. This video demonstrates the capability of the first prototype as well as an overview of what the build involved. A full series of videos showing step by step how to complete this build yourself will follow.
    The Volvo A60H and excavator have not been forgotten, I will be returning to these next, I just had a real urge to get started on the trucks! 👍😀

    This is the REAL THING!! Using readily available materials turning a dead toy into something spectacular, instead of buying stuff ready online!!!! I have two boys and also converted some of their trucks to RC with whatever I can find laying around and some parts from Banggood, using arduino for radio controlled functions and so on. Keep creating and thank you for sharing with the rest of us!!!!

    Very ingenious method of mounting the motors and making suspension movement! While some guys might scoff at the low-tech involved vs their 'scale' conversions of a Bruder, those guys are also using 1/14 wheels/tires which are visually too large for a Bruder truck. Nice to see the Bruder wheels have sufficient traction, that was always a question of mine.

I am slowly getting into the world of construction RC, I have a Huina 580, A Magom Mini cat, and want to try and get the D5 Bruder dozer coming in the next short while. Long story short i have been watching your videos in awe, it is amazing what you can do. I do want to make the dump truck though. So i am excited to learn and see. I love Rcing, but must admit i really am not very aware of the electronics in these conversions. But i will be very proud if i can make it move and dump. Thank you so much for your kinds comments! 🙂 I've been at the the Bruder toys in earnest for about 3 months now & its amazing what you learn just by having a go at it - with a little bit of research and quite a bit of just thinking about it. I suspect that the easiest place to start with these is probably going to be truck (lots of room & quite simple), the lift on the tipper isn't too difficult either. I'm sure that I'll be doing step by step guides on all this soon. Good luck with your recovery. By the way I love the rock crawling course you have put together use on your TH-cam channel! 🙂👍

    • @RCModders
      @RCModders  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree with the ‘crude’ point. The challenge here was to make a functional model from a toy using simple techniques and low cost parts. And you know what? It has already had more use than the £1000+ Tamiya truck that I built a few years ago & I could have a small fleet of Bruders for the price of that! If I were to install two £4 ESCs (one for each axle) it would run even better. I think I need to lower the front wheels in the build when I get round to this one, but that’s all I would change. 🙂👍

    Great stuff, I laughed when you showed the soap dispenser, I used them on a couple of Mods and when cut back makes excellent suspension springs. I recently began using some parts from cheap 1/16 WPL Hobby trucks for a "World Peace Keepers" a toy conversion of a WZ 551 6x6 IFV and trying out on a Bruder MAN truck and trailer. Think your work is inspiring and the idea of your Bruder truck conversion is fantastic. At £50 for parts per toy, it is a realistic price to get into modding and look forward to your videos. The new "WPL" 2-speed gearboxes they have for "upgrades" are quite good and have some torque. Nice one.

    • @RCModders
      @RCModders  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you for you kind comments! I was trying to avoid Rc coil over shock dampers & having to mount them to the aluminium tubes & these just happened to be in good supply in our house (my wife bought a few of these at Aldi, I'll have to swop over the pumps from the "empties" before she gets any of the ones I borrowed from out of the cupboard!😂). They are quite stiff, but seem to work OK - especially with a heavy load. I was trying to keep the cost of parts down for people, so that anyone can have a go if they fancy it without having to invest a lot. I agree that WPL stuff (and normal upgrades) are a pretty good source of inexpensive parts too - especially if you want powered wheels that steer. 🙂👍

    • @axelusul
      @axelusul 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RCModders Thanks for replying, it seems like you too like to play the "Aldi/LIDL soap dispenser appropriation game". I have to admit I have swapped a fresh "pump" for an altered one on a few occasions. I am awaiting a recall at the shops or a letter complaining about German inefficiencies in soap dispenser design from our house.LOL.
      Next thing we`ll see is an ingenious "springless" upgrade, all because of our covert thriftiness and invention. The last "mystery" domestic cleaning problem was when again ALDI/LIDL had a fine metal mesh cap over their pump spray toilet cleaners, unfortunately, they ended up re-designed!. Hhmm?!. The axle's on a Bruder is 6mm plus 1mm plastic all around the axle = 8mm (7,8to 7,9/8 mm). Just to let you know. Othwise ceep up the good explanations and good work.

      Yes you are right on the nut size, sorry about that! 😊 The 3D printing thing really opens up the builds for people without a full workshop or much experience of fabrication. I will get back round to all of the builds that I 'owe' people - I promise - I just wanted to build up a little portfolio of prototypes & develop a little more experience & skill first. I think that the truck will probably do built 2 ways - with and without 3D printed parts, I start with version just using fabrication. The next build will be the tele-handler, then I will go back and make some of the others - including the trucks. 😁👍

      Hi. I am finishing one last prototype before I get started on the builds. I gave myself the Christmas holidays to learn 3D printing and the CAD to design / slice parts. That will be the CAT loader. I’ve designed cylinders with built in limit switches that cost about £8 each (including speed controller and gearbox motor etc) to go on this. Future builds (after the Mack/Scania and skid loader) are likely to feature 3D printed parts, although I will do a full video on buying, setting up and using the inexpensive printer that I have opted for (Monoprice Delta mini) the builds on the channel. Within the next couple of weeks I hope to do the hauler build. I’ll probably use a Scania as a base, but they are pretty much the same (Mack will require less trimming of the wheel arches), I will cross reference between the two so that either can be build easily from the build video. In the mean time you might want to join the Facebook group that I mentioned in the last A60H video where you can ask any questions to get you started and share your learnings people doing similar things. 🙂👍

    hi Tom here,hope your well. was wondering ,any update vids on bruder mack build ?

      Hey Tom. I have a whole list of them to do. Looks like skid loader build is next (see the poll on th-cam.com/users/lotus77scommunity). Then it is Mack/Scania time. I wanted to refine the design to make it easier for people & develop one or two 3D printed parts to make the build more straight forward and sourcing parts less of a hassle. Just finishing the revised Sprinter prototype first. Have you thought about joining our build forum yet (facebook.com/groups/313698865844090/?fref=nf)? 😀👍

    Is there anyway you could provide a link to the steering knuckles you used ? I’m having a hard time finding them !

      Hi I searched, the best place to look for these or similar would be at Mardave, the manufacturer (www.mardave.co.uk/) or look on Ebay, where I bought mine. In the update / build series, I'm probably going to make something available using 3D printing to make sourcing easier for this conversion. 😀👍

    i asking if possible to use wpl part for converting a bruder truck?

    • @RCModders
      @RCModders  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Personally I would recommend WPL for the larger Bruder trucks - track not wide enough etc. Possibly OK for the Jeep Wrangler TJ (I' used WPL on this) and Mercedes Benz Sprinter. 😀👍

    could you give an insight on how you got the wheels off the metal rod axles, man are they on there good.

    • @RCModders
      @RCModders  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think that I show it in the second video on the Mercedes Sprinter. Basically saw the axle somewhere towards the middle, put a metal nut on the plastic wheel shaft part of the wheel (5/8" I think on the Mack, M8 on the smaller vehicles), put in a vice & lever off carefully with a claw hammer. I found heating just made the tyres warp & shrivel! I'll be doing the detailed build in the next few weeks & will be sure to show this stage. 🙂👍

    not bad but i feel you are selling it short using the stock wheels and tires. for one they are ugly as sin and not realistic in many ways. veroma/afv/wedico to name a few have many options for that scale that are worth adapting. sure, it will cost more than the whole project itself but this is not hobby grade with those wonky stockers. and no bearings on the front? you are just rotating the wheels onto the spindle rods. nein!

    • @RCModders
      @RCModders  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi I think that you make some fair points. With the Bruder conversions I am deliberately trying to keep the build very inexpensive and actually maintain the original Bruder look. For what they are, Bruder wheels/tyres work a lot better than I thought they would. I know that i could go the whole hog and use hobby grade wheels / tyres / axles / transmission. I do have a fully upgraded Tamiya Scania with infrared link to the trailers etc - but to be honest the Bruders get a lot more use. Plus I can afford to build a fleet of Bruders which I could never do with premium 1:14 scale model kits. Thank you for watching the & taking the time to comment on it.😀👍

    • @johndonovan7018
      @johndonovan7018 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Right if you are going for a fleet it makes no sense. But for the front wheels, you can use a headed pin, stick it between some bearings and mount the wheel to that with a set screw (like you did the rears). this way the pin spins in the bearings, and not the wheel on the pin. ive used this myself and is way better, especially if you put any weight on it. Great for unpowered axles.

      Good thinking. I'm planning to do the Mack build videos using custom 3D printed parts that I plan to design. Should be easy to put a couple of ball races in each steering block. 😀👍
