I love the honesty of this video. A few things haven't worked out, you've had some mishaps, things have broken off, you've had to do the odd work around and yet the end result is still an absolutely stunning model.

Ah what a wonderful model of a truly lost era. Thank you.
I was bought up around an airbase (in Australia), and when I was a 6-7 year old, play time was often running around the base where the Sabres, Mirages and Phantoms would gather. Occasionally a BAC Lightning would turn up for airshows too.
The thin aluminium skin - dented, and gleaming in the sun highly polished.
The beautiful smell of Kerosene, and as you climbed up in the cockpit and played with the pilot's helmet - the smell of kero and brylcream. Everyone's Dad wore brylcream, and their hats on the hall stands always smelled the same.
When they took to the Sky, the F-111C with afterburners on was always a crowd favorite ... but for me the shriek of a Mirage rocking past was the best (they always looked on the edge of being out of control) ... until the Lightning took to the sky. There is literally no sound on earth like the roar of those twin Rolls Royce Avons stacked on top of each other. The ground shook, dogs and cats would run and hide, and mothers would hold their young children closer.
BAC had managed to bottle up pure insanity, and render it in shiny metal, as if to make a lasting statement that the British Empire had reached its absolute peak of Britishness, and the world would never be quite this excellent ever again.

I've seen all sorts of aircraft flying, but my one regret is not seeing/hearing a Lightning in the sky. My dad worked on them in Malta. The closest I got to one was working at Warton on Eurofighter, a static one displayed on the airfield, XS928 if memory serves me right.

Magnificent Greg. I was lucky enough to know a former Lightning pilot who flew out of RAF Binbrook in the early '70s. He was a good friend and passed away last year aged only 70. He didn't care to talk about it that much - we had other things to talk about beside aviation - but he always had a part of a Red Top missile he kept from a live firing exercise on his desk at work.

Another great model, one of my favorite aircraft of all time. I first saw one of these at the Finningley Air show in the mid to late 60s, the sound it made was scary but brilliant. That's a lovely build, I really like the effect of the variations in the tones on the metal skin. I've been there and got the tee shirt on breaking a model almost before finishing it. The pitot tube got caught in my shirt as I left my bench and dragged the model off onto the floor where it exploded into bits - most annoying.

Beautiful job! These were one heck of a plane and you’ve done it justice. Be nice to see a Phantom to go with the old-school interceptor theme.
Back in the day I’d just mostly completed the Italieri DC-3 Spooky but hadn’t got around to adding the small bits. Took it to the club and a 10 year old picked it up and fumble dropped it flat on the floor from kid-height. It was remarkably unscathed and we were both relieved. It went on to win a competition.

Don't worry about weight on the nose gear. Almost all the weight is on the mains unless you REALLY overweight the nose. If you add just enough lead to keep it from being a tail-sitter, there's almost no load on the nose gear.

I'm sitting here quarantined with covid (not too severe - rather unpleasant but I'll survive) and viewing that bit was actually painful but the end result is magnificent. So, I had read a model review about this kit well before watching your videos. The guy that had done the build and the review, swore up and down about the inaccuracies about this kit, how much modifying he had to do, how much of a nightmare this kit was to get right. Turned me right off from the kit, altogether. Trumpeter should be doing better for the price their customers pay for the kit. All in all, you did a fantastic job. She did turn out great. @@GregsModels Some 40, 45 years ago, many types of aircraft flew over. Some very low, others quite high, going through the sound barrier. It gave a sudden and quite intense bang ! Almost rattled the window glass out....
Some flew over my house, at less than 1000 ft. That was the first time I saw the typical tail of the Fouga Magister. Easy to recognize.
The MOST impressive airplane, winner by a million miles, was the F-4 Phantom........ It was beyond loud. It was like an erupting volcano, flying over..... Scary loud. As it fly away, I could see the two exhausts get bigger and brighter. Intense yellow, vibrating.
Intense and deep rumble, which could be heard even at a large distance.
I think the Lightning must have been something similar (?!).
The F-104 Starfighters could also easily be recognized: loud and fast. Now you see it, now you don't. Because of their small wings, they always have to fly fast. More manoeuvrable than most people think. It could change direction quite fast. Especially, when it went up. Like a rocket. It never slowed down.... Not as manoeuvrable as an F-16; clearly far more nimble than an F-104.
To this day, I am still amazed none of the F-4's managed to knock out a few windows, although sometimes, they did get close............
      My mother hated those things.
For the last 20 years or so, NONE of these types of aircraft have been seen over my town. Alas.
