I'm LOVING the Thai series. Finally we are getting all these series where the lesbians are the main characters. No more waiting for 5 mins of screen time for a couple in series. I also like how different they are from what I'm used to. I hope they keep them coming and I will keep watching :D
This is my jam. My Cup of Tea. Since I found Gap 2 years ago - I dove in head first and never looked back. With daily releases across many channels I haven't watched anything but Thai in years. Even started on a few BLs this month due to the side pairings. Everyone has their own tastes, and that is how it should be. Mine just happens to be this. This list is a great start, thanks heaps for sharing
@100percentshipper not sure if you will. It takes all 12 eps of MMDY to realize it's good. Secret of us is the highest paid gl series with the best acting and budget. Blank is my #1.. if you didn't like them I'm not sure what. Affair just started this week - Reverse 4 you starts tomorrow. the JPC Series channel mainly follows 2 actresses nearly every week in a diff story. H'our Channel is low budget but multiple series every week. But you did your research - got the top of the favourites list.
I don’t know how to explain how that series made me feel. The problem is not the age gap between them. It’s the fact that the youngest acts like a child all the time, that the older falls in love for her after the mother made her feel guilty because she was premature. And then, when they have sex, the young one doesn’t act like a child anymore! But just in bed! Everything is so wrong. I couldn’t watch all the episodes. Just skipped to the last one. I like the other GL series, but blank has too many odd things for me!
@@lauretta90100 I understand where you're coming from. First thing I'll say is that they drama is staying true to the novel where Anueng talks in a nasally, whiney voice. She's also only 18 in the novel when she first meets Nueng rather than almost 21 in the drama. Personally I would have preferred Anueng to act more maturely, but I'm not bothered by her immaturity. My favourite drama genres are age gap straight noona romance and age gap lesbian romance. I know with the Noona romances, I expect to see the younger man acting maturely to convince me the older woman would believably be interested in him, and it frustrates me when the younger man acts immaturely. But for some reason (and I'm not sure why), I'm willing to give Anueng's immaturity a pass, which I guess makes me inconsistent.
I found Gap 2years ago and I’ve gone down the Thai GL series rabbit hole ever since. I’ve watched majority of these GL shows and tho I’m not of a couple of them, I’ll say that these GL’s & BL’s ( boy love) are very popular and I’ve learned a great deal about Thailand and Thai culture by immersing myself into these shows. Being American we don’t ship actors in shows. But in Thailand entertainment it’s very much a thing, whether it’s a GL or a BL. It’s actually kinda encourage. Which honestly I’m still getting used to 2 years later lol but with it comes toxicity among fans at times in different fandoms and sometimes within their own fandom. I turned to GL’s because I was sick and tired of watching shows that had wlw characters get together then turn around and mistreat these characters and have them do out of character things. Or these shows end up canceled after 1 or 2 seasons. With these GL’s I know exactly what I’m getting without having to deal with cancellations or bad character developments. These GL’s or BL’s aren’t perfect and they’re still developing. And also I don’t have to deal with the wlw just being the side character. With GL’s and BL’s they’re not side characters, they’re the leads. I don’t care about happy endings as long as the story makes sense but with these, they usually end with happy endings. So sorry this was so long, but thank you so much for your review of these GL’s and potentially bringing more fans to the world of GL’s
I can definitely appreciate how the guarantee of getting sapphic leads and a happy ending would be a relief! If you've got any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!
100% behind you on your assessment of Nueng and her childish, silly ways compared to Khun Nueng a real, adult and mature beautiful woman. Thank you for your evaluation.😊
Glad you made a video for the Thai GL series!. Giive another chance to The Secret of Us - i understand your feelings about the banana thing - spoiler alert, she does it also in another episode. But apart from that the show is very nice and the acting too. The director also the same one with Yes or No - the very first GL series in Thai . It's my favorite series actually so far 😋
I saw Yes or No many years ago and I enjoyed it, thought it was well done. I may get back to the Secret of Us but just thinking about Earn eating a banana dessert annoys me so if I do it won't be for a very long time.
@@100percentshipper If it helps, also spoiler, the second time she does this she gets scolded so the stupidity behind eating something you are deathly allergic to is addressed 😅. TSOU is my current top. I feel like it has the least problematic plot and the acting is actually really good compared to other Thai GLs. Granted, i do feel like there are flaws to the writing, especially in the second half of the series. But still worth a watch.
Thanks for the run down this is a great summary! With you on the problematic power dynamic in the middle of GAP but also conscious of cultural bias given I wasn't that aware of Thai culture when I saw it.
I watched Love Senior but it is hella confusing. I don't know if it was a culture thing, lost in translation, or the script that did me in. Definitely give the Secret of Us another go I luved it.
Ohh you’ve missed out on The Secret of Us. Yes I totally agree that Earn’s behavior in the beginning was really stupid. There will be another one stupid decision that’s she makes in this show. However, this time there will be many characters educated her for you 😂. But other than that, in later episodes, Earn is such an understanding, reasonable and mature character. There’re problems about pacing (it’s just too short with only 8eps) and the storyline is such a typical Lakorn Thai😅, but there’re excellent performances from both female leads and all characters to cover that weakness of the series. Actually, the acting in dramatic scenes in this series are the best for me. It feels so realistic and I got goosebumps while watching. If you’re interested in great acting in general, you ‘ll love it. Their chemistry is great, but their love scenes might not be intense or top tier like GAP or Blank. Because it the 1st time that Channel 3 (which is old national television) produces their own sapphic show, hence why they try to appeal to general audiences as much as possible. GAP and Dream were aired on Channel 3 as well but Idol Factory is the one who produced them. It’s genuinely great to see more sapphic shows were made in Thailand compared to 10 years ago. When there were just one great film like Yes or No or a short series advertisement with great sapphic storyline in it, otherwise there’re few short series with toxic relationships disguised by based on true stories😢. That’s all I have growing up in this country. Now we’ve various genres of sapphic shows. There are still some problematic stories but at least I have an option to choose. The Loyal Pin is the one l’m currently watching. I feels so glad that sapphic Thai period drama has finally been made with great production value and beautiful cinematography.
It's definitely heartening to see so much content coming out, it's not often the sapphic audience is courted the way it is here. Long may it continue and I hope it will encourage other countries to do the same!
We would get along so well bc the way u crawled into my brain and then made a video with all my thoughts . I stopped watching gap bc I couldn’t get past the power dynamic then I stopped watching blank as soon as it was revealed that she was in high school bc wtf 🌝🌚 (didn’t even know abt the whole held back thing until this video) and then I stopped watching the secret of us bc y would you willingly eat smth you’re allergic to 😭😭 also the timeline pissed me off, why’d we go through 3 years in 30 minutes. N e ways 10/10 video
WTH? They ALL have happy endings, that’s LITERALLY the genre. Meet, one is ready to go, the other is hesitant, then they have sex, start a relationship, have a massive obstacle, then reunite, and live happily ever after.
While I get the appeal of these shows (positive-ish sapphic representation with fluffy plot lines!), you kind of have to take them with a really big and salty grain of salt (light-skinned, East Asian looking, hyper-feminine, thin leads). The colorism is difficult to overlook (I stg I even remember one show having a skin lightening cream ad). I feel like folks who are darker-skinned, fat or trans are relegated to silly side characters. Not to mention the real life shipping of actors feels icky and queerbaity. But hopefully when a market gets oversaturated with this type of content, eventually you start see some diversity in lead actors. But probably not.
I tried to like Blank, but it was too squicky. I noped out after a few episodes, the age gap and the childlike appearance of Yoko was to much for my suspension of disbelief.

I would not really disagree with your initial statement, but not totally agree either. Thai series are mostly made of 90+% drama, where GAP is no exception, while the romance parts are more like an occasional insertion, which feels as if producers felt forced to put it there or else their viewers would run away. It gives the impression that if it were alone for the will of the producers it would be 100% drama. If you want proof that I'm not the only one who cannot stand this extreme drama, do a search for reviews, comments and reactions of GAP episodes and you'll notice there's next to none about EP.11. For my taste Blank beats GAP by a mile and a half because of less drama, shorter drama periods and less serious drama within the episodes, but still even Blank has more drama in it than I want to see. Only very recently there have come up a ton of GL short series with next to no drama in them, but those are produced by very small teams with extremely low budget, resulting in productions where amateurish would still be an exaggerated compliment. Show Me Love is a good example there, because from the storyline it could have been great, but the make is just too far below amateurish and the extreme softening filter they have put over the videos is just another sign of that. A little correction, GrandTV tried at first making only EP.1 free and the rest for pay, but that dropped the popularity of the show so much that they figured out the money YT pays them for the clicks on free episodes is more than what viewers are willing to pay, therefore they made all episodes free later on and they still are all available here on YT. It's about time that the bigger productions pick up on the idea of reversing the ratio between drama and romance from 90:10 to 10:90, but we're by far not there yet. When it comes to the happy endings that don't break your heart, well, yes, these series have them, but in a really compressed form, i.e. Blank shows in great detail several episodes that all play within the same few days, but the happy end covers over 20 years within the last quarter of the last episode. One can only try suggesting to producers to watch Sense8 and take a wild guess why the series was so bad that they terminated it due to not enough viewers and the movie they made afterwards became a huge hit. Might be because the series was full of drama while the movie had full 90 minutes of continuous happy end. I've developped the habit of not watching any of these series until the last episode has been published, i.e. I haven't seen anything from The Loyal Pin yet, for two reasons, 1 if they come up with jokes like all episodes free but last episode for pay only and streaming only, on channels so small and weak that you can't be sure for how long they will be online, like Love Me Lex did, I won't watch any of it, I don't mind paying, but streaming only is a no go for me, 2 once the series is complete I can binge watch it and skip over the 90% drama.
Thanks for the corrections - although when I looked at the Show Me Love playlist, it had a few episodes as 'members only' so it looks like it they may have changed things again.
@@100percentshipper No, they just left the pay version online in parallel, if you look closely you find all episodes twice, once members only and once free, just with different upload dates.
