  • For my Presets visit: johnnathancordy.gumroad.com/ The NUX Mighty Air - I'm imagining most of the online reviews you'll see of this are probably paid or sponsored in some way - this one isn't. In this kind of range, I guess the most obvious other choices might be a Yamaha THR redir.love/thoprod/474510?par... or a Vox Adio redir.love/thoprod/414583?par....
    However, both of those options are quite a bit more expensive, and have less choice of amps, and don't have the built in metronome, which is pretty useful for practice.
    They do have a tuner....Which is an odd omission from the Nux Mighty Air.

    Weirdly, it doesn't mention the capabilities as an Audio Interface in the manual - but it can do that.
    So you could plug in via USB, then in the app set the USB mode to "Dry out" and then use plugins like Neural DSP Archetype Plini, or Amplitube, Helix Native etc.

      Yep, Showed up straight away in garage band on my Ipad, need to check for studio one when I get to my Mac at home. Traveling with this bad boy at the moment.
      I wish the App had a few more features but over all at this price point its hard to find something that has this many features in a practice amp of its size. I think the Spark Mini from positive grid is the same price point and their app is quite nice, and the mini is rechargeable which I love. I hate batteries and changing them. The next verdict would be to compare the sound and power of the Spark Mini to the mighty air. Probably the only thing in its class at the moment.

      can it record via USB using its own modulation? And can you write di signal but monitor yourself with modulation like yamaha thr can?

    Excellent review and I'm absolutely thankful that yours was not sponsored. I really like your music and I try to emulate your tone. Unfortunately, I don't have the budget for better amp gear. Could you do a video showing what settings you particularly like on the NUX?

    Sounds good! Love little amps. Try running the HX Stomp output into AUX IN on the Mighty Air - some of these little stereo practice amps serve great as a mini-PA for quiet jamming if/when you need to rehearse using your live Stomp settings on the go.

    I have one and love it. I actually play it more than my Yamaha THR. Not that it sounds better, just that its so small and light and always ready to go.

    The Vox can be "tinny" sounding. The cure, hold down the wireless connect button until it turns yellow....it rolls of the high end a little to simulate cable capacitance.

    Great vid. Q for the horde...the transmitter for this unit makes a buzz when plugged into my Tenor ukulele. I've tried adding in a 90-degree Mono adapter, but no love...next step is adding in a 12-inch or so extension between the Uke and transmitter. Any other ideas/observations? Love the amp, just wish it worked with my rig...Is my Uke cursed?

    Did you happen to try the headphones out? I’ve been using a fender mustang micro which works well but isn’t super easy to adjust on my guitar(rear facing output jack)

    I am on-the-fence between this one and the Yamaha THR30II? - if anyone has used both and can share any input, I'd appreciate it. I do love the Cleans on the THR - they are very impressive. Tasty playing ( as always ) enjoyed it.

    Has anyone successfully used this as an interface? In my experience it can sort of work with the AUX cable (with sub-average quality), but never with the USB.

      yeh! I just found that out trying it as an interface alongside Neural DSP Archetype Plini - works - wonder why it isn't mentioned in the manual?!

      @@johnnathancordy The ability to use the Mighty Air as an audio interface was added in a firmware update months after the amplifier came out - it's for this reason that it's not in the manual.

      Is it good if I'm trying to record and produce as a beginner? Or should I buy a audio interface with the same price?

  • @jakollee

    Even tinier is the Nux Mighty Plug, have you tried that? I have it, but have some trouble setting volumes between the different amp channels, and getting a decent rhythm edge-of-breakup sound (probably a reflection of the fact that I'm a total newb with modelers). Also, the backing jam tracks it comes with in the app are only about 1 minute long, so not very useful. But you can connect a phone or ipad by bluetooth and play along to backing tracks on youtube, which is great!

    App wouldn't work unless you give it permission to GPS your location. What the actual hell? Why would anyone need to know my precise location when I use my amp?

    • @shawnmcginnis2508
      @shawnmcginnis2508 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Bluetooth? If so then yes. Lowpower Bluetooth has a "requirement" to have GPS enabled. The "reasoning" behind it is that you could theoretically be tracked via Bluetooth so in requiring you to turn on GPS you should know full well your location isn't private. That is the official response as to why GPS and Bluetooth requirements in apps go hand in hand. Same thing when I got a bose bt speaker. So well I never use the app and can still connect with GPS off. If I wanted the benefit of the app location must be enabled. Same thing for my Nikon DSLR.
      Anyway I think it is a load of bull, but feel free to come to your own conclusions.

    • @Phoenix_cataclysm_in_2040
      @Phoenix_cataclysm_in_2040 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@shawnmcginnis2508 Same here, they want us being tracked 24/7. I turn off all location permissions, Bluetooth etc as soon as I stop using them. They still can locate us by using connectivity of our phones with transmitters, but my point still stands: I won't be giving such permissions to some lousy app so I could use my amp.
      My Nikon D300 is not GPS enabled though, I'm so sticking to the old tech that does everything I need and more, minus GPS tracking.
