The most beautiful train line in World? Next, the Main Line passes the Hindu temples and remnants of the UK Empire via tea plantations and forest.
In the 19th century, in the country of Ceylon, British constructed a railway. It was their plan to bring products like tea from the mountains to Colombo harbor. Today the path is known to be one of the most picturesque in whole Asia, many local people and visitors use the so-called "main line."
Our journey takes us to Ella in the mountains, from the capital Colombo. One of the biggest elephant orphans in the world is our first line. And then to Kandy, the Sinhalese Kingdom's former capital. The city is home to the famed Tooth Temple, the top-left canine of the Buddha. The train then goes up into the mountains. We see tea pickers at work and visit a tea factory to find out the taste. At an elevation of almost 1900 meters, Nuwara Eliya is Sri Lanka's highest area, where the colonial age is still revived by a racecourse. The stations maintained the imperial beauty to themselves: A signalling network was set up in 1901 to increase the health of the long trip. And at the last line, the spa in Ella, anyone that suffer from altitude can breathe.
