  • Al Jolson sings I'm Sitting On Top Of The World in the 1928 film The Singing Fool. Jolson was contained by the limitations of the early film process which meant that he had to perform live in a limited area so that the early microphones could pick up his voice. An incredible performance under the circumstances.

If I'd had this much energy at 42 as Jolson did, it would have been incredible...

It is said that Jolson told Larry Parks that Parks was moving about too much in representing Jolson on film. Al reportedly gave a demonstration of the way to do Jolson in Larry Parks' dressing room, and at the end every piece of furniture had been knocked over.

This movie enters the public domain in the United States in about two months (at the time of my making this comment) on January 1, 2024. When that time comes, it won't be long before a lot of people with copies of the film put it online to watch for free. Will be fun to watch this movie many times for free :D
Edit: This movie is now in the public domain!

Yes rap, can't except it as mainstream music. Ok you can get a good one but mostly nothing. If you could understand the words they maybe deep songs. I see rap as poetry or choral type singing.

Yeah, how about that? The crash was coming but who knew? The market was booming, the fish were jumping and the cotton was high. Young women were flapping their way across the landscape in bobbed hair and short skirts. The party seemed like it would never end.
