Hi sir! Thank you for the videos you are putting for us. Really helps us all. Happy to connect with you :) I’m an IMG done with Step 1 and interested in the field of Internal Medicine.
That "huh?...Aiyoo" at the end!😅 Dr. Rajeev, How com-pe-titive is Orthopaedics, It's been two years since I graduated, And I've been giving my FMGE screening test & USMLE steps, currently looking for research posiitons will be applying for 2025 Match. Would this gap make my CV look bad if I apply for Ortho resident after taking a pre-lim surgery position? Would scoring high in step 2 make up for it? The reasons for my delay were changes in NMC guidelines for FMGs & I had to undergo a knee surgery too, would these be valid reasons if I were to apply for competitive specialties/programs?
Ortho is very competitive. Based on the limited information you have provided, your approach for research seems fine. If interested to discuss how to go about it, you can book an appointment at Calendly.com/IMGSecrets www.IMGSecrets.com
Thanks. Observerships are indeed considered as valuable experience, but they may not be equivalent to hands-on or direct clinical experience. www.IMGSecrets.com
Dr. Rajeev I don't think these links are personally researched by you. The very first link takes you to the CHOP's website where it's clearly stated that CHOP observerships MUST NOT be used to gain experience for US residency programs, and that NO LORs will be provided to anyone
You are right about the expectations of CHOP. There are other hospitals too in the US that have similar expectations. But what makes you think Dr. Rajeev did not research these and is not aware of this? www.IMGSecrets.com
Thanks Dr. Avinash. As you can imagine Florida is a big state and you can explore all major universities in Florida and apply to IM Departments or to sub specialties. Any University with residency or fellowship or both in my experience take observers
There are some hospitals that want observers to go back to their home country and don't offer LOR. Others do... When you apply, you should check for those. The LORs are not guaranteed and depend on how well you do. More likely to get it if done well. At IMG Secrets, we are working with clinics/hospitals on starting observerships. Stay tuned! www.IMGSecerts.com
Hello Sir! Thank you for this informative video. This was written on the page "CHOP observerships must not be used to obtain US-based experience for the purpose of seeking graduate medical training (residency and fellowship) in the United States." Could you possibly explain what that means? And is it worth it if I apply for this for my residency application?
IMG observers fall into two categories: First, those who undertake observerships to enhance their skills and then return to their home country with the new knowledge. Second, those who pursue observerships as a stepping stone to settle in the USA. Institutions like CHOP and several renowned universities prefer the first group. If you identify with the second category, it might be beneficial to explore other hospitals. www.IMGSecrets.com
Major University Hospitals often charge a fee for observerships. While many IMGs are interested in doing observerships, is there a specific reason you're looking to do it for free? If you're facing financial difficulties, consider explaining your situation to the hospital and inquire about the possibility of obtaining a waiver. Alternatively, you can explore smaller clinics and keep asking if they can accommodate you without charging a fee. It's worth exploring various options to find the best fit for your circumstances. www.IMGSecrets.com
Dr. Matanat, without delving into the specifics of your unique circumstances, it is challenging to provide a definitive comment. However, upon completing the necessary requirements, the prospect of finding a suitable opportunity should not pose an insurmountable challenge. I encourage you to check the hospitals i have listed in the video. www.IMGSecrets.com
Its reasonable to assert that all 17 Universities in Canada offer an observership. Check this video How to find jobs at top 17 Universities in Canada | Proven IMG Framework th-cam.com/video/PeC6wYFz7Zg/w-d-xo.html www.IMGSecrets.com
Thank you. While you can apply for observerships during MBBS, I recommend considering the option of clerkships during medical college, as they may offer greater benefits for your learning and growth. www.IMGSecrets.com
Hello sir! thank you for such informative videos, as most of the programs you have mentioned are the children hospitals so are they only for Pediatrics?
Yes most of them are children's hospitals. No they are not only for pediatrics but for all specialties. For e.g., let us say you want to do residency in Radiology and you observe pediatric radiology, this will be a huge thing for you!
Hello sir. I am Dr.Rachana, a medical graduate from India. I am yet to start my USMLE journey. In order to get the B1 visa, letter from the hospital (observership/externship) is required (to improve the chances of getting a visa). I am interested in the field of psychiatry and would like to gain clinical experience in the US in psychiatry department (observership). Could you please suggest universities for the same. thank you :)
Dr. Rachana, i understand your point. The hospitals will not give you a letter for your visa. This is because we all get too many requests for observers. As much as we love to have everyone it is not feasible. Here is what you should do. Apply for observer ship and once accepted, you can use that to increase your success on B1/B2. The other option is you can present a paper at a conference and you can use that acceptance letter for your visa. All the hospitals in the video will give you observership in all specialties! Follow the link in the description to apply!
