KapteinJonz Like the other guy said. Plus, except the 4 chords at the end, it doesn’t sound at all like anything from Paddling, no matter the version. But since it’s still a cool moment, I’ll count it as a sort of interlude. Edit : I tried to edit the time stamps, but since Kexp pinned it, I can’t
How does a band only on their debut album already sound so in control of their sound, so confident in the soundcraft, so dynamic in their performances, and so unique, all at once, and be so young. I’m so blown away. Just wow.
@@nockee welcome to the best thing happening in rock rn. There are some incredible bands working. Try shame next, “station wagon” was probably my favorite song of the year
As a drummer, I always love seeing a band where the lead singer is also the drummer! That takes some serious talent and he is killing it. So are the rest of them though, these guys are just absolutely shredding it!
Hüsker Dü's drummer Grant Hart used to share the vocals and songwriting with guitarist Bob Mould. A great voice, that is so sorely missed. RIP dear Grant.
Also as a drummer,I've tried..yeah to keep it short it's hard. So keep your body straight and breathing (especially if your waving your arms around). Wow,dudes my idol

For those digging that kind of sound, I recommend (if you don't know them already) Tortoise (legendary) Trans Am (especially the first albums) RIEN (amazing French band)
If their live concert is anything like this, I'll be getting value for money for sure. I'll be listening to this on loop loads for the next few weeks, at least!
Just worked their set at Chop Suey (Seattle). One of the best sets I've experienced while working since Ghostland Observatory at The Crocodile Cafe in 2006.
Watch for the live in-studio they did at KEXP when they came thru last month (heard over radio stream, video not up yet) Saw them at Doug fir in pdx night before and was blown away. Live energy and chemistry just unbelievable.
Just checking this band out because I read that their debut album is the top rock album of 2021. My first impression is that these are very talented guys who are doing what they do because they love doing what they do! I've only listened to a few snippets so far, and I'm not hearing anything too catchy yet (I like a rock sound with a pop formula), but I'm definitely going to give this a full listen tonight! BTW, I'm a 45 year guy that really, really, really want "grunge" (i.e. guitar-based hard rock songs including some quiet tracks that haven't had all the life overproduced out of them) to make a comeback. 🎸
"Pamphlets" is their live closer (Paddling, here). I'd put it on this summer and just jam around the neighborhood on my bike at top speed. We Were Promised Jetpacks might hit that powerful guitar love with quiet moments you want. (Not much pop formula tho, mostly referred to as post-punk). On tour now and a great live show! Adam Thompson is a powerhouse and great songwriter
You can never play Peel Street loud enough. Even seeing them live recently it could have been twice as loud but i dont think the building would have literally stood up to it.
2 bands. Crack Cloud and Squid ... From 2 different parts of the world... Making very similar music. And get this .... Both their drummers are the lead singers, and both have the same cadence... Either someone is copying,or thats how the world works. And thats just🤯
Awesome! Heard a lot of influence from this band. It's like you listening to Radiohead+Pixies+Sonic Youth+Boards of Canada.. P/s: Just from my perspective. ✌️
Im with you on that. Its what alternative music is to those of us. The rejects the freaks with a message and energy and attitude. This band really encapsulates that.
There’s so many great bands making music today, right now, you just have to look a little harder nowadays. I personally find some of the past 20 years of rock to be some of my favorite music of all time, tradition and classic rock purists be damned. Music never died.
Amazing set !

They are amazing live. Saw them at the empty bottle in Chicago.
This is serious. Good important music still exists. Love and admiration, guys! Hail to KEXP!
holy crap these dudes rock and the drummer has a killer voice!
One of the best bands ever! Reminds me so much of In-Rainbows era Radiohead but with all that goodness WARP provides us with. COME TO UTAH!
The sound, dynamics, and aesthetic of this band are remarkably immediate and brilliantly realized...I'm hooked
thank you guys for making bright green field my album of the year.

Incredible, proper love this band, old school sounding synths,, fresh new brains
Amazing voice quality! I wish Pamphlets was on the setlist
They killed it at the End of the Road Festival this year. So good.

THIS BAND IS SO SICK HOLY COW
Somehow they are every artist I’ve ever heard, yet somehow entirely different. Squid is the best!
Incredible set - but also fantastic camera work, editing and sound mixing! love it
Love it, we need this now!
Wow! Squid's regular sound interwoven with free improvisation! Nice!
