  • In a powerful memoir, Mark Lukach writes about his young wife, Giulia, who was hospitalized three times for bipolar disorder, and how the couple navigated a frightening world of delusions and treatment that threatened to overshadow the joy of a love story that began in college.

Dont be scared if you can manage it. If you remember who they are you can be something of a beacon or at the very least breadcrumbs leading back home. My husband has somewhat frequent psychosis and yes its painful and yes you worry if they will make it through each time but please try to remain an anchor for them as long as you can. I live by skidrow and i see discarded humans daily and i wonder why no one is nearby watching out for them and i think that plays a huge role in recovery that you have someone who didnt forget who you are even if you did temporarily.

Thank you for sharing this, it’s hard to find good information on this topic. It’s hard to know how to help your partner. You guys are strong to get through all of this.

Two heroes. For him to stick by his wife through that is amazing. God is working in his life and his heart. For her to be so vulnerable and transparent about it is inspiring.

I went through a similar thing especially the medication issue. It made me a completely different person. I was probably much too young and too over medicated. I didn’t like who I was on anti psychotics at least the ones the had me on. I turned me completely cold like I had no emotions. Luckily after a year we got it worked out but it’s very scary losing who you are for any amount of time. Luckily I had a wonderful husband like she does that stuck through it and helps me tremendously

The most loneliest thing to live with. As a wife with a schizophrenic husband that refuses to speak at all for the last 13 years it’s heart breaking. I can’t share this with too many people because people don’t care to hear about it and never think about how life with a MI husband is like. Only God has gotten me through this. There are times that I myself feel hopeless because my husband refuses all help, refuses all meds of any kind. He is completely paranoid as part of his mental condition. Therefore with him not accepting help from doctors or medications, there’s really no hope other than a miracle from God.
The hardest part is that he refuses to speak 100% of the time. I feel like I’m on my own and just have to move on .
I’ve cried and prayed endlessly but sometimes I guess we just have to accept it, and look to stay busy with positive things just to survive one more day.
My husband is at least a calm person, but extremely stubborn. I guess I try to focus on the fact that he could be worse, violent or running away all the time. Nevertheless the pain is always there.
It’s the nightmare that never ends. God has gotten me through and I’m very thankful.

Hi @adesign3755 how you convince your husband to take his meds? Coz right now I'm having difficulties to convince my husband to take meds. He's currently on his 3rd episodes now.

@@angielynzapanta4271 I honestly don’t think he will ever take his meds. But I have read that a lot of these meds have bad possible side effects so it’s hard to know if it’s good or not to have them take them. I guess it’s an individual decision.
