What a thoughtful and brave young couple. I applaud you both for sharing your story. Hopefully this will help continue efforts to break the cycle of shame and embarrassment associated with mental illness. "We are in this together" should be society's mantra to offer hope and show success in managing and living with mental illness. Wishing you and your family all the best.

I'm teary now, Mark and Guila, after watching a year later than my first view. I'm honored for you to read my book, "Beyond Messy Relationships: Divine Invitations to Your Authentic Self." You two are my heroes! You've given me courage to write my memoir. My husband and I both read your book when I didn't know my marriage would last after his second episode. Even as a mental health professional, this journey of both of writing and living through the traumas have stretched us and bonded us more. Your loyalty to family and endurance through your journey speaks volumes to me. Thank you for the courage to share your story!

Bipolar is just an excuse to act out and get away with it because you’re “sick”. Women use this tactic often

The comments here let me in on why mark's videos typically have the comments shut off. Everyone's a judge of something they have no idea about. Everyone knows everything. That is until they get put in a situation as difficult as this. Btw having children is a human right and picking and choosing who can and cant yeah thats called eugenics do a little looksee into who was big fans of eugenics... yikes.

Wonder how Giulia has managed to remain thin all these years after taking mood stabilizing and Antipsychotic drugs which tend to put on weight fast no matter how hard you diet and exercise! I assume she has to be on either Depakote or Lithium (Mood Stabilizers) and Antipsychotics like Zyprexa, Risperdal, Seroquel, Abilify, Geodon, etc which are notorious for causing the dreaded "Metabolic Syndrome" which is the precursor to diabetes.

Have you read the book? They have a plan where she only takes Risperdal if she starts the not-sleeping stage again. When she did take that and Haldol during the first breakdown, she gained a LOT of weight. They have a plan that works well for their family in terms of medicine - to me, it was one of the many helpful parts of the book, to see how they could proactively take part in decision making together before she started breaking from reality again.

My mom gained a lot of weight on her medications and it destroyed her self-esteem. Is she shallow too? Hop of your high horse. I hope you’ve grown up since you posted your comment.

@Skye Obviously you missed the point. Usually if someone is sick with mental illness, their friends and loved ones hope they get better and are more concerned for their mental health, not worried about their weight. So yes, if weight is someone's primary concern, they are shallow. Somehow I don't think that was the primary concern for your mother or for you. So you missed the point. But if you think I was immature for pointing out someone having more shallow concerns, then pound sand.

Lack of sleep and stress at work can cause anybody to act out of character. Seing a psychiatrist is probably the worst thing you could do in this situation. Stability can be reestablished without harmful psychiatric drugs. Being honest with yourself, and establishing healthy routines and of course prayer is what you needed. A psych ward experience will only cause extreme trauma.

I think thats part of the point, to help show that mental health struggles are common... They want to help others know that they are not alone...Sometimes just knowing that is enough to help someone continue pushing through💙
If you are going through something similar, maybe your story could help or even save someone else 💙

I've heard very mixed reviews on Amazon on this book. That he very much plays the poor me victim and really doesn't seem to have much empathy for her. and to have a child in this kind of tumult was very selfish and not good of him especially. The reviewers believe he just had no clue really what to do and didn't trust the medical world either so he was stuck.

Read the book please and stop reporting what other people reviews are. That's shallow of you. I read the book and her husband is one of the most selfless person, and what he goes through to help her is one act or kindest love and support. Read the book and give us your opinion whether positive or negative. 🙄🙄
