At last somebody who can walk the walk. No preferred lies behind camera, no second takes, no false laughs. No all talk and no action, etc. Brilliant Paddy
It’s great that a player of Padraigs stature can take the time to share his knowledge like this , love his tips and videos surely more pros should follow his lead 👌
not only is it helpful,,,he actually cares....I thanked him mid round last year , and he looked in my eyes and said,," I hope they are helping you"...classy guy!
I am constantly amazed at the quality of his teaching, it is by far the most relatable and cut to the chase of any lessons I can find on youtube. This is money.
Thanks paddy never forget your always massively appreciated for supporting and taking your valuable time to help us less fortunate to improve our game …god bless 👏
Absolutely fantastic. My chipping has got worse lately and I have just now realised that it was for the reason you said Paddy. I have been shortening the backswing and trying to force speed through the ball causing me to knife chips through the green.
I've been struggling with chipping for years after having been very competent in my youth. The longer backswing and gravity concepts might have just saved me Paddy. Thanks!!!
Chipping and short game anxiety is a tough thing to get over. It seems counterintuitive to go longer with the backswing.. but of course you are right . I love the shortened follow through with the club pointing parallel left at target.
The advice to use gravity is golden and something few instructors mention. 👍 Gravity is the most consistent force on the planet, accelerating mass towards the ground at 32ft/sec/sec. and acts not just on the club head but also the arms which have far more mass than the club head. Using the hip and shoulder turn to accelerate the arms and club head and then just letting the uncoiling of the legs and core plus gravity do all the work on the way down produces very consistent distance control. One of the first golf books I purchased in the 1980s was Tom Watson’s “Getting Up and Down From 40 Yards and In” in which he suggested two drills. In the first you hit every wedge and iron in the bag with 1/4, 1/2 and 3/4 just observing and making notes on carry, roll and height. In the second use the data gathered in the first to hit close to flags 10 - 40 yards away with all the clubs. Do those drills with the technique suggested by Padraig and you’ll see more options around greens and shoot lower scores.
ever since I watched your first video on chipping, something clicked and chipping became the best part of my game, by far. I'm only a 9 handicap, but the apps say I'm scratch or better around the green. thank you for putting out these tips.
Thanks Paddy! I am the world's worst chipper of the ball. the examples you show of bad chippers are exactly what I do and worse. It has been a long time frustrating problem. One pro had me try cross-handed, left hand low. looks awkward but does help some. I will try the gravity technique. Thanks again!
Those footjoy tour alpha pros you wore at the recent event i must say they are absolutely a chefs kiss! Maybe because i own the same pair😂😂😂 Padraig your the man!
Fantastic Padraig. Chipping is the best part of my game always has been. What I have always tried to explain to bad chippers is to accept a bad chip. Everyone does it at some stage, so get on with it and don’t get too worked up. ( this is the confidence you talk about), I play chips with massive wrist hinge to try and check em up quick, doesn’t always work but sure so what, I’m almost guaranteed to be chipping on the next hole, so bad is the rest of my game and I’ll have another go. Amazing how I’m no good with driver off a perfect lie😂
Gravity doesn’t care- it’s bringing the club down - I stretch my left shoulder up - to counteract the clubs gravity and that completely takes the grab out of the shot - not grounding the club at address makes a much smoother- lighter feel to the shot - awesome once again from Mr Padraig
I really have the chipping yips. For years people told me to shorten my backswing. For years I've been practicing the wrong technique. I always felt more comfortable with a longer softer swing so it's great to have that affirmation from this video. So will back to spending more hours undoing what I had practicing before lol.
Using gravity significantly improved the consistency of my chip and pitch shots. The quality of my strike improved immediately once I stopped trying to accelerate the club through the ball and let gravity accelerate the club instead. I heard people say, "feel the weight of the head" but nothing resonated with me more than using gravity. Thanks Paddy.
I noticed you seemed to have moved the ball back toward your right foot for the high spinner at the end. Can you elaborate? Love the content by the way. Can’t watch enough! Looking forward to the new series.
Your Eminence, what about wet/damp ground , i notice the club goes deeper (no bounce) into the soft soil, thus the ball goes no-where. even if i open the face a tad. Your input would be Valuable. Regards the mud warrior!
Paddy: Do you feel as though you’re swinging slightly left through impact with your chipping? With a slightly open face and a ‘feel’ of swinging left slightly across it is giving me brilliantly crisp ball contact..
So hear me out.... As far as grip pressure, I think it could be interesting to see a slow motion video of you swinging a tube of toothpaste face on in slow motion. That way I can film myself doing the same thing and compare the amount of toothpaste discharge at various points in the swing. I think this would give real insight into the mysteries of grip pressure in the golf swing. Just a thought, if nothing else, it would be highly entertaining.
There’s a bit of a mistake here - if the club is in a straight line pointing at your body when it hits the ball, that would be its low point, so the divot will not be after the ball.
I look forward to seeing you on TV and the Tour soon David, Jesus, fancy saying that 4 time major champion has made a 'bit of a mistake' beggars belief!
Why do so many coaches teach that it's ok to catch chip shots fat with dead hands? A lot of the pros that discuss their feels and they all say right hand releasing under the ball. That seems to be more athletic and dynamic. I do understand, however, you have to practice a lot.
Paddy, a playoff with an old man who you can out drive by 50 YARDS, WHY WOULD YOU HIT DRIVER OFF THE TEE??? WHHYY!!! Lay up every now and then man, Jesus Christ.
Everything that comes out of Paddy's mouth is pure gold...
Sure is, saved my game

I always get so excited for his next video to learn something new. He’s prob the only pro teacher I trust now.
❤

Alway succient and to the point. Thank you Mr. Harrington. 👏👏👏
I've been struggling with chipping for years after having been very competent in my youth. The longer backswing and gravity concepts might have just saved me Paddy. Thanks!!!
God love ya' Paddy! Thanks so much for continuing to bring us old duffers these great golf tips!
Paddy's videos are the most straight forward no BS lessons.

One of the very best. Irish lead the way! He's a golf genius and future HOF!
This aged well
Excellent tips again Padraig, always informative, thanks.

If you ever wondered about the pros, who are less than 1 percent of all golf players globally here's paddy, loving vlogs never miss one 💯👌
It's like getting golf lessons from a tall Leprechaun!! I love it!
I think gold nugget is when he says throwing the club under. Anytime i think of this feel the contact is so solid! Thanks Padraig!
Clear and precise information! Thank you Paddy! Love your help! From Australia.
Thank you very much. Really appreciate the time and effort you put in to help us play this great game.
Wonderful. If only we could've accessed such info on all aspects of the game 45 years ago!
padraig makes so much sense no wonder he was such a great player
Totally works, chipping and wedge advice is pure gold
ever since I watched your first video on chipping, something clicked and chipping became the best part of my game, by far. I'm only a 9 handicap, but the apps say I'm scratch or better around the green. thank you for putting out these tips.
"you gotta TROW it!!" awesome tips Paddy

Thank you Paddy!

I've never heard of this tip. Wow
Sucked at chipping today in a round that wouldve been pretty decent. Needed this video
Very good advice! Many thanks!!
Padddy your the bomb!!! thx for the help!!!
Brilliant as ever Paddy.. I'm really going to pay attention to the practice swing tip as I'm guilty of just going through the motions. Cheers.
Ok I’ll admit it. I’ve been binge watching all rainy weekend and it’s the best. Can’t wait to hit the range and practice. ⛳️🏌🏼♂️
Can never be enough on chipping IMO !
Fantastic video Padraig

Great stuff, looking forward to getting some practice in tomorrow. Worked on the carpet!
Good luck!
Thanks for the tip. Some Suggestion for the next Video: Woods from Fairways or course Management. Your work is greatly appreciated ❤
Great video...priceless info....
amazing instructor... thanks Paddy.
Always so great practice tipps. Love your videos so much 🥰 Cheers from Munich /Germany
After his lessons I absolutely stripe the ball!

Wow seconded.
Great tip👍
Excellent Lesson Padraig. I struggle with too much weight or lean on my front foot. Any drills to stop me doing that?
Mr Harrington your tips are best.what clubs would you use from 100 yards in
Thank you Paddy

Would love to see more mental game tips.
Love this guy
That is what I need to improve, thanks

Love the content by the way. Can’t watch enough! Looking forward to the new series.
Spot on😊 agree 100%
Hi Paddy, could you do another video with shoulder and torso movement please?
I see many coaches recommend using a weak grip as well, what do you suggest in terms of gripping
Please come to Colonial NIT
Aren’t these more like pitches than chips? Good stuff.
Is this a chip or pitch? Can you show the difference? Thanks
What do you mean when you say hit under the ball? Culb face goes under the ball ?
Your Eminence, what about wet/damp ground , i notice the club goes deeper (no bounce) into the soft soil, thus the ball goes no-where. even if i open the face a tad. Your input would be Valuable. Regards the mud warrior!
Thank you
Thank you sir play well on tour
The thing with the towel… does that mean you are a leading edge chipper not a bounce chipper?
Paddy: Do you feel as though you’re swinging slightly left through impact with your chipping?
With a slightly open face and a ‘feel’ of swinging left slightly across it is giving me brilliantly crisp ball contact..
If I win tonight’s Euro Millions I’m paying Paddy for a week’s intensive coaching ! (Wonder how much he’d charge me 😂)
guarantee you he easily knocks 5 strokes off your game....
Probably not that much if he didn't have anything on! 😂
How to stop hitting off the toe
So hear me out.... As far as grip pressure, I think it could be interesting to see a slow motion video of you swinging a tube of toothpaste face on in slow motion. That way I can film myself doing the same thing and compare the amount of toothpaste discharge at various points in the swing. I think this would give real insight into the mysteries of grip pressure in the golf swing. Just a thought, if nothing else, it would be highly entertaining.
I’ve practiced that , with the towel an inch or two in front of the ball ,it looks easy but it isn’t ,it drives me nuts 😢
Interesting Paddy, that you spent no time discussing detailed setup specifics like shaft lean angle, hand and ball position, etc.
@@pauloliver8803 he clearly didn’t mean to say it. It’s not matter of holding ability - it’s just physics and gravity.
Also, he won 3 majors, not 4.
@David Graham the 4th was the US Senior Open just last year, although not a PGA major but still a major nonetheless
Chipping tips from a proven tour professional, doe's it get any better than this folks? I think not!
Why do so many coaches teach that it's ok to catch chip shots fat with dead hands? A lot of the pros that discuss their feels and they all say right hand releasing under the ball. That seems to be more athletic and dynamic. I do understand, however, you have to practice a lot.
Sir, appreate.
Isn’t this pitching?
Don’t know about this , tried it but too many fat chips.
Paddy, a playoff with an old man who you can out drive by 50 YARDS, WHY WOULD YOU HIT DRIVER OFF THE TEE??? WHHYY!!! Lay up every now and then man, Jesus Christ.
Just brilliant! 👍🏌️♂️
