I was critical of Kerr all summer long, but I've come to realize that he was caught between appeasing the players' egos, and actually making the right basketball decisions. There are thousands of basketball minds coaching high school that know more than NBA coaches. There are small business owners that can run a team better than half the GM's. Most are just former players but playing and coaching are completely different. Kerr is not a very good coach. He is average.
I disagree with brian and perk, and that Lady reporter is correct. Jason tatum may not be as good as a defensive player as white but hes not far off and his offense is better. Tatum been in a shooting slump but to not play him 1 minute this game when booker jrue antman and white was bricking and getting cooked on defense is diabolical!
Ant and White barely played any minutes. Jrue is a better defender for the guards and Booker is a better shooter than both of them. The only thing I will say is that Tatum could've replaced White, but White hasn't been on a shooting slump and is considered a better defender. Although Tatum is better offensively, the team doesn't need his offense when they have KD/Ant/Jrue handling the ball and playmaking for the second unit.

@deedavis926 Cant get in rhythm if you don't get playing. It was the same with Steph because of the shortened rotations and most of them are volume shooters. His best game was only yesterday I believe and mostly due to him getting bulk of the playing time.

I don’t think being USA coach is a thankless job, just manage the rotations well and you’ll get high regards. Popovich and Coach K were some of the previous USA coaches and they managed everything great. Kerr problem is that he looked at this like a regular NBA team and not an Allstar team. First 3 quarters you could mix up the lineups, give players minutes, the 4th quarter go with the best lineup and hot hands.

What Tatum fans need to understand is that D.White comes in for a few minutes as a ball handler to give Curry or Holiday a break and play some defense. Not to mention Booker was scored on by Jokic twice maybe three times in the entirety of the game. Booker is the best pure catch and shooter on the team (other than Curry if you want to count him), and that's why Kerr has him in those moments. Tatum is one of the best players in the world and is also one of the best volume shooters, but he needs to get into rhythm to make catch and shoot 3's - Booker doesn't. Tatum wouldn't have changed a single thing unless he finally had an elite game (but he hasn't had one since joining the team).

Windy’s point is that in every organized league around the world, the majority of rotations are 8-9 players at most, with clearly defined roles. And everyone on this team is used to being a starter within that format and is used to playing starter’s minutes. It’s an adjustment to have your time cut in half; it’s harder for some guys to get their rhythm … Curry is a case in point. Notice that he scored most of his points in the 1st quarter … he clearly decided that he needed to come out firing like he does for GS, instead of deferring and taking a back seat, and then never getting on track. Windhorst is a professional commentator, and pretty knowledgable. If you don’t care, then why are you commenting? Why should we care about what you have to say - what are your credentials? Great help by the referees in the 4th. I know some of USA fans might be blind to traveling calls, and if you watch EU/International basketball and the NBA you see the difference in those calls, they are rarely called in the NBA. Bron TRAVELED 4 times that game. Straight up. Clear travel and no call. KD got his whole foot out in front of referee and hit a three after. No call. Those things change the course of the game. Refs cannot be starstruck. Panamanian referee was the worst. At the end of the day Serbia missed some open shots in the fourth and they can only blame themselves, but its not all cut and dry.

I was critical of Kerr all summer long, but I've come to realize that he was caught between appeasing the players' egos, and actually making the right basketball decisions. Overrated coach, but he has the most difficult job in American basketball as of right now. & The team is getting everyone's best shot. There are thousands of basketball minds coaching high school that know more than NBA coaches. There are small business owners that can run a team better than half the GM's. Ant and White barely played any minutes. Jrue is a better defender for the guards and Booker is a better shooter than both of them. The only thing I will say is that Tatum could've replaced White, but White hasn't been on a shooting slump and is considered a better defender. Although Tatum is better offensively, the team doesn't need his offense when they have KD/Ant/Jrue handling the ball and playmaking for the second unit.

I don’t think being USA coach is a thankless job, just manage the rotations well and you’ll get high regards. Popovich and Coach K were some of the previous USA coaches and they managed everything great. Kerr problem is that he looked at this like a regular NBA team and not an Allstar team. First 3 quarters you could mix up the lineups, give players minutes, the 4th quarter go with the best lineup and hot hands.

Not to mention Booker was scored on by Jokic twice maybe three times in the entirety of the game. Booker is the best pure catch and shooter on the team (other than Curry if you want to count him), and that's why Kerr has him in those moments. Tatum is one of the best players in the world and is also one of the best volume shooters, but he needs to get into rhythm to make catch and shoot 3's - Booker doesn't. Tatum wouldn't have changed a single thing unless he finally had an elite game (but he hasn't had one since joining the team).

There’s a reason Mark Jackson is not coaching in the NBA but Kerr stepping in and winning has little to do with Mark Jackson and more to do with Kerr. The Warriors won championships and were always the better fundamentally sound team in just about every series. Barry Switzer inherited a team that won two straight Super Bowls with their core players in their prime and only managed to win one Super Bowl. Winning multiple titles in any sport is hard and Kerr has 4. He has to be doing something right. With that said, he clearly has some agenda or may be following orders. Allen Iverson is an all time great, top 5 SG all time, top 50 player all time, but he wouldn't see the floor on this Olympic team. That's how the Olympics works. You fill a spot on the team, and if Tatum was a great catch and shoot player then he would've had the spot over White and Booker. But he isn't that and the things that he does do great (slashing the defense, defending, playmaking, scoring) is done better by multiple other players (LeBron, KD).

Jonathan - it’s not about whether this is a tournament or a league … that’s just not worth discussing. Windy’s point is that in every organized league around the world, the majority of rotations are 8-9 players at most, with clearly defined roles. And everyone on this team is used to being a starter within that format and is used to playing starter’s minutes. It’s an adjustment to have your time cut in half; it’s harder for some guys to get their rhythm … Curry is a case in point. Notice that he scored most of his points in the 1st quarter … he clearly decided that he needed to come out firing like he does for GS, instead of deferring and taking a back seat, and then never getting on track.
Windhorst is a professional commentator, and pretty knowledgable. If you don’t care, then why are you commenting?

When the lead was cut to 6 in the 3rd quarter, Kerr snatched like 3 or 4 guys out at once and the lead ballooned back to like 15. THIS is why he is being criticized. His rotations are predetermined and no one who was coming on was able to catch a rhythm. HE GOT SAVED. Booker has played his role as being a spot up shooter and played great defense in the 4th. Edwards legit just dropped almost 30 last game. And holiday and white are there to guard their guards. Great help by the referees in the 4th. I know some of USA fans might be blind to traveling calls, and if you watch EU/International basketball and the NBA you see the difference in those calls, they are rarely called in the NBA. Bron TRAVELED 4 times that game. Straight up. Clear travel and no call. KD got his whole foot out in front of referee and hit a three after. No call. Those things change the course of the game. Refs cannot be starstruck. Panamanian referee was the worst.
At the end of the day Serbia missed some open shots in the fourth and they can only blame themselves, but its not all cut and dry.
