    Man, that sky! Perfect backdrop for a bit of RC action. So much better than a featureless blue or grey expanse.

    When I was a teenager I had a red ugly stick powered by a .20 engine. I loved it. I cried when it crashed. I still miss it. Maybe I will get one of these?

    Finally I got this plane delivered. Is it true that the undercarriage is not strong and need to be reinforced with ply ?

    The version 1 was one of my all time favorites!!! I have the V2 on order and ca't wait to get it!!! Have they changed where the battery goes? V1 went in the bottom hatch. Also what size lipo were you using? Thanks so much for sharing!!!

      Battery now goes in through a flip top hatch on top. I used a 3S2200 pack right up the front as far as it would go. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

    Hi , thank you for the video. It would have really useful, if you could show how and where you mounted the ESC, battery and the receiver. I just got mine and wanting to have some advice. Thanks.

      Just mount them with strong velcro. Simple.

    What battery connector type does the ESC want? What battery capacity would you recommend to get about 6 minutes of sport flying out of it?

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      XT60 connector on the included ESC. You need a 3S2200-3000mAh. Optimum is a 2600. Cheers Dom (Essential RC)

    Kind of doggy compared to the .40 - .46 2-stroke nitro vintage Dura Plane Durastik we had in the States years ago. It looked like yours was struggling to takeoff getting off the ground and didn't have any power when it did. Those old OS .40 - .46 2-strokers would have tore off the grass and you could have pulled a violent nearly 90 degree vertical climb straight away. Quiet, easy and "EPA green" isn't always the best answer or solution to the problem. As a Yank we have that luxury to choose and seldom worry about babysitters that say we "can't". We will go ahead and do it anyways!

    thanks for another informative build and flight video!!!.....I recently picked up this exact model and would like to know what control rates you recommend for a beginner like me, as I am currently learning to fly on the Arrows Bigfoot.....also how well does this Ugly Stick handle the wind? ........thanks

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome Gary. The must-do modification for this Ugly Stick is putting a bit of ply on the inside bottom of the fuselage for the two bolts holding the landing gear to screw into. If left unmodified the landing gear will pull out of the foam on the first rough landing. This model is relatively light so would get thrown around quite a bit in anything over 10mph wind for a beginner.

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Recommended rates? I use 3 position rates set at 30%, 60% and 100% with 30% expo on each. As a beginner you will want to be using the lower 30% rate most of the time until you are confident and want more control and flick the switch up to 60%.

    I have the original balsa version of the HK Ugly stick and it flies much nicer than this. I do have a 3536 1450kv motor running 2200 3s batteries. This model being foam seems very floaty and I prefer the balsa one.

  • @FrankDoylezw

    Just bought this and looking forward to turbocharging it a little by putting a 3536 1250kv motor on it with a suitable ESC. Slightly worried that the airframe wouldn't handle the extra power. Interested if anyone has done the same? I've seen people do similar on the balsa version but not sure how this epo one compares.

    • @EssentialRC
      @EssentialRC  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The undercarriage is the weakest point. Epoxy a ply plate inside and screw them into that, preferably with some blind nuts.

    • @FrankDoylezw
      @FrankDoylezw 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EssentialRC Thank you. What thickness ply would you recommend? Assume 2mm would be about right?

    • @EssentialRC

      This wouldn't be my first choice for a high wing model Bret. A Tundra would be much better in all aspects.

      Charlie It was called Ugly Stick by the original designer back in the ‘70’s. The plane and plan were provided in RC Modeler. It was a simple plan and has lasted a long time.
