During the Crappie run here a few months ago, I caught a BIG Gaspergoo (Freshwater Drum) on 4# test and needed a net to pull em up. They are quite tasty!
@@Aronwill75 I LOVE some nice Drum!! Any kind! Gimme Gaspergoo and Reds, Black Drum and Whiting, I’ll even take home a nice Croaker or 3. And don’t dare tempt me with a nice Stingray.
@@Bassassinator Croakers are about all we have in the drum species in Mid Missouri, but I target them specifically! One of the largest and most fun fish to battle on a rod and reel!
You make it look so easy Richard. Learning the habits of fish is the key to absolute success and you have a library of fish habits. You need to write a book and share the infinite wisdom in your head.
Richard is the best bar none. He doesn’t need any technology or fancy. He is a fish catching machine and shows you how. Thank you Richard for continuing your channel….us older farts like it big 😊.
The way RG talks about targeting shellcracker in the winter reminds me of wintertime speckled trout in nc when they stackup in the deepwater back creeks and neighborhoods where the water stays warmer.
Ive been fishing this way a lot this year. And i have to say,,,its the best method to catch fish. Ive caught 4 lb smallmouth on this same rig,,,also caught a few spot and largemouth the same way. Lot of times put a whole nightcrawler on. Thanks for showing us your fishing skills gow you do RGTFM. Best freshwater fisherman on youtube 100%
I'm always amazed how you can hook that worm just by the tip and catch those beauties! I'd have thought they would just steal the bait. You're the master, Richard Gene!
I thought the same thing until I tried it. I think the trick is to let them take it, without resistance, for a few seconds before you set the hook. My only problem has been that they tend to get the hook deeper than I would like. Maybe a bigger hook would help that out..
That was fun, Richard you make it look so easy. Great explanation and I'll see if I have any luck. If I catch half of what you caught Richard it will be successfull. 👍
Thank you for your willingness to share what you know and keeping it simple. I've learned so much from watching your channel and you're a huge inspiration for me. God bless you and your craft.
Those are Redear in Indiana. There's a creek here locally, that the bait and the Redear are there waiting for you. You wade the rocky shallows and get some crawdads. Then walk down stream about 50 yards and catch your fish.
Great video and I was fishing here Oklahoma for some sunfish but I couldn’t find any on the small lake I was fishing. Even hit all the logs and fallen trees and I just couldn’t make them bite my worms.
I got the same kind of reel with high vis line just like that. I really like that setup. Tuesday I'm going to Truman Lake in Missouri to try to bring home some crappie.
I use the same technique in multiple locals. Right down to the eagle claw Goldie's. Carp grasscarp spring time shallow pounder blues. It's an awesome one with the ol crawler hooked once. People gimme a look sometimes too. 😁👍👍👍😄😄😄
Hi Richard Gene the fishing machine I like your fishing videos you catch a lot fish. Hey Richard I have a question um is there way you could take me and my dad fishing cause I’ve been waiting to go fishing but my uncle hasn’t taking me fishing in while. I love fishing and fishing is my favorite like the same as you do
I’ve caught more flathead cats with this setup than I’d care to. Light line and setup - those 3-4 lb cats make a run for cover and somehow know how to twist around limbs and rocks once hooked.
Hey Richard, you sure know your stuff. I have 6 Pflueger President PRESSP20 reels and I love them! Your method for catching shellies is exactly like mine except I use 4 lb Trilene XL in Moss Green. Can't find 2 lb anywhere but online. Nobody carries it down here in Central Florida. When was the last time you ever came back down this way? A few years ago you and I talked and you told me you were from Tampa. I'd be honored to take you out onto the St. Johns and put you in some giants. We can shoot a video while we're at it too. Let me know. Keep these great videos coming and give my warmest regards to Mama Sue and ol Elmo fer me. Ted Marshall Sanford, Florida
That drum reminded me of my first time fishing the Des Moines river in Iowa back in the late 80s. We found a sizeable hole in the river, and I hung into a 5 lb. drum. River fishing is definitely unpredictable!
I was at a private lake earlier today and they won't let anyone use minnows. I was rigging the worm like this and hammered the crappie, bluegill, a few shellcracker, and a few huge bass.
Mr Gene I know you stress the issue on the tackle and the line on every video and you must have a room full of rods and reels and tackle .for the average angler we only have a bait caster and a spinning rod and reel of fishing is a sport second to none just going and enjoying and not stressing over I don't have the equipment Richard has to make me a better fisherman 😢 ,I love your videos all are very educational and entertain .use what you can afford and enjoy for the average joe and younger people.
blahaahhahaha! @ 10:20 he swallowed the hook that's okay cause I'm gonna swallow him. Richard Gene has one of the best since of humors I've ever seen in anyone.
I took a screenshot i wanted to ask you about, but i cant seem to figure out how to add it to the comments. Anyways, I have been watching and learning from you for years. My Son and .other lobe you. I have been bass and crapoie fishing for 30 years. I am currently 40 now.
Hey Richard I see it didn’t take long to get your self a more powerful trolling motor on that 1860. Didn’t take long to find out that the other one wouldn’t cut it. I have a 70 lb motor on mine. I love catching big Shellcrackers too. Back in January I was catching a lot of big Crappie but I can’t figure out to the life of me what happened to them. This lake is only 15 acres and I’ve been all over it . Went there today and it was out of the banks. Like Four or five high and stained. 🤷🏼♂️
people don't understand how impressive landing that drum is. 2lb is pretty light. Richard is a master of his craft.
That could be a line class record

@@Bassassinator I'll take all them trash fish that most people won't eat! Drum is actually a really clean, white meat that fries up quite nicely.

You never fail to put a smile on my face. Thanks, again, brother! 🐟
Shell Daddy 😂 flueger presidents are great for panfish imo. Appreciate you Gene
Hey Rich we need someone like you. Someone who thinks like a fish. I need to have note pad ready when I view your videos. Thanks bro.
Richard, could you make a video cleaning them Shell Cracker?
I LOVE catching Shellcracker Richard!!!! I've been catching some MONSTERS up in shallow coves lately
Thanks Richard. Keep the tips coming, and "go fishin' when ya can - Whoo!"

Whatever fish I’m targeting I play your video and put my air pods in and just fish like I’m with you thanks gramps

They always steal it from me when I hook the bait like that.

You are a FISHING MACHINE, NO DOUBT 👍👍
Keep it coming ✌️
My daddy taught
me the same thing - if the river is high there’s no need to go fishing. Learned something today.
Awesome fishing! Thanx gene!❤

Thank you, Richard.
God bless ya'll.
Man I’m just learning so much from you Richard, I really appreciate these videos.
MR Gene I had a question,,do you ever save Drums for the ivory's.for jewelry's settings,,,Jag of Montana
The fishin' LEGEND Richard Gene, at it again! Great stuff, Rich!

Redear and red breast are actually different fish. Red breast sunfish (shellcracker) are what he is catching.
Redear = Lepomis microlophus / red breast = Lepomis auritus
There is always that one in the crowd that has to correct you. Just overlook him.
Thats awesome u caught that big drum on 2lb line!!! Awesome job Richard Gene!!!!
“That fish right there he swallered it. But that’s okay, imma swaller him” 😂 👍🏻
Ain't nothing wrong with having fun catching Shellcracker 🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨🧨
Love your bream fishing videos!! It’s my favorite year round
Great content Richard. Catching them when most folks would’ve stayed home
I would love for you to do an in-depth class on shellcracker. I would definitely have no problem paying for it.
Dude! That drum might have been a line class record!!!!
Getting my daily dose of RICHARD GENE 😎
Awesome video as always thanks Mr Gene!
Thanks again my friend ❤ Missed you!!! Fun, Fun,!!!!😊
Great video and I was fishing here Oklahoma for some sunfish but I couldn’t find any on the small lake I was fishing. Even hit all the logs and fallen trees and I just couldn’t make them bite my worms.
God bless you Richard and your family
I like the mouth of a creek for shell cracker the current seam were bugs worms and such are getting washed out they’ll stack up. Easy pickings
I got the same kind of reel with high vis line just like that. I really like that setup. Tuesday I'm going to Truman Lake in Missouri to try to bring home some crappie.

Thanks Richard mmay God bless you.
Hello Sir ,Another AWESOME video. Wooo 👍👍👍👍Stay safe and Keep’em coming. WOOOOO
RGTFM please please again show us how you fillet and mama sue fries them crackers. Please woooo💪👍✌️
I’ve heard you can glob the night crawler on the hook and fish it on the bottom where it resembles a snail that shellcracker eat.
I concur Shellcracker and bluegill are my favorite fish to eat!
really enjoyed good job Gene
Mr Gene, what do you look for in the spring and summer to catch them
Love your videos. Where you get your fox tail jigs?
Do you farm your own crawlers? Love watching you fish Gene.
Great info Mr Gene RTR

if richard gene made his on pan fish jigs id buy that shit up.
I’ve caught more flathead cats with this setup than I’d care to. Light line and setup - those 3-4 lb cats make a run for cover and somehow know how to twist around limbs and rocks once hooked.
Them Ol gaspergoo are some good eating
I love fishing for chinquapin. Thanks for the video! It'll satisfy my cabin fever til I get out in the kayak next week :)
Awesome, thanks for the video.
I am wondering how you freeze or keep fish fresh to eat later. I freeze mine in a gallon freezer bag with the air mashed out.
Put the fillets in the bag, fill the bag with enough water to cover the fillets so they are not exposed to air and freeze. Freeze in water
Richard looking to move to the Muscle Shoals or Huntsville area. Any suggestions
what size hook are you using mostly for shell cracker Mr. Gene?
When do bluegill usually start bedding at pickwick. I want to wear them out also lol.
Another her great video, your the best

Excellent eating fish and they are a lot of fun. That was a HUGE Gasper Gou on a bream hook and two-pound test line.
I am amazed that with 2LB test you can set the hook so hard. What 2LB test line do you recommend for crappie and sunfish fishing?
Thanks for sharing. I have had several president reels and the handle lost its paint.
I love my Pfueger President reels!
Hey Richard, you are a blessing brother, Thankyou so much for all you do .......>
Great video!!!
Do you know the water temperature ty God Bless you as well
My favorite fish!!!
Does this situation also apply to a lake or reservoir?
Let’s see some pre spawn bass action I need some tips
Love the Videos my brother!
Can you do a Temu challenge please love to see you do a video like that
An awesome lesson on targeting fish in what many consider adverse conditions. Wonderful video as always Sir.
Good one Richard
That drum reminded me of my first time fishing the Des Moines river in Iowa back in the late 80s. We found a sizeable hole in the river, and I hung into a 5 lb. drum.

Love ur shell vids I tried ur technique and caught a monster 2in in back but I only caught 1 do they school together
Try crickets too. I have better luck with crickets
Great video , Im surprised no one has"nt come after you because they say your fishing in there spot! Or you can"t fish here your not a member !
fine skills, sir
I was at a private lake earlier today and they won't let anyone use minnows. I was rigging the worm like this and hammered the crappie, bluegill, a few shellcracker, and a few huge bass.
Mama Sue try Italian breadcrumbs after frying sprinkle with garlic salt
Gene, you sure do keep your fish out of the water for a good while before releasing it. I wonder how many live after being out of the water so long.
I have the exact same setup
thats a helluva drum on 2 pound line
What size is that boat? I like your setup
Shellcracker heads sure make a good catfish bait!

Maybe record drum on 2lb line?! Nice 👍🏼
