  • The kids managed to kick a football up and break off the solar panel for this security light. I didn't want to throw it out, could I save it? Yup. If you have something similar and a soldering iron you can do the same. Whole process took about 25 mins. Although it was sitting in the garage for over a month!

Stay wire!🤣 Very relatable. But flux has come into my life, and it turns out solder listens to it, and not my exasperated shouts😤
I bought a solder gun at a garage sale, and it game with a little tub of paste flux. I don't even use the solder gun, but the flux is almost gone!

Nice one, mate! What annoys me about many of these devices is the lack of spare parts. I have a couple of solar lights on which both solar cells died, just out of warranty. Can't replace just the panels, supplier says to just chuck it and buy new, even though the batteries, circuitry and LEDs are perfectly fine. I had to buy some similar sized solar cells and do a hack to make them fit, but they work. Right to repair, hmmmm. I wish the companies that make and sell these could be held accountable for creating unnecessary e-waste. Good to see that there are like-minded people like you and I that will repair the thing instead of chucking it into the tip. Just a tip, use a plastic spudger or cheap guitar pick to prise the plastic parts, not a metal screwdriver. And get a magnetic tray for your screws so you don't lose them 🤣

Nice tips! didnt think of a plectrum!
I'll add a magnetic tray to my birthday list. The number of orphaned screws on my floor is nearing 17.

I've found that generally when these solar lights go out, its because of the super cheap rechargeable cell and solar panel they use with them. I found some slightly upgraded solar chargers on amazon and replaced several of mine after they died. One of my lights would run a few hours after dark, now it's still on in the morning. I think a 2 pack was about $15.

Nice job. Bet that was satisfactory. What kind of rating were the upgraded ones?
