- First look at the 2013 Dodge Dart. (R/T Trim Level Shown)
Engines for the 2013 Dart include a base 2.0-liter four-cylinder, mid-level 1.4-liter turbo four with MultiAir technology, and a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine for top of the line trim. Six-speed manual, auto or dual-clutch transmission will be available and a nine-speed will be available at a later date.
The 2013 Dart will debut at the 2012 Detroit Auto Show, and arrive at your Dodge showroom later this year. Expect more info on the 2013 Dodge Dart to be announced soon.
Tony, that must have been so cool! Were they putting then through the paces and running hard? I've heard and seen that 1.4 intercooled turbo run hard and it was really cool!
This car is awesome .. The top end engine is a multi-valve 2.4 liter with 185 horsepower ... Very solid; feels like a V6 on the highway. The big meaty tire package (for this size car) really helps, too, and is something you don't see on the Japanese subcompacts ... which usually drive on little donuts.
My grandfather owned a late 60's Dart, which was sold sometime before we tore down his garage and built a new one. If only he were alive to witness the current generation.
Actually, my uncle is planning on getting one. Tony, congrats on your future purchase! You will not be disappointed, my friend. That 1.4 intercooled turbo160hp by FIAT (used in the 500 Abartth and by Alfa) is a technological gem! Also, FIAT's double dry clutch will really complement the engine. I am counting the days to give the Dart a test drive. The local dealer was very impressed with it as well...
Finally!! Finally we are getting a car that we were hoping a collaboration between FIAT (Alfa Romeo) and Chrysler!! Finally there will be a car in the Chrysler lineup that has been missing for so long!! Built on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta platform with some Alfa Romeo interior and some hot FIAT engines and FIAT components. I have been both a Chrysler Dodge and Jeep owner as well as FIAT and Alfa Romeo owner. I have driven the FIATs the past years in Italy and their products are very impressive.
Cant wait to see what the SRT4 Dart will look like because this already looks amazing
Absolutely! It's already a well proven car with a platform of a car and a drivetrain that has been in production for years. That's a jump in the right direction!
Yes I do. The Ford Focus is (or was) an American version of the Toyota Corolla in terms of the majority of people who bought one, the group they were designed for, and what options were available upon purchase.
Most likely, Tony. Alfa Romeo already has had an optional 235 hp 1.8 turbo in the Giulietta lineup for a while now. It will be very easy to hit hit that 300 hp and more engine power mark in the upcoming Dart models...especially with involvement from FIAT/Alfa and the multiair and other technologies courtesy of the Italians.
@CatcherOfBass My dealer said the production Darts are coming in June. However, you never know what may have been circulating as testers like the FIAT 500s were before they were offered. It would be really cool to see a car being road tested before offered.
Hope this has the handling of my 02 neon r/t, couldn't ask for a more fun car to drive (for the price). I'm excited to test drive one of these.
My dad used to have a 1973 Dodge Dart Sedan V8 in the Philippines . It was amazing .
They do! The 160hp 1.4 turbo is just one of the engines. There is also a 2 liter 160 hp Tigershark engine and a 184 hp Tigershark MultiAir engine as well. Before you keep with the LOL-ing, keep in mind this a not a very heavy car so that level of power goes far.
@ItsMeLonelyLol Yes, you are correct! It's nice that the other Tigershark engine uses FIAT's multiair technology as well. I just like the idea that unlike the thinking of old where you know the base engines of certain cars were horrible, the new Dart has an awesome 1.4 turbo that not only offers great mileage, but high performance as well.
Couple of things i'm going to do with my B2000 is a v8 engine swap. Hopefully I won't have to do the typical LSX swap, but I would very much like to use the V8 from an '04 SVT Cobra. And I'm with you on the sedans. Like I said I'm saving up for a B2000 but right now I'm driving around in my friends 2003 Oldsmobile Aurora with the 4.0L Northstar. I recently found out that the factory subs hit hard enough to rattle the trunk lol
I haven't read up on this car. Is it suppose to be more sportier than the Focus and Cruze?
@BumbleBeeGS No available turbo? Then what's the SRT/4?
Do you know exactly why they didnt use the Guilietta exterior design?
People are only disliking this car because of the name...had they named it the dodge neon people would be giving it the credit it deserves. Looks awesome!
With the Cruze, Fushion and the Dart the American car manufacturers are really stepping up their game.
fwd? awd? rwd? i must know? and is there going to be a srt verison? 2.4L turbo??
This car looks amazing...I can't wait to own it....
Cool bean! I wasn't the only one that noticed this car looked like a redesigned Dodge Neon.
Over here in the United States, the Dart will be available around June. So, it has been mainly Korean and Japanese cars in the compact car and area. However, now, even Ford and GM are offering compact cars here. So, although it is nothing new in Europe, the gas price escalation has now hit the USA (the home of big cars) and is starting to affect the size of cars offered and going into production. The Dart will be a pleasant surprise because many are not familiar with FIAT/Alfa products.
Actually with some slight exterior modification and in black rather than red, it will lok pretty damn sharp!! I would not mind driving one of these. It in fact fills the void the Dodge Neon had left. Great Job Dodge!!! :D
1:34 it took the corner really smooth... i like it
@wonderbreadkw ,they did already, Ford/Mercury with the Mercury Cougar (8th generation1999-2002) and Chevrolet with the Nova (5th generation, 1985-1988) What would be next??? a moped named Dodge Superbee?
As far as FIATs, my 1971 124 Sport Coupe was a great car. I drove it 155k miles and for a car built in 1971 it did okay. It was packed with performance. I kept the Ferrari red paint gleaming as it was a head turner. The ultimate handling was the best aspect of driving the dual webber, 1600cc FIAT 124 SC on a flat slalom race course. The ergonomics of the cockpit was designed such that racing by each cone was effortless with low C of G I think Dodge Dealers should set up some orange co
My God ! this thing ROCKS compared with the Caliber! I REALLY like it !!
@NJStormSpotter it comes availible with 3 engines 2.0, 1.4 turbo, and 2.4
I just have to ask...How about the SRT-4 trim?
Si,GTI, Nismo, RS, MazdaSpeed want something to play with.
Our first car when my husband and I were married wa a 1969 Fodge Dart. I reallylove the looks of the new Dodge Dart even though it isnt a muscle car. This looks awesome.
Adam, it's a shame that Alfa Romeo doesn't have their current lineup of cars in USA for people to experience. However, some models may be coming soon. Believe it or not, one of the most impressive things I've experienced with Alfa the past decade was their turbo diesel engines. My cousins in Italy have had them in their Alfas. They were smooth, quiet, powerful, with torque that was amazing. The Dart will offer the 160 hp 1.4 turbo found in the Giulietta.
This looks a bit like the current Focus and the Elantra (which makes sense, given the market), and it's understated with the Dodge-isms like the grille and the taillights. If the build quality is up to snuff they should do pretty well with this.
The Alfa Romeo Giulietta (the car the Dart is based on) is a 4 door. However, the Dodge Dart Rallycross racer was converted as a 2-door.
@Turbosaunderground You mean good work FIAT, right?
It's an Alfa Romeo Giulietta with boot.
@DougCameraMan I think the blacked out front end is a special modle, like what they did for the charger srt
@TheTallMan35 Yeah, I guess you're right! : ) As for the re-badging, the Dart is based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta platform and has some components and there are FIAT powertrain options, but it's far from being a re-badging. Compare the two and see...
When did the dart pass by?only saw that red thing....
@28CarsLater Yes, you are correct. It helps for GM to own Opel and those are the convenient results. I remember a while back riding in a friends Opel Omega and it eventually became rebadged as the Cadillac Catera over here. Anyway, the Opels I've experienced were nice cars.
This Alfa Romeo is exactly what Dodge needs! Beautiful looking sedan should sell on looks alone.
Desiderius,my dad had a 1963 Dodge Dart GT, which came with the upgraded 225 cid slant six. And that was the big engine offered that first year for the compact car. Not exactly a "muscle car." This car slots right into the same niche that the old car filled, 50 years ago. I think it's kinda fun that they've resurrected the old Dart name, although this could have just as well been called Neon.
I like this car...I am not a Dodge fan, but I really like it... in white or silver color, perhaps charcoal grey would be awesome!! Love the inside and outside style!
that'd be awesome if they did an SRT. i would fall in love with this car
the rakish roofline reminds me of a volt/prius. its a good looking car as an ICE powered car, but I wonder if they'll ever have a hybrid or ev version.
I'll tell you a few reasons why you didn't see a V-6. First, the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, the car the Dart is based on, doesn't offer 6 cylinder. Alfa offers 1.4 liter turbo 4 cylinder engines ranging from 135-170hp, a 235 hp 1.8 turbo, and a 140hp 2.0 diesel. All engines are 4 cylinders. Dodge also offers other 4 cylinder engines for the Dart as well without affecting weight balance and mpg. The old Darts had inline, slant 6s, not V-6s.
pretty awesome but why the kia forte body??
@ndawg79 the only car that looks like this in the front is the 2012 charger srt8. that becuase its a dart. the chargers compact alternative. this is 2012 they put a 4 cylinder in the car to make it more fuel efficent. after all, gas prices are rising all the time.
@cu29640 That's the idea. It's built on the Giulietta platform, offers some nice drivetrains, yet the car looks like a modern day Dodge. I think this is a very good start.
@PaulinhosmBR The original was sold mostly with a 140-170 HP Slant 6.... the 4 Cylinders make more than that...By the way the Original Dar was a Compact Car...
looks amazing in and out
Only four cylinder engines ? What happened with the V8 ?
On the contrary, the original Dart was an entry-level compact (for the time); and that is exactly what this car is. The original "muscle-car" Darts were higher priced models, as are the higher end models of this. Those original, antiquated, dinosaur, gas guzzling monsters of the past - I loved 'em, too.
Honda's old body/frame?
(1.4 liter Turbo MultiAir) Fiat's engine?
interior is pretty sick if check it out on the actual dodge site, buying this in 2013
I wasn't even talking mechanically. Are you going to deny the similarity between the Viper/Intrepid/Stratus and this Dart? I think it's fairly prevalent, specifically in the headlights and of course, the crosshair grille.
@BumbleBeeGS True that! Very sharp looking little ride. They should've just called it a Neon.
@MrBingping What's next?...2013 Chevrolet Monza?...2013 Ford Granada?
I'm a proud owner of a 2011 charger but I must say that this car is so cool . It's a mini me charger Lololo . It's definitely not for me but I definitely see a market for this little guy . I love the charger tail lights in the back . Very good job dodge . It's about time you started pushing fuel efficient cars . I just wish we would have started 20 years ago . 😃
Will there be a 340 six pack option?
How many have you owned and how many current ones have you driven lately? I've owned FIATs and Alfa Romeos and I drive them on my trips in Italy. Now that you know my side, I want to hear from your personal experiences driving Italian cars of the past few years and why you think they are horrible...especially the ones that are European cars of the year. We're listening...
I really do like what Dodge has been doing with the taillights on their cars.
SRT version with a 2.4 Turbo like the Neon replacement, maybe AWD. Would give the Evo/STi a run for its market!
@SNOWMASTER1TV It's actually not a rebranded Scirocco. You might wanna' look again.
im in love. honestly might trade in my 2010 300 limited for this.
Beautiful design, good work Dodge!
@lozoft9 I can't agree more. FIAT was the best thing for Chrysler. Now, as a former Jeep owner and enthusiast, I can only hope that FIAT turbo diesels will be powering Jeeps and the current powertrains get reconsidered as well...
does it come with a turbo diesel hybrid?
The dart was considered to be a compact car for its day, we call it a muscle car because of the era. I think this car is a good modern verision.
@teshtesh I agree with you i'd like the look better and think it'd fit more if it was the neon replacement.
@ratbat53 That may be more of a reality than you think. Although the Dart base engine is a 1.4 liter 160 hp turbo, there could be much more to come. There is a powerplant used in the Alfa Romeo Giulietta (the car the Dart is based on) that is a 1.8 liter 235 hp turbo. In Europe, the Giulietta with that engine goes 150 mph. I could see a Demon R/T version being powered by that gem of an engine. Vroooom!!!
Should've just called it a Neon! It looks like one. But it's a SWEET looking ride!
I stand corrected. They should use a similar size v8 that's used in the Ariel Atom V8. 3.0L V8 with 500 hp.
@alchoholicsementhful Agreed. There are improvements needed in the lineup. The Challengers and Chargers should get some weight reductions ASAP. I've read many reviews about the Challenger feeling like "a heavy car." Not to make a direct comparison, but the Camaro and Mustang V-6 models have great performance figures. Not only are they hot 6s with 300+ hp, but the cars are lighter in general. Can't go wrong there.
The nine speed sounds nice
Does anyone here know what the compact car class is? It does NOT include V-8 engines under the hood. Wow!
I know I want one but I'm going to wait for the inevitable SRT4 version.
Did he say people buy this car to race? You must feel great driving such a powerful 5 mpg car in a country with speed limit on every single corner. You are very intelligent.
Where was the Dart? I just saw a Chevy Volt with Dodge emblems on it.
@NightmareMX6 You mean the grille?
there's no need to deny that they all have a plus in front in their cars
Charger rear end, elantra front?
I know exact;y where this was taken at. Nashville, TN at Shelby Park. Use to walk right through that same area. Nice!
Whatever happened to the slant 6? That was a reliable engine.
i see a lot of test cars around my area before production everynow and then a good concept. but i live in the middle of nowhere. so its quite possible you have
great looking mini Charger....
@Vizery85 I can understand your disappointment. When I heard rumors of a Chrysler or Dodge for the US based on the Alfa Romeo Giulietta, I was very excited. I thought we were going to get a Chrylser/Dodge badged Alfa Romeo like what Lancia got rebadging Chyslers for Europe. I too, would rather have a pure 100% Alfa, but this is a great start of having an Alfa platform car with a FIAT drivetrain option. No too shabby after all...
wheres the 440 at?
I meant Alfa not Alpfa. The two door 1967-1973 Dodge Dart was definately a classic, clean and handsome car worthy of a retro look or at least the badge brought back as Chrysler has done for 2013. Looking forward to seeing it up close.
That's kind of the idea. Dodge designed the panels and trim to look like a Dodge, especially the Challenger back, so it fits in the Dodge lineup. Yes, it has FIAT influence, but the body is Dodge.
They should do what you suggested, and fine tune it on the nurburgring. I'll buy one and swap the Atom V8 engine into it lol. That motor, with a rally setup, would be one of the greatest cars ever built. Like a Mopar version of the Rallycross Ford Fiesta :D
I think those wheels are the R/T wheels If you can get someone to pull some strings maybe you can get them
Wow, looks just like the old one!
You too and thank you!
@alessandrozerbone
No the black bar below the grill. Part of the bumper that is painted black.
Dart, starting in 1960, was meant to be a fuel efficient Compact car. Only during the Muscle Era was when they tried to cram a 340 in it, even then, it was a poor performing car muscle wise. When the era pretty much ended in 1974, fuel efficiency was still the goal. It ended with the 1975 "Feather Duster"(get it?) achieving 32 MPG. If you want a muscle car true to the name- buy a new Challenger or a 300 (yes they came in four door back in the day) This Dart deserves the name.
the way the front lights reach the radiator is like the VW new models
join me in a round of applause, as we welcome back to the stage, the dodge neon!
Gotcha. I'm not that big on economy cars, but I prefer the custom scene when it comes to cars. Me for instance, I'm saving up for a 1987 Mazda B2000 so I can be part of the Mini Trucking scene, custom suspension, audio system etc.
@cenafan741 It's supposed to fill in the same missing slot in the Dodge lineup, however, it's supposed to offer much more and not look like a 60s era econo-box.
