Mortal Online 2 is a massive open world sandbox MMORPG with a ton of PvE and PvP content and a lot of promise. It released in January 2022 with some big server issues, but has had many updates and improvements since then and is in a much better state going into 2023. I believe it's currently one of the best MMORPGs available right now, and explain why in this video, as well as discuss what Mortal Online 2 is and the features it offers, and how it's changed since its initial release. It's not only a game for PvP - it actually has a ton of challenging and really well designed PvE elements and this is all discussed in this video. This is truly a hidden gem that will only increase massively in popularity in the near future, especially with its upcoming content including a game engine upgrade to Unreal Engine 5, Territory Control, Sieging, and much more!
While people are looking for new MMORPGs to play and focused on Throne and Liberty, Ashes of Creation, New World, WoW Dragonflight, the Riot MMO, Archeage 2 and others, a pretty new true hardcore sandbox MMORPG is here and has been improving steadily with a huge, thriving community and player base all enjoying the game, and that's Mortal Online 2. The game has exceeded expectations of many and is currently one of the best MMORPG games available both for PvP and PvE players, with a very promising future!
So, from the words of the developers themselves, what is Mortal Online 2?
Mortal Online 2 is a next generation first-person MMORPG in a fantasy setting.
In Mortal Online there are no PvP zones, only an open realistic world where you are free to choose your own path. Experience true real-time combat where you decide every move your character makes and where your personal skill really matters.
Build your own house, or set up a guild to build a keep. With enough power, violence or diplomacy, you and your allies will be able to rule an entire nation.
Choose from many different races and professions. You decide your own style of playing and whether to focus on PvP or PvE, both sharing the same game world. Devote your life to crafting, combat, magic or trading. Discover new skills, tools and resources. Or be the first to explore new areas to put your name on the map.
Mortal Online is not like other MMOs. In Mortal Online any player can at any point attack another player and take everything they own. This makes every encounter with another player a dangerous affair that could result in great loss. It also greatly increase the importance of having strong allies by your side or a powerful guild to back you up.
Mortal Online 2 features an action-based first person combat system. There is no tab-targeting or auto attacks. In Mortal Online 2 the player’s skill really matters and a skilled player will often defeat a player with better equipment. All the combat in Mortal Online 2 works this way regardless if your are wielding a bow, sword or use your mind to cast powerful spells.
Mortal Online 2 is set in the great world Nave. The first continent players will enter is called Myrland and is a boiling pot of different biomes ranging from cold snowy mountains to big open sand fields. Myrland is massive in size and filled incredible resources to find and dangerous dungeons to explore. All rendered is stunning detail using Unreal Engine 4.

People keep pointlessly hating on this game because it forced PVP and demand for PVP to be optional while failing to realize the game literally wouldn't function properly without forced PVP. I mean I don't even PVP that much in the game myself I mostly just tame creatures gather ore and make weapons all day but even I realized this game wouldn't survive 1 week as a PVE only game. There isn't enough PVE content, nothing to drive demand, and zero reason to use 99.99% of the items/skills in the game without PVP, asking for PVP to be disabled or optional is like asking for SV to delete their game.

I feel steam's extremely limited return policy really hurts games like this.
It's the type of game where you need many hours to experience anything at all, so paying up-front for something potentially very broken or un-fun and no realistic chance to return it by the time you know whether you like it or not is a real deal breaker.

Yeah well, like basically everything IRL. House, car, any goods really. That's why peoples test and play this game, drive the cars etc. Basically giving you feedbacks without the risk of wasting money. Tho I get what you're saying about Mortal time sink and niche gameplay.
I watched a lot from Mortal 2 when it came out. Decided to wait until it gets better. Then like two weeks ago, I checked the game again, after Pax Dei release didn't convince me. I'm having a good time in Mortal rn, even if I only got 30 hours as for now. Joined a guild even before character creation and I can see myself play this game at my pace for many months if not years.
I like how they tended to the game. And I like the niche gameplay even if its got its fair share of issues, clunkiness etc. There's not many game like it. If none. I really got a modern first person Ultima online feeling. (Yeah yeah, UO is more complete and more polished all around, but you get the idea).

I recently had a steppe horse that I needed to sell urgently because my stable was full and I didn't want the horse anymore. So I stood outside the tavern entrance and did a yell if anyone was interested in buying it for 5 gold. Less than 10 seconds later a random player came up to me and passed me 5 gold, I got off my horse and traded it to them in return. It surprised me because I didn't think that it would sell, and so quickly at that.

Selling horses is how I first started making money... in more remote towns like Bakti they sell for 5 to 7 gold per low level horse... not bad money at the start. If you get herding skill you can bring back 3 or 4 horses at a time from the spawn.

What i find very sus is them just going "this will have subscription later" on steam without actually saying how much. So I can basically play it now and then in year they decide on some arbitrary sum and if I don't want to pay that they basically take my game hostage. It's like someone you don't trust just going "you owe me" without specifing what or when.

All the negative publicity is due to how SV handled the first game in regards to player staff relations. There were corrupt GMS who had personal accounts and stakes in the game, as well as just ridiculously unprofessional types making a mess of the game world while using the GM tools rather on purpose or inadvertently. Tons of dupes which mucked up the economy on several different occasions. And possibly worst of all the bugs, the horrible bugs which were never corrected and some even persisted into MO2.
So those returning veterans of MO1 after being promised the world of MO2 and seeing that it completely flopped on launch because SV couldn't provide server capacity for the 8k concurrent players (and still cannot not provide capacity for even 2.5k players concurrently) are somewhat objective towards the game. For those players it was like they made all the promises and hype and just completely lied to them for a second time.

I have read comments saying that you cant play solo, that you will be killed by group of other players all the time, but you mentioned there is bounty hunters but NPC bounty hunters to avoid free assasinations or players that collect the bounty? that bounty system prevents that people just kill you all the time?

    • @alexpirelli3980
      @alexpirelli3980 ปีที่แล้ว +2

You will get killed often as a solo player, that much is true. Bounty Hunter exists: you pay 1G to an NPC and get a contract that allows you to kill a murderer player (anyone with 5+ murder counts). Then you can buy birds that will tell you the estimated location of your target (1000 kilometers east, for example).
So the idea is great: you set yourself out in the world, fully equipped, and use birds now and then to zero in on the location of your bounty.
The issue is: you will usually cross with groups along the way, and when you find your target, the chances he or she is alone is close to zero.
So, all of this to say: playing solo is hardly viable if you want to do any form of PvP, Bounty Hunting included.

    • @BullCashish
      @BullCashish  ปีที่แล้ว +1

Hey Star Buck, it's players themselves who can become bounty hunters and take on contracts to kill criminal players. Criminal players can still continue to be criminals but they'll have a much harder time doing so when bounty hunter players look for them, and need to watch out a lot more. It doesn't completely stop players from being criminals and murdering others a lot, but it does help deter them, and there are other systems in place that add to that. Hope this helps clear things up a bit!

    • @starbuck3980
      @starbuck3980 ปีที่แล้ว +2

The only reason I never bought and played it, is because it's First Person Melee, and should be Third Person instead!
All First Person Melee games, and obviously this one as well, are lacking the depth comparison between your character height, arm length, weapon size, which better indicate where you will be striking your hits on enemies.
Which is exactly why every First Person Melee game ever created and or played, has the player lunging their character forwards and backwards all weird and clunky...
It's a terrible Melee experience where you constantly question whether or not you are going to hit your target or not because you can't really tell the distance properly, so it's just clunky and very unrealistic, and looks ridiculous as well as a result...
If the game had Third Person Melee Combat, and First Person Ranged Combat, there would be an overwhelming number of people playing this game right now, and would still be a fair amount of people that will stay after they start charging their monthly subscription fees.
Just to be fair, I would pay up to around the $100 mark for the game if it had Third Person Melee, but I wouldn't actually continue to play the game if a monthly subscription fee was charged, even if the initial game and a free month were free. My days of paying subscriptions for games ended over 10 years ago, and will never be a thing I will ever be involved in again, sorry...
I'm also uninterested in any games that sell anything that has to do with making it easier to play their game, or give any sort of advantage at all. I get the whole making money thing, but I refuse to pay more than $99 for a game, and if I do purchase a game, I expect to experience the entire game that I purchased, along with every single piece of content that was coded into the game that I purchased, without being asked for more money after! I will pay for expansions to the game, if they are worth what they are charged, but I won't be a part of the leaking of peoples funds over time for a game that was purchased and paid for in order to play, or offering things that I can't earn in game unless I pay extra money for them! Nope...
Ark and games like that have private servers, and official ones you can play on, so it's not necessary to charge a subscription for people to have to play on your dedicated servers, and rely on the game company to deal with the constant cheaters and scammers. I get that all of that costs money to maintain, but I can and would rather handle who I allow on my game servers my self, instead of paying a subscription fee monthly.
Anyway, the Third Person Melee vs First Person Melee is factual, but the rest is all just my personal opinions and how I roll...
    Edit:
I should probably explain that by Third Person Melee, I'm in no way talking about crappy click to move, or tab targeting garbage...
I'm only referring to backing the camera up about 3 feet behind the character model, and raising it a foot.
Without the characters body in view to help compare against, the depth perception sucks.

What actually tends to happen is such changes alienate the original PvP player base. And then they don't manage to hold onto the PvE players because the game wasn't designed with them in mind from the ground up. Merely modified to give them some accommodation after the fact.
The problem is from any angle it's hard to retrofit a game in order to expand appeal. Target audience tends to be baked into design.

    • @The1Helleri
      @The1Helleri ปีที่แล้ว

@@gregs9210 The two that immediately come to mind are New World and Life is Feudal MMO.
New world changed its direction almost entirely from Open world full loot PvP to PvP optional level gated, before beta even. Now, New World has not failed (yet anyway). But it's had a lot of early issues it's needed to overcome. Some of which was due to sheer incompetency on Amazon's part. But a large chunk of it was down to making a lot of changes to a game that was fundamentally designed around full loot PvP. It shows that it's not impossible to do that. But it is hard. Even with the work put into fixing it, they're still down from peak players and slow leaking.
Life if Feudal MMO Showed just how hard it is. That game didn't survive. There were plenty of performance issues. But they were making clear progress on fixing that. What did it in was things like reworking managed resources into a PvE trading wet dream and nerfing PvP in almost every conceivable way. They alienated their core and then the PvE players that remained got bored because it wasn't very good as a PvE game. The official reason given was legal conflict with their publisher. But the writing was on the wall long before the final nail was driven into that particular coffin.
But it isn't either figure your shit out or fail in this - I agree - very niche genre. Most never leave early alpha before they manage to drive off their player base or screw the pooch otherwise. Such as Divergence or Population Zero.
There are even those that become brown dwarfs. Microscopic player bases with huge and stagnant sandbox worlds. Sure full loot open world PvP. But good luck either finding anyone to fight or finding anyone to fight/raid. These would be games like Wurm Online. There's actually a lot of these out there. Their usually cheap or free and technically online/playable. But just no significant population to speak of. Someone is just keeping the lights on for those few players still there for it.
Now I can think of one game that started out full loot open world pvp with no level restrictions on gear or who could attack who. There was a toggle for PvE and PvP but it stopped working after 2 uses so players got stuck as being PvE or PvP (most as the latter). That game made some massive changes in the first year of release, became wildly successful, and is pretty much completely unrecognizable from what it started as at this point. That game being Runescape. Of course, it stopped being in that category by even a stretch with the most recent changes to the wilderness. You can argue that it never was in that genre. But I guarantee you, that you are not prepared for that argument, and I will win.

This review is too glowing for MO2... I get it, new concept for a lot of people... Looks amazing, has a completely different gameplay to other MMORPG's... But thats just not true, this is Mortal Online 1 LITE HD. They basically are STILL porting features from the first game...
The only difference is that Mortal Online 1 actually had a TC system and building system... The game was feature complete... The world wasnt astronomically huge making the game have hotspots... The world didnt feel empty and in a lot of cases completely unfinished...
Mortal Online 2 is not innovative... or fresh... or new... its an old concept that failed because we didnt have the tech and the dev's didnt keep the community involved enough...
Now they are trying again and this time they have the tech to accomplish the goal, but are falling on their face by "releasing" or whatever you wanna call it... WAY too early. If the dev's had given this game another 1-2 years before saying it was "done"... it would of been amazing - even if it only had the core features, like TC and Combat.
I gave them benefit of the doubt when the game came out... I sat in queues for days... I finally got in, got to play...
After a few days I realized how incomplete the game was... So many areas are devoid of life... Have no purpose for being there... After running around, its like variety of mobs is so limited... and they spawn in clumps in certain areas... Just pull up the mortal map and you'll see what I am talking about. And this was something they said they didnt want... they wanted mobs to naturally drift and wander... and spread out... But the server tech isnt able to simulate stuff when you arent there... so when the server starts everything clumps until a player is in the vicinity.
A lot of gear and crafting components make no sense to be in the game... Its fun when you're trying stuff out but like... eventually you realize the best materials for gear and 90% of the other stuff in the game is pointless... and thats if you didnt follow a guide, most people follow guides and just skip to the right stuff. Which make these areas far less populated because why would anyone but a noob go there who doesnt know?
Dungeons... pointless... Well most of them, because of risk vs reward... Some places require 10 people, then when you split it down its far less efficient than solo content. So then people try to 1-3 man areas... to increase the profitability, but were talking minor increases in profit over just farming razorback or something...
And this is just like typical bullshit for an MMORPG... this doesnt include performance issues... bugs... glitches... things that are just absent from the game... skillbooks you can learn that cant be used... stats that get added that dont do anything... I mean seriously the con list is a million miles long...
The only fun aspect of the game is the combat... but that is a rare occurrence. And when it does happen you tend to be in a situation you cant win... So you have to join a guild, which has no purpose other then to give you numbers to go find random fights... This is Mordauh but with no progression or rhyme or reason for doing the fighting.
I have been following the updates... and I will probably go back someday... but that will be AFTER they add the god damn Territory Control. The main feature of MO that is non-existent currently.
To anyone looking to play this game... Just know that after you build your character (which will take a long time, so its not like it isnt content I guess), you will be doing nothing except random skirmishes or planned PvP events between guilds.

I'm sad that I can't refund the game now, but if you enjoy constantly getting ganked by bored pvp players looking to steal your 2 gold worth of loot then be my guest, be ready to say goodbye to that sweet horse that you've bought or tamed (I've already said goodbye to 8, and I left the tutorial area 3 days ago), and also be ready to say goodbye to that sweet armor and weapon that you've bought by carefully farming the heavily guarded areas.
There is no decent quest system and the world is 3/4 empty tundra and forest, features are half baked and the combat is so plain and boring, those user's made "villages" are plain boring bought asset houses or castles (or at least they look like it).
So again, if you enjoy wasting time and money (real and in game gold) to just let it go to ashes because the only players that stayed since the beginning keep patrolling the common paths looking for new players who don't know better to kill (I once had 4 players following me, no chance with my just tamed horse with no armor, had to say goodbye to those hours spent finding crumbs of moolah to buy a single book to deliver to a friend, and that hour running through empty fields to find that single spawn of horses) then go ahead and spend your money, but remember that probably within a year (if it doesn't shut down before that) it'll go pay to play for 15$ per month.

We cannot ignore the very large red flag: they never finished/fixed their first title. They quite literally gave up, made the second one, and released it knowing it was not finished. This studio is a joke, I challenge any of you to go into the discord and have a real conversation with their community manager. Also the community is not as 'willing' to help ad you think. The guides on yt quite literally tell you do not get this game, wait to see if they finish it. This game compared to other risk reward games lacks any kind of comeback mechanic. This pretty much gives you the chance to rebuild any gear you lost. So when you get killed by a zerg of 4 or 5 people, then you start back to zero. Also lag is still an issue and theres no queue because this games player base floats around 500 players. Looking purely on their track record, this studio is not the kind you trust

I'll start by saying I didn't like this video because it seemed like paid propaganda instead of unbiased analysis. For the most part, the video states what the game wants to deliver, not what is currently capable of doing.
That being said, there are several pieces of false or misleading information in your comment.
      1) Star Vault, the development meant studio is not a joke, at all. They are an open capital company in Sweden. They have stocks, they are audited, and as far as you can trust Sweden's regulator and fiscal authorities, they are an honest company. So, you may not like what they create, calling them a joke or untrustworthy company is a very different thing.
      2) By design, Mortal Online (the original game and the MO2) will never be finished. The plan is to continually add content and expand. MO ran for more than ten years (charging a 15usd subscription with all its major issues), and then SV decided the next step in the evolution required a massive overhaul, which is now MO2.
      3) Not sure what you meant by going into Discord, but you definitely should. Go there and talk with Robmo, the Community Leader, he is a great guy 😄 Beyond that, you can jump into the weekly Wednesday streams and ask questions to the CEO himself. Good luck finding another company that provides that.
      4) Not sure which full loot games you play, but MO2 has one of the least punitive systems out there. When you die, you "only" lose what you are wearing and your inventory, you don't lose any skill points or experience, and most importantly, you don't lose your bank. Adding to that, the majority of the resources are easily obtainable even for solo players, and the game is not solo-friendly. So no, you don't start from zero after you die. After you learn to wear only what is worth the risk you will incur, you actually start to accumulate gear and gold rather quickly.
      5) The player base is currently around 1000 at pretty much every hour of the day (around 800 between 3 am and 5 am EST). This requires somewhere between 5K to 10K, depending on how you want to do the math.
      6) There is no paid content planned for MO2, except the game itself and the subscription, which will start after the EPIC release.

Go ahead and check that out for MO. Paid DLC and a subscription service is inherently the same thing. And they charged 40 USD for MO2 knowing good and well it was not finished; thus questiong their intentions is entirely valid. The weekly stream is regurgitating the same thing "were working on it" and "this feature will eventually be added" and other very irrelevant affirmative actions that have not been delivered other than bug fixes. Now I will say they have fixed a lot of things with the game but they are only a few inches into a mile long problem. Can we at least agree that switching engines is not a good idea for the state the game is in? We basically funded a kickstarter at this point. Oh and for refrence I play tarkov, dark and darker, diablo 2, and the division 2. i cam safetly say dark and darker is miles more fun than MO2
