I would build the trans on stock GTR if it would be 2009 one. They were notoriously fragile to the point where Nissan voided warranty just for putting R mode and launching a car.
It was an Australian journalist that came up with the Godzilla name for the GTR. Back when the R32 came to Australia, to race in our group A touring car championship. The car was unbeatable, like Godzilla.
The best youtube channel ever thank you Alex, i stopped watching direct tv many years ago but watch a tv series or a movie now and then. But for the most i choose to be in the garage when i have my alone time, but it is great to have a proper "Legit" hour every Saturday. Not always home to watch it but i know it is there waiting for me when i get home and have my alone time behind the tv. With Legit Street Cars it is always interesting whatever car project it is. I do not even have to like the car, i am learning a lot from Alex for sure. I think it is many things that makes me and a lot of other like it so much. GTR was such a sensation when it came out (we've all watched that Top Gear episode). Then it was bashed by the media repeatedly over the past decade that I was subconsciously hating it. But now that I'm 15 years older and watching your video, I am in love again. Thanks for bringing back my youth! This is the first of your videos that I'm watching more than once because your joy is so genuine and contagious. P.S. I just noticed the video is 1 hour long! I've watched it at least 3 to 4 times now.
Contact your nearest Nissan dealership’s service department and ask them to pull the service history on the car. They’ll be able to pull up every record of it being serviced at any Nissan dealer in the USA (and maybe Canada).
Great acumen getting the trans problem knowing it could only be the bracket, you ended up with a stage 1 and 20k miles less, a great bargain altogether, congrats!
I think your car collection is pretty cool. I owned a 86 Grand National when I was 17 and raced the shit out of it. The Merc Wagon is something I would have loved to drive. This GTR you have now is sweet. I live in Toronto and want a GTR. I own a 91 300zx twin turbo with 600 wheel hp. Doesn’t matter what you own it is the feeling you get when you work on it and drive it. Thanks for your video, if you want to sell that GTR let me know. Bring it back to Canada.
now i am, a retired tech and i am Nissan certified ,but not GTR certified and i highly recommend, following Nissan's fill procedure on the GT-R's DCT transaxle other wise over filling can and will lead to issues. I had the pleasure of watching one of our dealerships old master techs do this service and like all current Nissan transmissions it is involved much like doing a spill and fill on the CVT transmissions. as for why I never got GT-R certified i spent a lot of my career at a Porsche dealership and just didn't feel like dicking with high-end applications anymore also Porsche destroyed my hands after 14 years still good content glad you got your GTR dude maybe ill get mine sone day but till then I'm working on my C5R project when i have time :)
I used to be a Nissan tech , I think to change back to kilometer you have to get a Nissan consult and when programming you have to switch setting to kilometers for bcm or instrument cluster . Mabey after market Autel programming could do it . Good luck
Hey Alex, was waiting on that video ever since I finished the previous one about the GTR, I am sure it will not disappoint. EDIT: Video was perfect. Your discussion with Ivan made me start dreaming about owning a GTR someday, thank you Alex!
Alex, in case you need to remove the intake again, you could probably re-use the copper gaskets but you may have to anneal them (I.e. heat them up and dip them into cold water). I don't know if you're familiar with Allen Millyard, the motorcycle shed guru, if not you really should check him out on TH-cam. He makes and re-uses his own copper gaskets like this. Love the GTR content!
Alex, a small advice. I heard you accelerated prior to shutting down the gtr. Don't do it on any turbo engine as you leave the turbos spinning fast and you cut off the lubrication on the turbo shafts and also the cooling if they are liquid cooled like on Mercedes. Wait 40 seconds of idle before shutting down. Let it reduce the speed and drain the heat before shutting down. Great mechs and I enjoy your adventures. Kind regards from Mexico.
Alex before you mode the car make sure you can unlock the programing. Get those air tubes at least around the side of the radiator it will lower the intake temps at least 30 or 40 degrees during the summer when the engine is up to temp.
Loving how much fun you're having with this - the look of joy on your face with every little magical find and realising just how lucky you've been with this purchase :) Magnetic transmission plate just might play havoc with those magnetic valve body sensors ;) I definitely have garage envy! 🤣🤣
So my 06 chevy 6 cylinder does the flashing light thing after driving a while under strain above 55. Slowly flashes and loses power. I let off the gas and slowly get back to speed and light stops flashing and truck resumes. No body can answer me why this is happening. This seems similar. What could it be? New distributor, wires, plugs, fuel pump, oil pump, fuel injection assembly and injectors. Knock sensor??? Im baffled . Please for the love of your channel, help!
Once you get this thing sorted out it'll be solid. I cant image how nice it feels already. My Crewcab F150 dynos around 550HP 600-610 lbft and runs 11.9 1/4 and 3.7s 0-60 and that is probably almost a ton more in curb weight I think it weighed around 5,700 last time I had it on the scales.

22:40 - One does not simply build the trans on a "stock GTR"
playin dumb
100%
I would build the trans on stock GTR if it would be 2009 one. They were notoriously fragile to the point where Nissan voided warranty just for putting R mode and launching a car.
It was an Australian journalist that came up with the Godzilla name for the GTR. Back when the R32 came to Australia, to race in our group A touring car championship. The car was unbeatable, like Godzilla.
My friend worked on exotics. But he said Japanese cars are the only car engineered for mechanics. Big difference to German engineers
Yes, and actually my Nissan Frontier NISMO uses marine grade type electrical connections like that everywhere. Very well built and engineered
Always an hour well spent watching a new LSC video. Just a man who loves cars living his best life, love it.
I follow others also also some of Alex's friends channels, but there it is more choosing if something looks interesting if it is a car i like or have a had experience with. With Legit Street Cars it is always interesting whatever car project it is. I do not even have to like the car, i am learning a lot from Alex for sure. I think it is many things that makes me and a lot of other like it so much. There is just the right ammount of everything, it is probably because he is just himself and really enjoying doing repairs and maintenance. And of course never a bad word about anyone else, and most of the jokes are on himself 😅
Thank you again Alex and please keep up the amazing work, looking forward to the next video👍
What a steal on this car Alex. Congrats🎉
My favorite TH-camr has been dropping some bangers with the GTR content! No cursing and I can watch with my family in the next room. Thanks bro!
No curses ever!
Really cool to see quick updates at the end of what is coming up!! Thanks alex!
Can't believe I have missed this channel. This GTR content is legendary.
Here's the latest GTR video! th-cam.com/video/0KpOZSbdgko/w-d-xo.html
The Happy Gilmore insert 👌🤣🤣
I think your car collection is pretty cool. I owned a 86 Grand National when I was 17 and raced the shit out of it. The Merc Wagon is something I would have loved to drive. This GTR you have now is sweet. I live in Toronto and want a GTR. I own a 91 300zx twin turbo with 600 wheel hp. Doesn’t matter what you own it is the feeling you get when you work on it and drive it. Thanks for your video, if you want to sell that GTR let me know. Bring it back to Canada.
Best automotive channel hands down. You got the deal of the century, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy!
JDM cars are maybe my most favourite bunch of cars and Alex is my favourite automotive TH-camr soooooo I'm loving it😁
Alex when are we gonna see that SVT Lightning get put back together?
Side window sticker for this LSC fan
Def needs the factory 09 wheels back on. Sick score man !🎉
now i am, a retired tech and i am Nissan certified ,but not GTR certified and i highly recommend, following Nissan's fill procedure on the GT-R's DCT transaxle other wise over filling can and will lead to issues.
Good luck
Anyone else feel like a kid waiting to watch One Saturday Morning when waiting for his videos to drop? Ugh, I'm old.... Lol
Very True I got my beer and remote in my man cave lol
You either have no life, are new to TH-cam, or are 50+ yrs old
Hey Alex, was waiting on that video ever since I finished the previous one about the GTR, I am sure it will not disappoint.
EDIT: Video was perfect. Your discussion with Ivan made me start dreaming about owning a GTR someday, thank you Alex!
Absolutely brilliant how that trans fluid overfill tube works. So basic and so effective. Every transmission should have this.
Love the GTR - please get some more GIGANTIC dry towels in stock. The best.
Will do!
Alex is funny. He is surprised that the GTR with a fully built trans is tuned and then thinks the spark plugs are still the originals. 🤣
Thanks Alex -- Glad we could help! Let us know if you, or anyone else, is in need of some transmission parts / services!
Loving how much fun you're having with this - the look of joy on your face with every little magical find and realising just how lucky you've been with this purchase :)
Magnetic transmission plate just might play havoc with those magnetic valve body sensors ;)
I definitely have garage envy! 🤣🤣
Its refreshing to find a channel with such competent mechanical information.
Oh !!that clean up job was so satisfying .. timing area was looking brand new.. cheers 🍻
LOVE the pure joy on your faces at the launch control! 🔥🔥🔥😍
Congrats on the GTR..The GTRs are dependable and very Reliable quick Cars . Great performance cars at much lesser price. Good you found one .
this is why we keep coming back! love what you do, Alex
Once you get this thing sorted out it'll be solid. I cant image how nice it feels already. My Crewcab F150 dynos around 550HP 600-610 lbft and runs 11.9 1/4 and 3.7s 0-60 and that is probably almost a ton more in curb weight I think it weighed around 5,700 last time I had it on the scales.
this channel is underrated the amount of knowledge this man teachs is insane and impressive
This guy is knowledgeable
and a great presenter. Fantastic content.
Who else watched this whole damn 1 hrs vid!🤣 love it Alex
