    FYI: If you don’t put your O2 mask on first, you soon won’t be coherent enough to help yourself or others (due to hypoxia). The metaphor of aiming for something greater than oneself still holds true (just don’t forget to take care of your own health too).

    • @andrewphilips2457

      yeah good point. That was a very flawed analogy.

    • @TerribleTom113
      @TerribleTom113 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yeah, that was a poor choice of analogy.
      If you don't put your own literal O2 mask on first, you won't be alive long enough to help anyone else do it.
      I get the point he's making, but yeah, bad analogy. 😂

    • @SpaceTrippy_8-8
      @SpaceTrippy_8-8 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      You guys missed the point. He is saying saving someone else is worth it. Service to others is his ultimate purpose. If he dies saving someone else, it's a life well lived. Sometimes, there's no time to save yourself and someone else. Some people are OK with losing their life saving another.

    • @nolashawn
      @nolashawn 11 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@SpaceTrippy_8-8 I think we got his general point; just clarifying the specific example he used. I'm a physician and live a life of service to others (always putting the patient first). I was just pointing out that if that particular situation were to arise on a plane, hypoxia will quickly lead to confusion and an inability to secure anyone's O2 mask correctly. (Whole family dead) Securing your own, allows you to competently secure everyone else's mask. (Whole family survives). Check this clip @ the 7 minute mark to see the effects of hypoxia on your mental acuity.

    My internal tug is who to be generous to. We have 2 children with disabilities and 2 rescue cats. My wife does not work. Resources are slim. I am 100% in service of and provide all my resources to those under my roof. Before I had a family I was able to be generous to people I met in my travels. Things seem to just be so tight with time ... There was a man counting change on a bench the other day and it hurt that I had a fear to help him with Christmas coming up... Just wanted to check in with that struggle.
