- Today I take you guys along for a project that we did a while ago. It's a bit different than my normal videos, but this is what pays my bills. Although usually I'd do the accounting for the business.

So that's how that's done.
Now this is the type of videos I love, seeing what people do for work and I get to learn something new.

This is AFL Optical Power Guide Wire with the fiber optic cable in the center tube of the ACSS hard line conductor
The electric company in our small town ran this type of cable to provide Internet and TV service a month ago. They are deploying service starting in October 2024.

I assume the fiber optic cable will support the SCADA system to allow remote telemetry and control of switches and protection. The ground wire is installed to protect the aerial plant from lighting strikes. This should be bonded to earth/ground at every vertical pole.
I'm not really familiar with fiber. We only install the OPGW. After that Belize Telemedia Limited takes over. (We work for Belize Electricity Limited in line construction)
Most fiber isn't grounded alot of cables don't even have metal armored jacket to attach a ground to......I've never heard of a lightning strike damaging fiber cables and I've been splicing for near a decade

Its crazy how at&t wont run fiber to my road which is right next to another road that has fiber yet these fiber installers can go through woods and swamps.
Might be the perks of a third world country. Then again this wasn't a line for distribution. This Fiber just runs from station to station. We only install the OPGW after that someone else takes over.
At&t and Verizon both are hurting from thier investment in 5G. If you don't have fiber in your area now the SP will use the 5G Network to provide you Internet via Fixed Wireless Access. It should be better than DSL and like a Fiber lite (no glass) connection.
Is there a lot of climbing involved in your work? Or how often are you climbing?
I'm actually accountant. So I rarely go to jobsites. Just every now and then when there's enough time.

No. We only work at home. They take care of their own side.

what size fiber and why not just go Underground?
way cheaper this way. Its like asking why power to houses in a city are not underground.
Why the fiber itsnot a good cuality they always crash the lunes in mi city their a lot of fiber crash AND no one clean the mess

We don't directly work with fiber, we only hang it on the posts for the telephone company. But someone you could check with is Digi Belize. But I have no connection with them.

Our main job is actually powerline construction. We install the poles and all that good stuff from the ground up. This was just the final part of the job. Thanks for watching
