Me and my buddies used to always say that. We'd say "You Foo!!!" Left the "L" out of it because we got it from Mortal Kombat...the first movie. Liu Kang hits Shang Tsung and makes him bleed. He spits the blood out, looks him dead in the eyes, and goes..."you foo!!!" Lmao
Number 2 is Number 1 for me. To this day one of the funniest, most ridiculous things I've ever seen. I remember thinking one of them was surely going to have a heart attack 5 minutes into the fight
Demian Maia vs Ben Askren is my favorite fight ever. The weird quasi-home field advantage for Ben mixed with Maia having next to no heat on him made for a weird atmosphere. The grappling lived up to the expectations and Maia’s striking exceeded them. Ben, meanwhile, threw with such gusto. He could’ve just gone for clinches and takedowns but he bit down on the mouthpiece and tried his best. There’s so much about it that fascinates me to this day. Maia’s last win, Ben’s last MMA fight period, it lies at such a strange impasse in both of their careers. Add all that together with the fact that I’m a wrestler who does BJJ and its the perfect fight for me. I cherish it.
Hey man, I’ve got no shame in my game. I appreciate the typical classic fights of course, your Lawler-McDonald 2’s and Hughes-Trigg 2’s and all that, but I love that cringy, earnest attempt at striking Ben put forth and Maia’s determination. It’s a fun fight and there’s nothing anyone can say to change my feelings about it.
“Everyone had black belts but no one had actually been in a fight...” So true. Which is why the few legit “tough guys” like Abbott actually did pretty well despite how drunk and out of shape they were. At least they knew what it felt like AFTER someone hit you...
Theres places that sell belts for joining their gym if they're famous , or paying for the subscription for long enough without actually knowing what skill they are because they've just been given a participation medal for paying money, they should really have a strict requirement for belts as it gives a bad name to the tarnished reputation of martial art gyms and schools
I remember watching a clip from the Grange podcast before the Maia/askren fight and Rob Whitaker said, "It's either going to be a grappling clinic or a shit kickboxing match." And I've been thinking about that ever since.
