Japanese Ranni: I want free will for all and will make sure outer gods stop meddling with the Lands Between. English Ranni: I WILL TAKE THE EMOTIONS AWAY FROM ALL AND PLUNGE THE WORLD INTO DARKNESS
There are three instances I can recall off the top of my head where moon gods weren't feminine. One was the Egyptian moon god Konshu, the Japanese moon god Tsukuyomi, and the Norse moon god Mani.
34:42 though there are exceptions, like Egyptian mythology, Sumerian mythology... And also Japan, with Sun Goddess Amaterasu (giving life equating to giving birth apparently, but I could be putting it in a way that's drastically reductionist) who the mythology states to be a direct ancestor of Japan's imperial bloodline. As a weeb I thought you'd know that one in particular. Also, check out Okami and its sequel. You'll have fun, especially if you look up the inspirations behind the various characters.
An interesting thing is that the story takes heavy inspiration not just from Lovecraft and Berserk, but also Celtic and Norse myth. The demigods are surprisingly similar to the Tuathé de Danann of Celtic myth, which makes sense since this Divine lineage began when the Erdtree sprouted and took root in the Lands Between. Befitting as Radagon is similar to the Dagda, Father of the Tuathé, and Marika is similar to his consort, The Morrigan. Fia, Ranni and Melina are reminiscent of the Three Princesses from the Ireland founding myth: Eriu, Banbha, and Fódla. Here, each of these three "queens" represent their own domain of The Forgotten Lands: The Stars, The Golden Order, and Those that Live in Death. Hoarah Loux is significantly similar to the Ulster hero, CúChulainn. While Loux uses an Axe and Cu uses a Spear and Sword, They're both powerful wrestlers and fighter kings who become significantly stronger when angered. A symbol that is used by the Golden Order, constantly, is the Treyarch or Triquestra; the loops representing a cycle of Birth, Life and Death. The Erdtree is mainly based on the World Tree, Yggdrasil, but I kinda see some of the Celtic great oak tree in there, minus being fed by a holy river like the Danube. Ranni herself might be a link to a princess named Rhiannon, a woman known to be the goddess of horses. And Ranni also happens to be fairly acquainted with Torrent. Not enough? One version of Rhiannon is named "Macha," who is one of the three goddesses of Death (like Ranni, Renna and Rennala) Malenia has a good mix of a few of these references. --She's obviously a Valkyrie in design, bearing holy armor and wings along her feminine figure. --her fiery red hair and disposition for War bears resemblance to Scathach, a celtic War goddess from the Orkneys known for training CúChúlainn. --her arm is likely a reference to Nuada, aka Nuada Silverhand, who was the Tuathe that led combat against the Formore. Speaking of which: The Omen and Demihumans seem ti resemble the Formore, who inhabited the Island alongside the Fir Bolg, the humans that they warred with before the Fir Bolg themselves fought the Tuathe De Danann. (Btw, the Sword of Eochaid is named after a Fir Bolg, Eochaid, who would become High King of Ireland.) With the Fell God in the Fire Goant being similar to Balor with that one giant eye. Although, I think I can safely say we should all be very gappy we did not get to FIGHT Balor himself, or we'd never finish the game. The Roundtable, Gideon and Tarnished all bear resemblance to Arthurian Knights. They are warriors who have died in service to their lord, resurrected to continue their service in their land's time of great strife, and bare holy destiny by their god's will. I could list more, but that'd probably be an hour or half-hour long read. These are kinda the ones I noticed firsthand. Also, "Blaidd" is Welsh for Wolf.
Also Godrywn is very similar to Baldur literally everyone liked him and his death was the start of the fall of the golden order very similar to ragnorok
@@JamesW609 Hmm... Liked by everyone End of the world is started with his death Gods failing to ressurect him (for Balder, it was a failure of all the Aesir to cry for him. For Godwyn, it's a fan theory that Miquella was going to resurrect him with a ritual during the Eclipse) By Cernuunos, you're absolutely right!
@JamesW609 UPDATE: upon further reflection, it's pretty obvious that Godwyn is a reference to Baldr, but I'd also argue his warrior background, Uniter title, death at a young age and status as God of Light might mean he too is a sort of reference to the God of Light, War and The Hunt: Lugh. Even then, Morgott might be a play on Lugh as well, nit only being a King amd hunter wielding light, but his Omen curse might reflect Lugh's Fomorian heritage
What is also really cool is how intelligence and faith looks at the powers of the cosmos. Sorcerers/astrologers view it in a more scientific way: you have the moons, meteors, the primeval current. Faith users on the other hand give these cosmic forces names and revere them as Gods.
There is some lore indicating that Melania fought Radahn specifically to resume the movement of the stars. Miqeulla was trying to resurrect Godwyn's soul, and it required a solar eclipse to complete.

You forget an important fact. Before ue fought you, Radahn fought Malenia and forced her to use her rot powers AND retreat, WHILE holding back the stars AND keeping himself from crushing his horse. Guy is beyond broken in the verse.
one thing i thin vaati forgets in this video about the omen is that the omen have other souls/people in there blood. thats why they probably cant sleep and also probably why they are born outside of grace. yes it may onlt be a curse in the context of the golden order but who wants other lifeforms inside you and horns everywere. it must be exhausting and and annoying. i think when they sleep the see the other people/spirits that dwell inside them. and the crucible is the ORIGIN of all life in the world (i think) not a outer god.
53:49 I think I have an answer to Nux's question what order does Miquella want? and I believe that it is an order of purity in order where no outer God can interfere with the lives of man you can see this when he so diligently tries to expunge the outer God of rot within his sister she does not want this she does not want to become a goddess of rot or bring upon an age of rot but many others in the lands between suffer the same fate she does The Omen and the Misbegotten are born with horns wings and tails that they did not ask for but were touched by an outer God still trying to cling on what little power they have left from an era long forgotten also Miquella when he goes into his alter ego St Trina he goes into the depths of Leyndell and calms the frenzied flame madness within the merchants by singing them to sleep It is quite ironic that he wants an order of purity but has the power to control the minds of others he has the power to compel affection whether he does this on purpose or not or whether his followers follow him through devotion loyalty or just brainwashing we still do not know but whatever the case I believe he wants everything to be in abundance weather benevolent or benign all things should flourish and grow without influence and I believe this is what he wants in his unalloyed golden order Or maybe he's just Griffith Maybe he wants to ascend to outer God and and become his own orders outer God to stop the meddling of other gods all will be answered in the DLC just............9 more days
The thing I find the most badass about Morgott's lore is that once of his monikers is "Morgott, the grace given" meaning that despite being an accursed omen despised by the order, he fought off all the demigod invasions on the capital, became the undisputed lord of Leyndell and *earned* his grace, which is something no other character in elden ring ever achieved
27:10 Ranni is the eldest child?! Her little brothers became a big fuckoff snake and an absolute unit! That’s hilarious. That ruins my theory that Marika recalled Radagon once she learned that he can sire Empyreans that could potentially replace her.
its more likely that the smoldering butterflies are Mesmer's instead of Melina's now that the dlc is coming out, since he calls Marika mother in the trailer
57:30 A fourth butterfly has been confirmed from those that played the DLC at the media tour. It's a charred, black one - Something that lines up pretty well with Messmer's whole deal. So, based on what we know right now, the Smoldering Butterfly falls back to Melina who I hope we get way more information on since - even though she's basically the whole reason our character does _anything_ - we still know next to nothing about her. I mean, we STILL don't know why Melina's body was burned up before the story began which is, like, the _entire_ inciting incident for how our character gets saved from being a maidenless piece of garbage. The inclusion of a fourth butterfly also solidifies the whole "butterfly theory" to begin with. It wasn't necessarily shaky in the first place, but one _could_ make an argument for just plain coincidence. Now that all three children of Marika and Radagon have them (I'm sorta assuming Messmer is one of those considering, y'know, red hair..has a statue of Marika holding a baby in his throne room..literally refers to his mother sanctioning us as Elden Lord...etc.), I think it's pretty safe to say Melina is a fourth child in some way. Maybe not an empyrean like Miquella and Malenia, but definitely related.
That stuff about the moon has been in From's games since at least Dark Souls 1. Gwyndolyn, Gwyn's son was male but raised as a woman because he had affinity with lunar magic.
I like to think that the Marika and radagon being the same person is kinda like they were originally one person, but Marika created Radagon as another form before she decided that the golden order was bad. And since Radagon was not as powerful as Marika he was more influenced by the Greater will, so when the greater will commanded him to he left renalla and joined Marika, they sired the two cursed children and then when the shattering started the greater will forced radagon to wound and restrain Marika while attempting to reforge the elden ring

to quote Ansbach "Miquella is a monster, wielding love as a weapon - there's nothing more terrifying." And indeed despite appearing kind and compassionate, Miquella is probably the most terrifying character in all of Elden Ring - as his vision for his "Age of Kindness" and "Age of Compassion" is to basically mind control every single being in the world and force them to love him, destroying everything he doesn't like or feels like it doesn't fit his idea of this Age of Compassion he wishes to enforce. He's basically a tyrant - wit the goal of World Domination using forced love and mind control. Which is also why the final boss of the dlc is so incredibly tragic...
38:00 fairly certain the Great Serpent is not an Outer God, given we can actually fight it and do not get the 'God Slain' message I doubt it is even the Vassal of one, most likely it is some sort of lesser deity from the pre erdtree age like the Regal Ancestor Spirits
7:30 Margit is a master of illusions and the weaker Margit, Mohg and Morgott are basically his shadow clones. 30:45 Go in game, wait until night, and look up. Two moons. One on each side of the tree, light and dark.
one thing i'm still curious about is how the hell did Mohg kidnap miquella when malenia was right there? Am i supposed to believe he tiptoed in, cut out a tree chunk and dragged it back without her noticing when she wakes up just by us walking in.
Also what vaati's video of the age of star, malenia and miquella really like them and miquella explains a lot, miquella seems like a mix between thorfinn and griffith and that somehow works
Corrections, the greater will is the creator of order and all life, he is superior to the outher gods, he doesn’t give a f**k of what kind of order is in place, he only whants some kind of order. Be it the golden order, the order of Rot or whatever, he doesn’t care.
About Radahn holding back the stars, it's a little easier to understand when you realize stars in Elden Ring are completely different from the ones in real life. What Radahn was doing wasn't holding literal celestial bodies or anything, he was instead making a barrier of sorts between the Lands Between and the stars/outer beings by isolating the world from the sky. Imagine the universe is inside a bubble and the stars are the outside of it, what Radahn did was kinda like insulation that bubble. Worth noting that the stars and the Outer Gods are similar, and there are connections between the two, but they're not necessarily directly connected. The Elden Beast is a star that acts as a vessel to an outer god, and the Moons, which are intrinsically tied to the stars, act very similarly to how Outer Gods do. There's also the eclipse, which has some more complicated stuff I won't go into now, but relates to both gods and stars too. But at the same time, the Greater Will is the only god that's ever directly tied to stars in the game's text from what I remember, and Radahn's actions didn't seem to affect the God of Rot or Flame of Frenzy in any way, implying they have nothing to do with the stars. So it's all pretty vague when it comes to if and how those concepts connect.

Rani: Why did the stars stop moving?
Radan: 🎶I AM THE STORM THAT IS APPROOOOOAAAAACHING🎶
Can't believe NUX played the DLC before any of us and called Miquella like that at 52:10 FRFR pre-gamed not just pre-watched
0:56 “Malenia is best girl.” While showing Melina. The names are stupid similar but that sounds like a skill issue.
Bro I forgot how much vaati sounds like mynameisbyf, and SPEAKING OF LORE, Nux might like the Destiny lore.
The destiny lore is great man. Top notch. Just sucks at what it’s become. Itd be pretty cool to react
6:02 Now I'm wondering if there were dragon maids during that time. 🤔 🐉
NPC coming to Shadow of the Erdtree.
Lord Nuxalore - The Scholar of Stories
Was not expecting a Maimonides reference. Nux showing that his lore knowledge goes deeper.
Mogh-lester ended up being the Mogh-lested. (DLC ENDING IS DAMN SAD)
There are three instances I can recall off the top of my head where moon gods weren't feminine. One was the Egyptian moon god Konshu, the Japanese moon god Tsukuyomi, and the Norse moon god Mani.
Nux putting together the Pacidusax was an Elden Lord was pretty peak ngl
Not enough? One version of Rhiannon is named "Macha," who is one of the three goddesses of Death (like Ranni, Renna and Rennala)
Malenia has a good mix of a few of these references.
Speaking of which:
The Omen and Demihumans seem ti resemble the Formore, who inhabited the Island alongside the Fir Bolg, the humans that they warred with before the Fir Bolg themselves fought the Tuathe De Danann.
Liked by everyone
End of the world is started with his death
Gods failing to ressurect him (for Balder, it was a failure of all the Aesir to cry for him. For Godwyn, it's a fan theory that Miquella was going to resurrect him with a ritual during the Eclipse)
By Cernuunos, you're absolutely right!
Nux would be one of the Nox in all honesty, chilling out underground with The Greater Will being annoyed at how based he is
Can't wait for your Elder Scrolls lore dive.
How did nux just found out that plaxidixac was an elden lord without looking at the lore
Ultimately, Ranni was just doing what Marika wanted. To be released from the Greater Will.
Just cut the ties of the outter gods to the lands between
well...
The Moghlester has now become the Miqlested
The Next lore dive should be the world of darkness believe me the setting is most wild shit ever they manage to make vampires actually interesting
Ooh, I hope he does Bruva Alfabusa's introduction video.
I want a Hunter: The Parenting reaction so badly 😫
... ya the DLC is out and Nux actually predicted a plot twist on minute 52... so props to you man 👏👏👏
What is also really cool is how intelligence and faith looks at the powers of the cosmos.
Mohg is innocent. I will not accept this slander!!!! 16:54
Before the dlc my guy
@@corbis7765 fair. Still unacceptable
I don't often comment on things, but I just wanted to thank you for the hours upon hours of content, Nux. I have you on while I'm working my day job and you bring a lot of laughter to my days. LOVE the lore deep dives you've been getting into- esp 40k and now Elden RIng. You excel at providing truly insightful analysis with your trademark wit that is just so engaging and thought-provoking. I know you said Dark Souls is on the docket in time- make sure to check out Vaatividya's Prepare to Cry series for that one. Oof. Lore that will hit you right in the GUT. Anyways, thank you, my guy, for being exactly who you are. Never change, sir. 💛
Love these long videos while I’m just chillin at work
You forget an important fact. Before ue fought you, Radahn fought Malenia and forced her to use her rot powers AND retreat, WHILE holding back the stars AND keeping himself from crushing his horse. Guy is beyond broken in the verse.
"My inner Warhammer is comin out - I wanna purge the heretics right now." 😂
one thing i thin vaati forgets in this video about the omen is that the omen have other souls/people in there blood. thats why they probably cant sleep and also probably why they are born outside of grace. yes it may onlt be a curse in the context of the golden order but who wants other lifeforms inside you and horns everywere. it must be exhausting and and annoying. i think when they sleep the see the other people/spirits that dwell inside them. and the crucible is the ORIGIN of all life in the world (i think) not a outer god.
I have watch all the lore but seeing nux take always interesting
Miquella and Malenia Backstories are my favourite inspirations of Elden Ring.
Don’t forget the most secretive daughter of marika….melanoma
Miquella is best boy, just wants everyone to be happy and have everything they need
no
53:49 I think I have an answer to Nux's question what order does Miquella want? and I believe that it is an order of purity in order where no outer God can interfere with the lives of man you can see this when he so diligently tries to expunge the outer God of rot within his sister she does not want this she does not want to become a goddess of rot or bring upon an age of rot but many others in the lands between suffer the same fate she does The Omen and the Misbegotten are born with horns wings and tails that they did not ask for but were touched by an outer God still trying to cling on what little power they have left from an era long forgotten also Miquella when he goes into his alter ego St Trina he goes into the depths of Leyndell and calms the frenzied flame madness within the merchants by singing them to sleep
It is quite ironic that he wants an order of purity but has the power to control the minds of others he has the power to compel affection whether he does this on purpose or not or whether his followers follow him through devotion loyalty or just brainwashing we still do not know but whatever the case I believe he wants everything to be in abundance weather benevolent or benign all things should flourish and grow without influence and I believe this is what he wants in his unalloyed golden order
Or maybe he's just Griffith
Maybe he wants to ascend to outer God and and become his own orders outer God to stop the meddling of other gods all will be answered in the DLC just............9 more days
It's the first time I notice Nux's eyes close differently, one closes curving downward and the other curving upwards.
"Doesn't he look like Griffith from a specific angle" dude just gave the biggest dlc spoiler even before it was out
Oh fuck, how did he know I was going to be watching the VOD? He's consumed too much lore, he must be stopped before he becomes too powerful.
Keep up the good work nux you make great vids 👍
MAJOR DLC SPOILER WARNING
Wow, Nux's jokes about the possibility of Miquella being like Griffith sure aged well
The thing I find the most badass about Morgott's lore is that once of his monikers is "Morgott, the grace given" meaning that despite being an accursed omen despised by the order, he fought off all the demigod invasions on the capital, became the undisputed lord of Leyndell and *earned* his grace, which is something no other character in elden ring ever achieved
Hey Nux, why did you ever stop doing the Yugioh pogression series? Just watched the series and it seems like you and Briggs planned on doing more.
The belief that stars have some kind of sentience and affect destiny is maintained to this day as astrology.
4:15 so because of Grandsax most of the dragons are dead. (Sorry i don't know how the name is spelled.)
0:57 naw, millicent
1:35 MITOSIS THEORY works great for this too
4:12 wait for it 5:53 yes this is it
6:47 the most ancient one, most likely, while the rune was the great crucible most likely
7:30 illusions, Mohgs one was to trick Margit into thinking he was still down there, Morgott so the people wouldn't notice they were ruled by an omen
9:35 even more mysterious why it seems to affect the dung eater as well
10:26 not exactly, they were the face of whatever is directly haunting them in their dreams for the purpose of pure horror.
47:53 not really, when she aeonian bloomed in the battle with radahn the rot god sunk more of its claws into her, taking away pieces of her, Millicent is the will that malenia lost upon the battle with radahn, the other ones are other pieces. Is she their parent, kind of but not really
47:57 naw, millicent
Tarnished Archaeologist does great Elden Ring Lore. If you are looking for the game's real world inspirations, he is the guy who has made the connection.
Smoughtown is also really good
@@Christmas_Johan
Vaati - Basic Summary
Smoughtown - In Depth Essay with other Lore Channel References
Tarnished Archaeologist - Real Life Inspirations for the Lore plus In Game sights as Evidence
Inspirations don't mean much. I care about IT not what inspired it. Inspiration doesn't affect the story
@@graygaude4542I think vaati is the most by the book barely tiptoing into speculation
@@Donovarkhallum Inspiration DOES in fact influence the story, since it's based on it.
3:30 He likes realism and lets be honest, if giant flying fire breathing beasts existed IRL humans 100% would make sure they don't, there's no chance we wouldn't.
The fact the lore states Miquella can compel love, makes him seem so much more sinister.
Nux needs to watch the sorcery videos. It explains some cool stuff about the Cosmos.
About worshipping dragons not being heretical, powerful religions are just institutions looking to expand their influence. Often, expectations and compromises are given to individual sects to maintain the peace or, in this case, be utilized for a greater end.
Can’t wait for him to watch every Vaati video
He needs to watch Elden archeology after
@@marlonyo The Tarnished Archeologist? I haven't watched their videos. Are they good?
@@DrJones0801 yep i would recommend: The secret story behind Two and Three Fingers | Elden Ring Archaeology Ep. 18 . For being the most mindblowing for me.
Nah nux you running these like a marathon and I can’t keep up but I will damn sure try
to quote Ansbach "Miquella is a monster, wielding love as a weapon - there's nothing more terrifying." And indeed despite appearing kind and compassionate, Miquella is probably the most terrifying character in all of Elden Ring - as his vision for his "Age of Kindness" and "Age of Compassion" is to basically mind control every single being in the world and force them to love him, destroying everything he doesn't like or feels like it doesn't fit his idea of this Age of Compassion he wishes to enforce.
You think the dragons had it bad wait into you hear about the omens and the merchants.
Nux: Godwyn was the only good guy in Elden Ring
Radan: He murdered all of the dragons. I literally learnt gravity magic so I wouldn't crush my horse.
Funny thing is in the dlc we find out miquella bewitched mohg do everything moghlester was the mohglested
"I Vore Lore" needs to be a merch item, stickers, buttons, keychains, hoodies, shirts. Come on Nux you just created gold right there

Yes!!! I’ve been waiting for this
"Fathers day I got my dad a......let's not talk about it 🙁"" 😅😅😅 I love you're sense of humor!!
7:30 Margit is a master of illusions and the weaker Margit, Mohg and Morgott are basically his shadow clones.
30:45 Go in game, wait until night, and look up. Two moons. One on each side of the tree, light and dark.
Elden Ring lore and Hollow Knight lore are my favorites in gaming
He should do "biggest flexes in Elden Ring" XD
one thing i'm still curious about is how the hell did Mohg kidnap miquella when malenia was right there? Am i supposed to believe he tiptoed in, cut out a tree chunk and dragged it back without her noticing when she wakes up just by us walking in.
He did it when her and her army was fighting Radahn and his so it probaly wasn't guarded to much
It’d be cool if one day you reacted to Elder Scrolls lore, a bunch of videos on different parts of the lore
51:20 it could be that he didn't want any influence and just to become god by himself
Ngl i still really want nux to react to the elder scrolls lore
We need this
47:53 the TRUE Chad Elden Ring player knows Rya is best girl.
Metal band mascots have lore too
Like Eddie from iron maiden
I'm glad you mentioned Griffith. I thought the same thing
The irs wants to know your location
Nux i hope you watch all of Vaati's Elden Ring lore collection.. there are some all time great videos, especially The Lord of Frenzied Flame; also, "The Lore of Elden Ring is Rotten" and the other more serious deep dives into specific characters are super based and well-done
