Pakistan election: Coalition talks confirmed after surprise win for Imran Khan supporters - BBC News

  • Pakistanis still do not know which party will form their next government or who their next prime minister will be four days after the hotly-contested general elections.
    Despite former PM Imran Khan's detention and the many hurdles thrown at his Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), independent candidates backed by the party stunned observers by winning 93 National Assembly seats, the most by any party.
    However it is far short of the 169-seat simple majority required to form a government.
    The Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) of another former PM, Nawaz Sharif, came in second with 75 seats.
    Sharif was seen to have the backing of the country's powerful military and had been expected to coast to victory, five years after he left Pakistan in disgrace.
    The Pakistan People's Party (PPP), led by political blue blood Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, came in third with 54 seats.
    The PML-N and PPP - the second and third largest blocs - have confirmed they are now in discussions as to whether to form a coalition government.

    What was done to Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman led Awami League in 1971 is also being done to Imran Khan led PTI. It's very unfortunate that Pakistan's political parties and elite military have always failed to show respect to people's will and subsequently brought disaster to the country and the nation.

    Why aren't we witnessing any voices from within the Army lower ranks. Is the Army of 750,000 not a part of nations. Cant they feel the pain of common poor people? Doesn't their silence mean they agree with their Generals? They can resign for the least? Wondering why they don't speak up!

      Over 50 million people voted in Pakistan's general elections 2024 & PTI-backed independents (Imran Khan's party) received only 16.8 million votes while PML received over 14 million & PPP received nearly 7.6 million votes. Similarly, MQM got 2.4 million, JUI got 1.5 million, GDA got 1.2 million, JI received 1 million & other parties also received millions of vote. How can IK become PM with just 33% seats? Other parties who are mostly anti-PTI got over 2/3 majority in Pakistan. If you want others to respect your mandate then you have to respect others mandate as well.

    To fix Pakistan: 1. Bring Imran Khan to power.
    Remove the army from politics. Let Imran Khan remove corruption and bring in business I.e. let him continue the path for Pakistan. We all know Imran Khan is an innocent man behind bars for his honesty.

    • @Lyallpuriya
      @Lyallpuriya 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Why should we bring Imran Khan back to power? He doesn't have a simple majority. His party backed independents only got 92 out 336 seats & only 16.8 million votes out of 55 million. He doesn't have a simple majority. Second, he can't remove corruption because he is no honest man. All the corruption charges he put against his opponents were fake & fraud. His regime from 2018-22 was one of the most brutal & authoritarian regimes we ever faced. He wanted to convert Pakistan into a police state. He wants to create a One-Party dictatorship through voting. Basically he wants to end democracy through democracy & mob mentality. Third, he will never remove army from politics & he doesn't want to do that because he wants army to support him. Remind you his government was literally backed & fully supported by the military from 2017-22. He facilitated army to held control over Pakistani politics. He wants army to oppress his opposition. That's what he wants!

    I think someone in Pakistan should get a grip of its image on the newscreens of the world. I appreciate that the images of its electorate, over 90% of who look male and demented, may be a reflection of the reality. But surely a more positive image, say of women politicians across the spectrum discussing issues in a civilised manner, would offer a more positive image for Pakistanis themselves.

    PM Imran Khan told General Bajwa, chief of army staff, in 2022 that interfering with his Goverment would damage the economy. Bajwa planned and conived to remove Khan. The new Govt formed under instructions from the military destroyed the economy. From 6% growth it has fallen to 0.2% and falling. Instead of moving to correct matters with good governance, the military has replaced Bajwa with Gen Asim Munir, who with vote rigging is trying to put the ex PM Nawaz Sharif (PMLN) into power. Poll after poll and the votes cast (on form 45) clearly favour Khan with 80% but results are being tabulated showing discrepancies between actual vote counts and the declaration tabulations (on form 47) by officials.
