They repeated this in New York in a Metropolitan Opera Pension Fund Benefit concert later with Jimmy Levine conducting. They were supposed to do a run together in LA when PD took on the directorship of LA Opera but Baltsa cancelled when Mama Baltsa was unwell, Denyce Graves took over and became a star. Baltsa was also slated for Favorita at SF Opera but that fell off when Alfredo Kraus passed on. Sadly Baltsa never sang in the West Coast. Vienna was lucky - they got PD and Baltsa together in Carmen with Maazel and Abbado conducting.
I think this is from the tribute to Callas gala, right? Domingo and Baltsa open the evening with a killer performance. I'm surprised, to this day, that Baltsa didn't shred her vocal cords with that scream. lol For my money, the only better Don Jose and Carmen combo would be Domingo and Callas. Of course, Domingo and Baltsa made one of the top two Samson et Dalila's. Thanks for sharing. Paz y salud.
