    you don't have to bend the shift cable bracket, simply clamp it to the driveshaft and it stays out of the way, no fuss.

    Good video with little tips n tricks but forgot to change the o ring with the filter so you get a tight fit.. you get away with it the first time cuz once your able to remove your filter with one hand, that tells you it’s not getting a tight seal. Gonna start loosing transmission pressure

    • @jakevarbel
      @jakevarbel  11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you. I have heard that but I have actually never had that happen to me. I always check the seal for damage or lose fit on the filter. So far I haven’t had any issues with mine or others I’ve done. I have unfortunately scored a case trying to remove that seal once. That wasn’t a fun fix lol.

    I’ve got 178000 miles and the trans fluid isn’t too dark but I’m afraid of also having new detergent break more debris free. Are these miles low enough to try?
    I just got it used and don’t know the vehicle history.

    • @jakevarbel
      @jakevarbel  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      There is always a risk with that many miles. I’d assume the transmission isn’t original. The normal service life of a 4l60e is 140,000 miles. If it’s original 178,000 miles is on borrowed time. How are this shifts ? Good and firm ? If you have access to a good scanner check the engine load and grams per second during a 1-2 wide open throttle. Those number will tell you if your mass air flow sensor is working properly. The Maf sensor is the number one killer of the 4l60e. It controls the pressure of the transmission is often over looked and ignored when it start to go out.

    I noticed you didn't remove the filter gasket.. is it not that serious to replace when changing the filter out

    • @jakevarbel
      @jakevarbel  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You run the Risk of scoring the valve body. If it looks good and holds the filter up good you are good to go. I’ve never had one fall out. I’ve replaced them in the past and not replaced them and had the same results

    Looks like the drain plug has a lock nut on the inside maybe why it strips out.

    Was your pan gasket leaking? My truck is leaking and I see your exhaust was wet just like mine, same place. On mine I see the gasket squishing out and wet with ATF. Just wondering if there is a higher place it could leak.

    • @jakevarbel
      @jakevarbel  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Mine was leaking from the pan yes. There are several places higher up that could leak. Be sure to check the shift shaft seal(located behind the neutral saftey switch or shift cable), cooler lines on the passenger side of the trans, as well as the vent. The vent usually makes a huge mess and if it’s coming g out of there you have much bigger problems lol. The safest way to know is to clean the whole transmission off with water or break clean and recheck after a few days.

      @jakevarbel thanks for this helpful info. I'm going to change the gasket. seems to be wet from the pan downwards. this transmission was rebuilt 5 years ago. It's leaking pretty bad

    My truck already has 280,000 miles on it, do you think it would be a good idea to change the transmission fluid? Because I have taken it to transmission locations and they tell me that if I do that it will stop working then the transmission will break completely, please give your opinion

    • @jakevarbel
      @jakevarbel  ปีที่แล้ว

      What color is the fluid ? Is that the original trans ?

    • @jjhdez4715
      @jjhdez4715 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes, it is the original and the color of the fluid is dark red

    • @jakevarbel
      @jakevarbel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@jjhdez4715 if it’s never been changed unfortunately a service may not do you any good. New fluid and detergent will break debris loose and cause more problems than good. Now if it has been changed before then changing the fluid and filter will not hurt anything. Hope this helps !

      Good clarification. I been planning on flushing as well as changing filter myself this time on my ‘06 that I’ve owned since new. I keep reading comments on other videos where people say not to change it. Ive changed mine 2-3 times since new so I think I’ll be good.
