Just saw these guys on tour last night in Richmond VA. This song had never really hit me until then. After hearing it live I have a whole new appreciation. When played live, all the 'empty space' in the instrumentation, as Dave Applegate mentioned, is filled up perfectly and reveals its purpose. Beautiful song with a lot of space within in, to work all kinds of different motifs into.
I've been a fan of Dawes (both of them) and have always wondered if they knew that there is a formula to express the maximum resolving power of a microscope or telescope. The formula takes different forms depending on the units. R = 4.56/D D in inches, R in arcseconds R = 11.6/D D in centimeters, R in arcseconds where D is the diameter of the main lens (aperture) R is the resolving power of the instrument and that its called ..........wait for it...... "THE DAWES LIMIT" named after W.R. DAWES
You are probably right, Andy. After listening a few more times, my theory of the mod box distorted guitar seems very unlikely given the way the last few notes are voiced. Either way, I love it! Great ear, btw ...
absolutely! looping contrapuntal lines as opposed to homophonic chording is so great any time, but especially here. Like a more mellow Three of a Perfect Pair!
Depends on how you define strength of a telescope.a short refractor with 559 mm length with an aperature of 81mm(3.25in) as well as a mounted dslr camera will be able to see more light and give you almost the cartoon looking 4 spikes of the strar. as well as bringing out galaxies and nebulas when doing long exporsure. a 6ft lenth /8inch dob scope wont achieve that but you can have better magnification The formula do calculate the max magnification is called "The Dawes Limit " named after W.R. Dawes
There's a lot of empty space in the repetitive instrumentation. I wonder if it's intentional and if it will add to the song the more I listen to it. Dawes's songs tended to grow on me after their sophomore release rather than the immediate love I had for North Hills. Doesn't make these songs any less amazing, just different. I really appreciate seeing progression in their catalogue.
These guys are hit or miss with me. I like the 70's soft rock sound here and in "Feed the Fire." Stuff like "Time Flies Either Way" or "A Little Bit of Everything" are just too blah for me to get into.
Hey Dawes! I've been listening to your music for years and years, and you've been my favorite band since high school. Your music has gotten me through the craziest seasons of my life. I play bass in a 60s-style rock & roll band in Tulsa, OK and I would love the chance to apply to open for your Tulsa show at Cain's ballroom. We are called The Lonelys (IG: @thelonelys) and your consideration would be a tremendous opportunity. We officially released our first album last month and it can be found on Spotify (it's called Wall of Love). Again, thank you so much for your consideration! Here is a brief video of a house show we did recently: facebook.com/TheLonelys/videos/10157440349422519/
the drumbeat on this song blows my mind every time I listen to it.

Gotta love this writing
This is masterful songwriting
This is my favorite song on 'PASSWORDS' … it's fucking brilliant.
Just saw the Dawes for the first time in Detroit. They opened for ELO.....all I can say is WOW awesome concert. Great night, Great music!
My favourite track from one of my favourite albums of 2018. The lyrics are so intriguing.
Griff sounding great on this track.
Interesting sound on this album. I'm sure it will grow on me the more I listen. Can't wait to hear this new stuff live
Many of my friends think my music taste is like a mayo stuffed banana, but someday they’ll understand the true flavor of it..

I'm loving this group! My new favorite sound...layers upon layers to enjoy.
Dawesome
Much appreciation & love from St. Louis, MO. Maybe someone special will bring me 💋
Dawes is opening for ELO on their current tour. Not sure the 2 fan bases have much in common, but I'm thrilled. Can't wait for Friday in Philly!
Amazing. Can’t wait for the new album.
Hypnotic.
The keyboard/synth/e.p. parts are really intriguing me ahead of this release.
Patrick Jenkins Lee Pardini is one of my favorite keysmang nowadays.
Fantastic!
Awesome! Thank you for posting this!
Best Blue Oyster Cult song in years!
Beautiful
Puts me in mind of Adrian Belew and Tony Levin on some mellower King Crimson grooves - love the guitar solo at 3:16.
that sounds like a synth to me

Very nice!
Taylor does it again. Great story in a song, with some great production. Can't wait for the record on June 22.
3rd listen... it's growing on me.
Calgary shoutout :)
Sweet bass line
Magic
Mmh. Not many People have found this gem yet . . .
Dawmazing
“The stronger the telescope, the more stars erupt.”
That makes sense to me also.

The stronger the microscope / the more scars there are
Pinback vibes

if you use only 2.5 notes why not rap it. What's wrong with melody?
