God I miss the original actor of Spartacus, when he was gone RIP, I had a hard time accepting the new one but how they continued the series made me happy and I learned to like the new actor. One of my most favorite shows on STARZ I’m sure many of you feel the same ❤
One of the most epic scenes in the history of cinema. In my humble opinion. Blood and Sand will probably always be my favorite series. The shots of Spartacus standing up after being knocked down seem like foreshadowing of the monster the Romans had created. #spartacus #andywhitfield
@MrSunshine022 Ross yeah unfortunately Andy passed away after the filming of season 1 and he was recast but his replacement did a damn good job. The other seasons are pretty great, the prequal series about Gannicus is fantastic aswell.
To me the greatest part of the fight is when the four guards surround him. Everyone in the room is tense about what is about to happen. The shear indifference in Spartacus’ face as he is surrounded speaks volumes.
Basic mob/bully mentality. 'They' thought they were superior, and were going to enjoy beating a lone person down. Spartacus knew he wasn't going to let them, and had the training/heart/will to see it happen. GREAT scene!
I love how Spartacus, when he is standing from water, looks at Glaber for a moment (and Batiatus notes that), then he turns left to keep fighting, and before the last punch to the gladiator, he looks at Glaber again (and I also get the impression that he continues to keep his gaze with him after finishing) . Great actor, and great director.
Spartacus was a great series. And Andy Whitfield was the perfect choice to play him. Liam McIntyre had a big task to fill Andy’s shoes. He did well but Andy made the role his own. 👍👍🏴
I can't tell you how satisfying it is to see almost 6k likes on a video and no dislikes. I frickin love Spartacus and this scene was great when I first watched.
I like how Spartacus is disarmed of one of his practice swords while defeating two Roman soldiers, but he still elects to fight the next three without picking it back up. Then in War of the Damned, he demonstrates he probably didn’t need any weapons at all.
You should watch the other seasons. It takes Liam a few episodes to get comfortable as Spartacus but once he does he really shines. Especially in War of the Damned.

@Lukas this is a Starz series called Spartacus: Blood and Sand Definitely worth the watch. The actor in this scene, Andy Whitfield, died of cancer after this first season so the main character was recast but the whole series is still amazing.

100% agree. But the embarrassment to most Romans by being defeated by a slave with a wooden sword would be the ultimate shame in their insane culture. I didn't understand it. The moment you became a slave they acted like you weren't capable of anything of anything else. It was ridiculous.

A gladiator if clashing with a Roman infantry man would be at a huge advantage. They trained to fight with multiple weapons and to fight alone, a soldier fought with sword and shield with formations and Organizated team work as the goal. A Roman soldier basic training was learned to first dig trenches- then marching and moving in formation then a disciplined thrusting motion with a sword protected by a shield- this would be like attacking a top card ufc fighter or boxer with a half dozen army infantry soldiers, no one would be that surprised if the ufc fighter came out on top.
