I don't get these people. The song is so so sweet too. I doubt I'll enjoy similar type of songs from the most succesful bands out there, but this one I enjoyed since the moment James starts singing, and the girls do their part just great too. Twin Peaks fanbase is very weird, as for me. The humour is there, its own, but it flows and being just one of the many mini-aspects, and yet people see it in the first places. Being in mostly down mood watching the show, I almost feel offended reading something like 'Lynch was just playing with us creating this funny nonsense in a trash genre. Haha, I love it, almost laughed through the whole show'. Ofcourse I exaggerated the quote, but it is very unpleasent reading such comments not from the haters, but from the fans of what you yourself see as a masterpiece.
I think the scene plays into the whole twin peaks as a soap opera/parody of a soap opera. It's not bad but it's a bit schmaltzy or over the top. From what I heard David Lynch saw it as a soap opera and Mark Frost saw it as parodying soap operas.
