Former New Miyako of Hankyu Ferries when she was still in Japan. She was sold to WG&A in 1996 and renamed as M/V SuperFerry 12 of WG&A SuperFerry. After Negros Navigation bought out ATS, she was later renamed as M/V St. Pope John Paul II

i believe this vessel was also used in the film "TATAYNIC" starring Dolphy & Zsa Zsa Padilla.
Exactly with late Babalu also in his last film appearance since he passed away at that same year, 1998. And based on the parody of Paramount and Disney's 20th Century Studios film' Titanic, which was released in the Philippines that same year. Although with its Pinoy comedy slapstick twist because of Babalu and Dolphy starred in this movie.
It was a great experience to me for being a deck cadet in yr. 2019 and i'm proud so for being part of 2go family ❤ thank you 2go company😊❤

Wow i didnt know that the Princess of the Universe was a sister ship of Superferry 12 until this video. Had experienced travelling on both of it during my high school days. Thanks a lot for this info. More power
It was once used as a makeshift quarantine facility during the early months of the COVID19 pandemic in the 1st half of 2020. I salute to you. Even it is already retired and replaced.

Ive been there in that ship, satisfied when i travelled from cebu to cagayan and vice versa... It really growed my curiousity, talents and knowledge about ships which helped me excell in my First year as A BS Naval Aricetectural and Marine Engineering Student of USTP Jasaan Misamis Oriental!!!
I rode this ship in 2018 while we go to Cagayan de oro to see my cousins, It was super fun and so nostalgic, and especially to horizon cafe we always eat in that restaurant every meals.
The accomodation of M/V Saint Pope John Paul II is nice and clean

I've been a passenger last 2015 from CDO to manila, its a memorable experience..very nice and lovely.
I rode this ship 4 or 5 times in my lifetime. when she was still Super Ferry 12. a very reliable ship.
Rode this ship once 2 years ago from Cebu, and we experienced a black out onboard of the coast of Danao Cebu if Im not mistaken,

Just watched a video of the former Superferry 12 (M/V John Paul 2nd), being send to the breakers at bangladesh sad to see her go! But hope the memories those who sailed on her or used crew her will not be forgotten.
Boarded on that ship from 2001-2015... it has a small swimming pool back then and was later on removed..
Rode this ship 4x, during early 2000’s there were once an arcade area with dance pad

Experience ko sa barko na yan is noong last october 14 2019 ang destination namin noon is cdo. ang hinding hindi ko makakalimutan is yung umakyat kami doon sa canteene kinuha ko yung free meal tas pagkatapos naming kumain pinakanta ako hahaha sobrang daming taong nakinig non hahaha
ilang beses ko Ng nasakyan to.. kahit nung superferry 12 plang xa.. worth it nman talaga... From Manila to Cagayan de oro,..vice versa.. salamat 2Go travel...

Im gonna miss this ship😢 so many memories as a passenger. Great experience. I remember when I was young the attendants back then are foreigners 😂 women would stare at those handsome american attendants and men would be amazed at american women 😂😂 ohh damn good old times

I'm very proud of i was one of crew of WG&A for many years started from M/V Our LADY of NAJU, SF-5,SF-14, SF-15 and one of my friend and co crew from SF-5 was promoted to supervisor for SF-12 and every my vaction onboard SF-12 as a passenger Mnl-cebu, cebu-Mnl. Thank you WG&A for my great experienced nad being part of the Company.

I'm the one maintaining the marine electronics on board this ship, year 2000-2004, from arpa radar, gyro compass, inmarsat-c, gps, auto pilot & many more, such a challenging job, no glory so I quit & apply abroad..
I love to travel 2GO vessel but will have a hard time climbing the ship's stairway being a senior citizen.
Is an elevator possible on board.....

I noticed that most ships in 2go was converted from having a bow visor feature. I first noticed this when I was still in grade school while aboard SF 15 or 16 sisters. I first noticed the "city line" embossed logo painted over in white and then this weld line on the bow in the shape of a visor. Doing research and looking for images of the vessel before she was either SF15 or 16, Both vessels did feature bow visors. Even the newly acquired Hankyu Sisters now 2go maligaya and masagana has bow visors.
Looking at the aerial footage, I didn't know SF12/St. Pope John Paul II had a bow visor.... I'm assuming from those two white ridges on the bow that it's part of the hinge mechanism. If not then I'm mistaken. But if yes. Then an interesting discovery. 😁

Yep that's the Superferry 12 where Dolphy, Babalu, Lilia Cuntapay and Zsa Zsa Padilla and the Other cast members of Tataynic (Pinoy comedy parody of Titanic starring Kate Winslet and Leonardo DeCaprio) was originally filmed in 1998, since Babalu had a severe illness at that time, until his death in August, 1998 making his final film appearance.

What the ship have a cargo deck again forget it but the interiors are great
No offense to Japanese Ro/Ro enthusiasts, but European Ro/Ro designs are still the best in the world.
I saw one that docked in Florida, USA (P & O, forgot the exact name). It was built in 2009 as a Ro/Pax vessel and it was really beautiful inside and out.

Ang disadvantage ani nga barko, bati and ordinary ra iyang suite room compared to all other 2GO vessels like St. Francis Xavier etc..

M/V SPJP II is currently the largest that is still alive today. M/V Princess of the Stars already sank in 2008. :D
