    Anish learns from his match against Carlsen that a queen is worth less than 3 pieces so a knight is worth less than 3 pawns

    • @antarath517
      @antarath517 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      To put it simply, each of the 3 pieces can attack the enemy queen, and the queen can't trade with them (obviously)
      Meanwhile, 3 pieces can have the same board control as a queen, if not more

    • @mattsgamingstuff5867
      @mattsgamingstuff5867 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Both are situational things. Generally though 3 pieces will beat a queen. Whether a knight or 3 pawns are stronger depends on the position. There are positions where 1 pawn beat a knight even. Strong players know when the relative value of pieces goes up and down.

    That first game of Vidit vs Nils was really interesting to watch.
    It shows how important prep is - it looked like Vidit knew the line very well, while Nils wasn't as prepared for it, and got sort of bullied as a result.
    I often think super-GMs are cyborgs capable of understanding every idea and seeing things from far out - but I think that game was a nice demonstration that knowing the prep better than your opponent (even against a 2700) is enough to get a winning position full of game-winning tactics.
    I'm more used to seeing two 2700s who are well-prepared, and the game is won or lost by an obvious blunder or through having a better pawn structure in the endgame. ,

    You should do a series where you have to play from a losing position. You can title it "Creating Counter-play" or something. In the low elo games you can just hang a piece for free, and then later maybe a piece for a pawn, then maybe a rook for a knight or bishop. and in the high elo games maybe just get into a bad position but one that still has life in it. You could just make custom games and start the game from the losing position. Anyway I just think it would be pretty informative and it plainly sounds like good content.
    (I've commented this 24 times and I'll continue to do so until either Levy responds, or I see the series. Or maybe I'll give up who knows?)

    4:55 Couldn't it be that Vidit hadn't prepared this move but in the game calculated that this was the best move? Just because Levy thinks it's impossible to find this kind of move it doesn't mean these super GMs can't.

    @GothamChess, Try to go back in time to 1931 in the Bled tournament and go through the game between Pirc and Alekhine. It started as a Queens gambit turns into the Tarrasch defence and eventually turned into the Schara-Hennigs gambit, a very nice game and guess who won?
