Just to say, I bought both these gimbals and have had no contact with DJI or Zhiyun. So there's no hidden reason why I should favour one over the other. Anyway, something I forgot to include - the Mobile 3 requires you activate the gimbal before it will work. You have to sign up to DJI's app. Whereas the Smooth Q2 works without signing up - even though it tries to get you to sign up first. Thanks everyone!
The problem for me with the dji om3 is: in the app i can only record max in 1080@30/720@60 because "my phone is not officially supported" so i used it 20 minutes, and sent it back, because 1080@30 ist just useless and the dji om3 doesn't connect the record button to the native camera app so... Yeah i bought the q2 today, will receive it tomorrow
My two cents: When it comes to mount a lens on the mobile phone you should mount the Q2 on a tripod as you have to do on the OM3 (it can’t stands on itself as the Q2 does) OM3 app way far better than the Q2 app expecially the tracking system As you mention a firmware update “solve” the wide angle lenses issue (front motor on the frame) Q2 payload and motors power are way far better than the OM3 (I mount an iphone xs with ulanzi anamorphic and 52mm ND variable filter and it works fine, and without using any counterwieght as you have to do on the OM3) The replaceable battery is a huge plus. I’ve been thinking about which gimbal to buy for months and in the end i decided for the Q2 and i don’t regret it at all Cheers from Roma, Italy

Really like the device, but the small quirks you mention (portrait, tracking, wide angle shots for example) are the same issues that bug me a little. @@SiHorrocks I haven't updated my firmware since I got the Q2 and that was like 4 months ago. As soon as I took it out of the box and started messing with it I remembered a TH-camr mentioning the tripple press and it goes into this special angle that gets the arm and motor out of the way for ultrawide angle lenses. I did that first time messing with it and it did it for me..
The most common shot I would use these gimbals for is the low-slung push-in or pull-out. The way the OM3 goes into low-slung mode is quirky and a deal breaker for me.

although i bought om3, this video is alittle bias and its fine, we are humans. example, at 5:34 you act like you dont know how to turn to the zhiyun to the side by rather turning the opposite way, and make it sound like a big deal, but at 9:34 osmo has similar issue, and you just brush it off like oh you would get used to that. but nice video regardless.
I have had the OSmo Mobile 3 for some time now and the one thing that really annoys me with it is the software doesn't provide for accessing additional camera lenses. I do a lot of real estate photography and videography and you can't use the wide angle lenses on phones such as the LG V30+ with the DJI software. I also find the gimbal doesn;t stay straight very well when walking, or maybe that is just me.
hi Gary. sometimes gimbals start to lean to the left or right. Especially these cheap ones. The bigger DSLR gimbals with stronger motors are longer lasting. 3rd party software often is unable to access all the cameras of a smartphone, and this depends a lot on if the phone maker allows access to 3rd party apps.

Used the OSMO Mobile 3 for my latest short around London and the battery and grip is amazing. The ninja like walk you need for the smoothest shots though is crazy hard to master. Great video as usual!
Great comparison review, thank you! I bought the Zhiyun Smooth 4 believing it was the top (mostly based on looks, build and materials) but...it has serious trouble balancing with an added Moment lens; it also is impossible to frame a shot using that lens without seeing the motor and, almost more of a pain, it's a very complicated business attaching an external mic which again greatly affects the balance. I find it really difficult to use. The Osmo Mobile 3 might look like a toy but it seems to be a better choice in that it can handle and balance an extra lens and it's easy - there aren't any obstacles - to attach an external mic. I'll be switching to Osmo I think. Thanks again for this review.

The Smooth 4 works best with add-on lenses (e.g. Moment) if you add a counterbalance weight to the arm - you can get these on Amazon - then it's easy. With a counterweight you can also move the phone further out to avoid seeing the motor. Where the Smooth 4 scores over both these smaller gimbals is the extra physical controls (e.g. focus/ zoom wheel), and the ability to easily put the gimbal in "low mode".

I bought the Zhiyun smooth some while ago. I have the Huawei P30 pro. To date, I have never been able to connect this phone through blue tooth. I checked through the phones that this app works with and almost all the huawei models except p30 pro are OK. Now due to medical reasons, the above phone is to cumbersome and heavy as I am now in an electric mobility chair, therefore, I need one hand on the navigation of the chair. I have looked at the Zhiyun Q2 and the DSJ 3 both look as though they can be used one handed . My worry is will I still have the same problem with the Q2 regarding the app? Any advice welcome please

the Smooth Q2 seems to be able to handle the weight of my Moondog Labs anamorphic. But you have to hold it at an angle to keep the gimbal motor out of shot
Yes you can use Filmic Pro with the Smooth Q2 - just tell it you are using a Smooth 4. Then the record button on the gimbal starts/stops record on the Q2. Not as much control as with a Smooth 4, I grant you. The same applies to the Osmo 3 - pair it with Bluetooth and tell Filmic Pro you are using an "Osmo Mobile" and it will connect the record button.
Hi, while I am panning or moving in follow mode / any mode for that matter in smooth q2 (phone is note 10 plus), the auto focus is making camera focused at a point and motors are resisting to move. Making Gimbal stuck despite moving and then a sudden bizarre Jerky motion. Happens while shooting in filmic pro / mcpro in 24fps as well. Any idea how to solve this please!

one thing you did not mention and that it keeps continuing even wit DJI OM 4 there is no way on your expensive phone in the DJI to select different lenses. So it means you have a $1000 phone that comes with the amazing wide angle lens but DJI totally ignores it and you only set to the standard lens ! For me a Deal Breaker and my DJI OM 4 goes back to DJI ! Sometimes those big companies make the most stupid things you would imagine. I love DJI for their drones but not for a Gimbal ! Feels like 2 different companies
At 5:30 why do you twist your arm at a ridiculous angle? You rotate to the left & all's fine. Then you do some strange sort of contortion. Why not just rotate to the right? It works fine.
I own the Q2 and the 4. both are unreliable; sometimes they start unexpected, some times they stop connecting with the iPhone. (latest update) because it is sometimes and fuly unpredictable there's no point in getting it fixed.
Q2 is much more durable and can handle more payload. Q2 can stand without tripot. Portrait mode is way too easy if you did according to the video and do it properly instead of trying to make it look hard and complicated like that, its funny.

when he put the lens on the phone using the Zhiyun gimbal it did that because it wasn't on a minni tripod to support it he did not show the full dji gimbal because he was holding it with his other hand what a cheat

The smooth Q2 has a feature on it if you tap on I think the record button 3x fast it moves the rear motor out of the way.
is that the firmware update? I think it basically places the gimbal at an 45 degree angle

I broke my Zhiun smooth 4 back buttons is almost useless now. I can only use it for just vloging straight forward. Looking to get something else

It looks like you get a full 360 deg. spin on the OSMO3 I can only get a bit more than 180. Am I missing somthing?
I believe that was the Zhiyun Q2 - that's what I used for the barrel roll

i don't like cheap plastic, so the zhiyun is much more quality!
