- It's summer here in Australia so the perfect time to be making a cute baby hat. This is an easy, beginner friendly tutorial about making summer hats for my just-turned-1 year old baby using the two hat method. The two hat method is the easiest way to construct a bucket hat and with the addition of the chin strap, this hat is the perfect summer hat for your baby. I made this using a free pattern that you can access from the link below.

Any ideas of what to sew your older kids now your daughter is 7/8 now I'm assuming?
I do some sewing/fixing when my kids have online classes, because I get a little bit of me time😊

I love making this hat and I always refer to this video, only one issue... the fast forwarding is just a bit too fast and I always have to pause to try and see what you're doing. Could you please upload a slower version? :D

It's hard to know how far to make it so it's still engaging and not boring but also not too rushed and missing details. I'm hoping my more recent videos I've got a better balance. Thanks for the feedback 💕

Would you use interfacing on main and lining sides of brim for older kids as well?
Up to you on how floppy you want it to be really. I would use it on both personally because I hate it when hats flop on my face

Can I ask why you don't use interfacing on the walls and lid? Is there a benefit?
Great question. I did it once before and it was hard to sew the curved seam attaching the brim to the hat top if it was stiff with interfacing. It's certainly possible but it didn't add anything to the look of the hat and was hard work for no reward
Did everyone that wanted the pattern have to put all their personal info in or am I doing it wrong ? I’d like to have the pattern for my granddaughter and our pool but I don’t feel comfortable putting all that info in for something that’s free ? Could someone help me ?

I'm not sure actually but you're the second person to say there were issues with the pattern in 24 hours. I'll try emailing them and see if it's a fixable issue or maybe their site is down. If I find a solution I'll come back and let you know.

Sorry that you're having issues with the pattern. It's not my pattern so I'm not able to help unfortunately. Could you email the pattern company to let them know how issue?

It is just plain white cotton poplin

Cute hat, but pattern isn't right. I printed it out at 100% and when I go to put it together, it doesn't line up. Help!

I try downsizing but didn’t work for me. I will try again following the sizes like they are in the pattern 😅

I wish you would slow down the video to normal speed to show what you are doing. At the end where you’re cutting with the pinking shears, it’s just a blur and not easy to know what you’re doing
This was so fast I really couldn't match the visuals of what you were doing with the explanations most of the time.
Thanks for your feedback. It's always hard to know the right balance between having enough details for it to be helpful but not being so slow that is boring and unwatchable.

@@MyMumMakes I agree with those who prefer a slower-paced video all the way through. My daughter always changes the speed in Settings because she prefers a faster viewing. You could remind viewers who want to hurry things along to change the setting from Normal to a faster speed. The rest of us can take our time and learn at a slower pace. Thanks! Trying this today for my granddaughter.
I've printed your pattern I've made 3 sizes your measurements are out of alignment
The size according to age doesn't add up
Plus when sewing the together they never fit
Thanks for reaching out. It's not my pattern I'm just using a pattern from a different company but I'll try my best to help you with the problem. Otherwise you could reach out to the pattern company. When you say the measurements are out of alignment, do you mean the pattern pieces aren't fitting together? Have you checked the test squares to see that it's printed at the correct size?
I have kind of the same problem. The brim and the hat side didn't fit. So I had to sew the hat side smaller wich made the hat smaller 🤥
I just measured and there is a 1,5cm difference.
i had the same problem. My hat top is smaller tan the side pieces. i've tried everything and reread instructions several times and it still won't work. I checked the squares and it measures the proper size.
